A six-year-old boy ran to his neighbor’s house on Monday morning, saying his parents were lying on the floor at home and wouldn’t wake up, in Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture.
Police said the neighbor called 110 at around 6:30 a.m., Kyodo News reported. Police went to the house and found a 38-year-old man and his 42-year-old wife dead at the scene from knife wounds, in what they believe was a murder-suicide.
The boy’s father was on the floor near the kitchen, and his mother wife was found in her bedroom. A blood-stained knife was near her body.
Police said there were no signs of anyone having broken into the house or that any rooms had been ransacked.
Police said the boy has been taken into protective custody, pending further investigation.

That's a trauma for live.
The boy won't overcome it without professional help.

This is incredibly sad. What on earth were the parents thinking.
Abe234
We don't know, and we might never know. But someone was in a dark place. I will say this, At least they spared the child. The poor kids gonna grow up with way more questions, than answers and maybe non of them will ever be answered which has to be worse that knowing why they did it.

Oh for the love of god….nice final gesture mum n dad. Kids gunna be scarred for life.

I hope someone adopt the boy and give him a proper home. Very sad story.
Fighto!
You are blaming both the parents here?
I hope the poor boy finds a loving family.
Fighto!
I have a feeling some readers do not understand the meaning of murder-suicide.

At least they spared the kid. I hope the state does right by him and gives him the help and support he will need.

The humanity, where has it gone?

Mods: "on signs" to "no signs".

So mom killed dad? At least she didn’t kill the kid. But still…
Lindsay
Gladly the kid wasn’t a victim although, the life for an orphan in Japan is not a walk in the park with virtually no fostering and financially exclusive adoption. This poor kid is gonna spend the next fifteen years getting bounced in and out of orphanages. Hopefully his parents had life insurance so he will be financially secure. Japan is one of the few countries that pays life insurance for suicide.
nosuke
Japan getting suicidal what’s causing it? Food price hikes?

Oh, Dear God! Shocking... Glad they did not take the boy's life.

Like many of the posters here are saying, thank god they only took their own lives and not the little boy's.
I hate it when they take the children to the other world without ever giving them a chance to live.
Alongfortheride
Please Japan start an agency for these poor kids to find genuine loving homes! We were never able to have children and would dearly love to find a child that needs a stable family and a successful future.

That is one hell of a way to say goodbye to that little boy, I hope the boy will find peace and all the help possible so he can have a life. as for the parents!!? well I will not say it .

They the parents did not care for their son.
They did not care for themselves.
They did not.

That's a trauma for live.
Unfortunately this is japan. He will be told to suck it up and go on with his life.
Strangerland
Any precedent to suggest this is true, or are you just hating on Japan in a general non-specific manner?
njca4
Pretty rare case where it's the wife who commits the murder suicide, isn't it?
garypen
And, like many of the posters here, you are having trouble understanding what happened or what the term "murder-suicide" means.
They didn't do anything. One of them, seemingly the mother, murdered the father, then killed herself.
Pokus Hokus
I don’t hate on it
but it is no secret mental illness/ mental health care is still stigmatised in japan. He might not get the help he needs.

kid is pretty young, no reason to assume he's damaged/scarred
YeahRight
Some are suggesting the kid will be sent all around. My guess is that family, grandparents, aunts, or uncles will come to his aid.

Important for any future foster/adoptive parents.

I don’t think a lot of posters understand what protective custody means… social services will keep him temporarily in a children’s home until the next of kin is tracked down and agrees to formally adopt. They will go down the family tree to even the most distant relatives. If no relatives are found or willing, then the child will be formally placed in a children’s home and most likely live until he reaches 18. Adoption is low in japan and adoption of kids over the age of 3 is very uncommon. Sad but true.

People aren't reading the article properly - it says murder-suicide, meaning the father killed the mother, then himself. Not sure why she is getting the blame here.
Yet another example of violence towards women resulting in their death. I absolutely abhor men who are violent to women. They are the lowest of the low - emotionally infantile cowards in the extreme.
Not real men.

What leads you to believe the husband killed his wife? Considering the knife was found next to the woman in her bedroom, it seems to me she may have done this.
At any rate, what a terrible thing for a kid to have to see. My son is also 6 and I can't imagine him walking in and seeing that. Horrific.
Aly Rustom
That is really terrible. Heartbreaking.

My assumption is that she was killed on her bed in her sleep, then he walked out and committed suicide and dies in the kitchen.
Global statistics also tell you that the rate of intimate partner homicides are 6 times higher for women than men.
That's what leads me to believe...
garypen
It seems that you aren't reading it properly. Yes, it says "murder-suicide". But, the physical evidence suggests the mother did it.
"The boy’s father was on the floor near the kitchen, and his mother wife was found in her bedroom. A blood-stained knife was near her body."
The term "murder-suicide" doesn't automatically mean the husband did it.
garypen
And how do you propose he committed suicide after walking out? Did he stab himself with an invisible knife? Maybe he used one made of ice, which melted after he stabbed himself. Maybe he used his sharp wit?
Much, much higher for men. No argument. But, it's not zero for women.
The evidence is what leads me to believe it to be the wife, in this case.
Of course, the evidence in this article is pretty limited. So, there may be more that would point to the husband. But, going by the info herein, it appears to have been the wife.

Sorry, but how is it offensive to consider all suspects? I'm not saying he did do it, I'm saying he shouldn't be ruled out. If that's offensive, then the entire system of justice and law & order is offensive. Come on!
quercetum
They could have made sure the boy didn’t see it so he could be told they died in an accident.
Tamarama
Ooooh, so touchy, Gary. So testy.
How's this one - he kills wife on the bed, then cuts his wrist, neck, whatever and drops the knife in place, staggers out of the room (you don't die immediately Gary, as I'm sure you can appreciate) and collapses in the kitchen as he blacks out from the blood loss?
How's that one? Plausible, right?
opheliajadefeldt
Will we ever know what really happened here? IF the wife did kill her her husband what was her motive, they were definitely just sitting down watching a TV show when it took place? Maybe it was defence against domestic violence.
