In addition to the risk of injury from a fall, there's also the very real possibility of an encounter with a mountain lion which are well-known to inhabit the foothills. Very tragic.

I remember him clearly in Room with a View, not so much the other stuff, perhaps because it was a brilliant, beautifully photographed film with an amazing cast. Very sad news but obviously expected.

..saying he was happiest when “close to a mountain summit on a glorious cold morning".

I hope he felt this happiness in his last hours in this world.

He lives on in film.

I grew up in the surrounding city near Mt. Baldy, it’s is absolutely beautiful up there and we used to go snowboarding or rent a log, just a fantastic place, but I heard he was suffering from heavy uncontrollable depression and if that was the case and he was suicidal there is no telling what was on his mind when he left or what his intentions were. I’m not going to speculate how he died, but the fact is, he didn’t want to be found, he knew what he was doing given the fact he was an expert hiker, and he didn’t want to be found, so we have wait and see once the inspection has concluded as to what the cause of death was, either way, it’s still all so tragic. Depression and mental illness is a serious issue. Great and underrated actor. Just sadly tragic and heartbreaking. Rest in peace.

You should not post that unless you have real evidence. I have heard nothing on the many broadcasts about him.

He died doing something he enjoyed.

It has not yet been determined how he died, authorities said.

It's unlikely they will ever know why.

That's really awful. He will be missed. He was a really great actor and I enjoyed watching his films.

RIP

I Actually do.

I have heard nothing on the many broadcasts about him.

Well, then you didn’t, that has nothing to do with me.

He died doing something he enjoyed.

Add to that, that is true.

I Actually do.

What evidence?

> I Actually do.

Then post a link to an article showing that. I looked and found nothing.

Sometimes people forget just how dangerous the wilderness is.

Well, then you didn’t, that has nothing to do with me.

No follow up on this yet?

Is it a secret?

How do you know he went to commit suicide?

Like you, I also grew up in the San Gabriel Valley, and am also familiar with that area. I would suspect that he knew what he was doing, since apparently, he was an avid hiker in the area. That area and nearby are known for great hikes, and I've been on a few of them, especially the Mt. Wilson Trail. However, we can't jump (no pun intended) to conclusions on how he passed away. The important thing is that he was found. Yes, he was a great underrated actor. Sad indeed.
