But there’s no such thing as Black culture. There’s Black-American culture or black European culture but no pure Black culture. The songs are sung in English and the musical instruments are European. The clothes are western. Africas didn’t create hip hop. Shrugs.

Scott Adams has a good take on this sort of situation. He gave as an example an American southerner who likes the Confederate flag. He said that you can fly the Confederate flag but not in a public space if it offends your neighbors so much. A flag is just a symbol and you don't need to have it in public space if it offends other people to such an extreme extent. If you like the symbol so much then fly it in your home.

Feminism became extreme and now preaches hatred of men. As soon as you hear a feminist talk about confucianism or patriarchy you can be sure that they are preaching hate.

Hopefully Japan can be made a permanent UN Security Council member at the end of this 2 year term.

isn't any murder a hate crime?

Yes. But "Hate crime" also has a specific legal definition when a victim is targeted for being or being affiliated with a certain racial or ethnic group. Is it significant that the suspect targeted a western car and also killed the half-white daughter? Of course i don't know the answer.

Actually the real reason Japanese cultural products have had less success isn't so much due to Japanese looking only inward, although it is a factor, but the main reason is the Plaza Accord, the Japanese economic bubble and subsequent bursting of that bubble and then decades of economic decline and deflation.

Notice 2 Japanese were murdered as well? Abe was assassinated out of "hate", and he isnt Korean,

Good point, hate doesn't have to involve just Koreans.

I guess when you have a foreigner killed in such a horrific manner i think you have to at least pose the question whether it was a hate crime. I don't know because we don't have the facts. Hopefully they will release his internet records. I don't think we should eliminate hate as at least one component of the motivation here though. Hopefully I'm wrong.

It's this a hate crime? And isn't most hate in Japan aimed at Koreans? It's confusing.

As I've written before the free press index of Japan is very low so hard hitting reports on the LDP would not get printed bc the press and media are heavily influenced by the LDP. of course the Abe assassination is too big to put a lid on it.

I'd love to ask a Japanese politician some day why they revere their military so much. The Japanese military has a history of spectacular failure!

Not only did the imperial Japanese army lose WWII but they lost their previous war in Asia, about 4 hundred years earlier, with Korea.

Koreans actuality defeated the Japanese at the very height of samurai power.

Popular culture depicts the samurai as a great fighter but they were defeated by Koreans, thus saving Asia and the world from a brutal Japanese regime. Actually not enough credit is given to how Koreans saved the world from Japan at that time.

The Japanese really need to understand that the reason they became wealthy post WW2 was through trade with the west, particularly the US. cheap Japanese products flooded the west. There’s nothing particularly special about the Japanese or their business culture or general culture. I’d say that about South Korea also.

This happens because no political party controls the media in South Korea.

In Japan, however, the media is controlled by the LDP so their’s no need for free debate.

Of course it’s the Japanese people and Asia in general that ultimately lose in this situation.

This is what happens in Japan when you don’t teach history to your people. Japan was a fascist country. FULL STOP.

It’s not me saying it it’s a fact of history. You can attack “Koreans, zainichi, and gyopos” but it will not change history.

And certainly not teaching it will not change history either.

That reputation will still take a long time to be erased. Japanese should offer humanitarian help especially to neighboring countries NOT take up weapons and go kill more non-Japanese.

And Japan is the only country in the world with an absolute right to freedom of speech - u

In the 2020 world press freedom index Korea was at 42 which was better than the US and Japan was significantly lower at 67.

Also saying you weren't censored in Yahoo Japan is not saying much since it's where many of the extreme right in Japan post.

The AvengerToday  10:55 am JST

Japan did some abhorrent things, but it seems to me that the 1965 agreement settled forced labor and comfort women issues

It did until as long qs the Japanese put up the front of being genuinely reflective of their past.

All that was tossed out when Shinzo Abe started going to yasukuni thereby showing how fake Japanese politician words were.

Of course Abe wanted to foment a new nationalism to change their constitution so he used anti Korean sentiment in order to gain votes and power.

Of course laying claim to dokto island was another tactic to create a provocation and thereby get more votes.

It was Abe that started it and it's pure gaslighting to say the Koreans wanted the relationship to sour.

The LDP is all about creating provocations against Koreans in order to stay in power.

It’s not magical thinking to believe in Japanese war crimes. Japan was a fascist country. They don’t teach history in Japan anymore. That’s what i was referring to when i said there’s little real media freedom in Japan

Posted in: S Korea, Japan should pursue cooperation: Moon See in context

It’s gaslighting to say that it’s the Koreans who are brainwashed.

Japan has had basically no change in government for more than half a century and in terms of media freedom Korea rates much higher than Japan.

If you had to put money down which country would you say allows for more free exchange of ideas? A country that has changes of government and significantly freer media or a country with almost no change in government with a media that is heavily controlled by the ruling party? Stop gaslighting us.

You know Korea is not the brainwashed country.
