Apparently at the end of his leaked opinion draft, Justice Alito cited Sir Matthew Hale, a 17th century jurist. Sir Hale did not believe that there was such a thing as marital rape, but he did believe in witches. Crazy.

Perhaps the lawsuit serves as a distraction for the New York Times story about his campaign knowing that the Dominion voting machine claims were baseless.

Given the historically low levels of interest rates and control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency, one would have thought that the Republicans would have seized the opportunity the fund rebuilding America's future.

They blew it.

For what it's worth, Japan could work with the US rebuilding America's railroad systems. Perhaps Japan offers to finance a percentage of the work in exchange for trade concessions.

One possible reason for the President's vetoing the defense bill is an attachment to the bill: the Corporate Transparency Act, which apparently bans anonymous shell companies.

One possible consequence of the ban is making it more difficult for foreign interests to use these shell companies to hide their contributions to American election campaigns.

Another possible consequence? Making it more difficult for individuals to hide their income and profits from the IRS.

And still the President's veto of this bill was overridden by a Republican Senate. Go figure...

Perhaps one reason for President Trump's veto of the National Defense Appropriation Act (NDAA) is a tack on called the Corporate Transparency Act, which would effectively ban anonymous shell companies and severely weaken their use for illegal purposes.

Support for the Corporate Transparency Act has been building even before Trump became President. Apparently, the American Treasury Department as well as law enforcement agencies, both American and foreign, will have access to the names of the owners as well as financial information of these anonymous (for now) shell companies.

The House has voted to override the President's veto. Will Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell allow a vote to override? Hmmm...

I have to wonder how many of his voters are in danger of losing their unemployment benefits and, perhaps, of being evicted. And, if they live through this, will Trump's supporters remember his actions in 2024?

The President's staff could have made it clear to Senate and House Republicans that he wanted $2000 / $4000 going to individuals / families. Why didn't he do that when it would have a difference in negotiations. As it is, it looks like the Democrats in the House and the Senate have the President's ear! (Note: "Looks like" means "appears to be" not "is".)

Perhaps, not a helpful tactic during the the two Georgia Senate Republican campaigns.

Why do you suppose President Trump did not bring up giving $2000 per individual and $4000 per family when it could have made a difference during the campaign? Nor did he bring this up when the House and Senate were negotiating.

And, as I write, President Trump has vetoed the National Defense Authorization Act. Perhaps because Twitter and Facebook, etc. made him look bad?

The American Constitution is silent about how many Justices should be on the Supreme Court.

The New York Times is reporting that the Trump Organization not only has had many business dealings with China but also has a bank account at a Chinese bank. Perhaps William Barr could also investigate this October surprise.

Interesting comment by Allan Lichtman:
