Looking backwards at history doesn't help with the future but lessons need to be learnt. No mention is ever made here about the reasons for the dropping of the bomb. I do agree there was no need to drop a second one. More time should have been given for the full impact of the first bomb to be analysed by the leaders in Japan.

While being the victim of the bombing, the circumstances also had a lot to do with Japan’s military leadership who killed their own people, slaughtered other Asians, and tried (like the west succeeded in) to colonize their neighbors.

The result was the worlds two most powerful nations trying to annihilate Japan at the exact same time.

Does that include the hundreds of thousands of civilians in Nanjing, Manila, those used for biological warfare tests, the victims of poison gas shells including today because Japan never did it duty to remove millions of shells in China?

Yeah we hear a lot about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, but mostly denial and victimhood from Japanese, the number one thing I hear is

"it was the Japanese government and imperial army, we had no choice"

This was drilled into them by the government since the end of the war and they now believe it.

Japan's government at that time tried to cover up the bombing of Hiroshima, Everyday thousands were being killed. It was quite obvious that Japan would not surrender ( and were getting closer to developing their own nuclear fusion) therefore a second bomb had to be dropped. Mission accomplished, the war ended days later.

I do really feel for the true victims of the bombings (the civilian population) but their deaths are just being exploited by the government every year. The G-7 is here so time to show humble superiority by using omotenashj and this VR will help with the annual victimhood thing. No it wasn't. The emperor, the one man who made the decision, mentioned specifically the nuclear weapons in his surrender speech explaining his decision to end the war. He also confided to Grand Chamberlain Fujita in 1946 that the US aerial bombings were his prime consideration when deciding on surrender. The Soviet entry was a consideration, but a secondary one.

OK now some context: That decisions was based on a recommendation of Truman's interim council of scientific, geopolitical and military experts, who believed one would not have been enough to convince Japan that the US had the ability to continue to continue bombings -- and that surrender was Japan's only option. Truman accepted the recommendation with no amendments.

I saw this VR experience. Very outdated, poorly optimized, super corny. I guess for some 60-80 year olds as their first VR experience it might be mind blowing, but to most it'll probably just be seen as another video game, or poorly animated 3d reenactment.
