Blame the media for hyping anti Chinese rhetoric.

back in my backpacking days, I stayed a couple of weeks in Albany. Can’t believe how the world has changed.

One random axe attack by a psycho and "the world has changed"?

NZ is a very safe place.

Glad they apprehended that extremely dangerous psychopathic individual.

Criminals will do what criminals do no matter what tools they use to harm others.

Glad he didn't have access to firearms.

The tool does make a real, observable difference though. Had he walked in there with an AR15 or a Glock 19 the outcome would likely have been a whole lot worse. Like we saw in 2019 in Christchurch.

I'm not trying to downplay the injuries suffered. I hope the victims make full, speedy recoveries.

These reports of violence are rather bizarre to say the least with the images most of us have of NZ, but I would still like to visit there. I've heard NZ is a beautiful country.
