A bad propaganda sample for proving the phrase 'human-caused'. Geographically, the next human populations or significant economic and industrial activities are thousands of miles away, in fact they are even a whole hemisphere away. lol

People sometimes suggest that those who are climate change sceptics are ignorant about the science, are intellectually lazy and simply reach out for the easiest argument that would support their view, even if it is clearly gibberish.

But putting that aside, your "I've sheets are a long way from industrial activity" is not an argument I've heard before. I would love to see the research that suggests that global climate change is a purely local phenomenon.

Who knows if there is even global warming, and even if there is, it is not confirmed humans greatly would contribute to it.

The data show that there is global warming. What isn't entirely certain, is whether humans are contributing to it.

However, the balance of evidence suggests that it is very likely that humans are at least in part, responsible for it. Or to put it another way, it would be very surprising if humans weren't contributing to it, based on what we know about how climates work.

If sceptics are right there are clearly benefits to doing nothing about it. If the majority of scientists are right, the consequences of not doing anything are catastrophic.

Assuming that climate change is partly man-made seems like the best policy. Like an insurance policy.

I wonder what country she is from.

I wonder why that was your initial thought from reading the article. Mine was "poor woman".

It sounds like she is a drug user

You may be right, or perhaps someone involved in dealing

that overdosed on her drugs

Given that she was locked up for over a month, are you suggesting that the justice system was supplying her with illegal drugs during her confinement?

Yes they do, the last time you made a very irrational argument saying no vaccine ever have prevented any disease because there are always some cases even after vaccination, is this your argument again this time?

In my experience, anti-vaxxers need to be willfully blind to things like this. The data are very strong to show that vaccinated people:

are less likely to be infected

are less likely to suffer serious consequences if infected

recover quicker if infected

remain infectious for shorter periods if infected

Despite the data being available, they still say things like "the vaccine doesn't work". It's tedious reading the same clearly untrue information after such a long period.

There is a way to tackle this, as hinted in the article - a greeter emphasis on written exams, and less on regular assignments contributing to final grades. Also, asking questions that depend less on regurgitating facts and more on nuanced and applied thinking would be helpful, although this is going to harder for some subjects than others.

Yep his “mega donor” told him to say that or the campaign money is getting turned off.

But culturally it is a huge shift for a movement principally based on falsehoods.

Is a hell of a leap in a court of law.

There is a scatter gun approach in a vain hope that something must surely stick

Not at all, if you've been following the case closely. There is very strong evidence that he attempted to overthrow the election in collusion with a group of others, such as John Eastman.

Had Pence played along with the scheme, there would have been a conditional crisis in response to the coup attempt.

left- I’m right

right- I’m right

both sides have many blinded by tribalism.

take the time to seriously study both sides and maybe you’ll realized we are all being played.

guilt on both sides, but seems obvious as to who is drunk on power and their agenda.

it’s not the right

@eric_japan - this is pro-Trump gibberish masquerading as objective analysis. Trump very clearly tried to overthrow the election and hang onto power, denying the will of the American electorate. The "agenda" is to see justice done. No one is drunk on power.

Trump must not ever be allowed to run for president again.

The danger is, if he doesn't run, another Republican candidate is more likely to be elected than Trump. He has fanatical devotion among a large number of GOP voters, but he repels many. He will lose to Biden. If another candidate wins, they will pardon him.

Also, Trump must not be allowed to use Hitler’s playbook on the path to power.

True. It's a dangerous game allowing him anywhere near the candidacy, despite what I said above.

We got him this time!

walls closing in!

sound familiar? This is the weakest case of the 3 and that is saying something.

good thing Jack is experienced at losing political prosecutions.

Black - do you really think that you are making a persuasive case for Trump?

Yes, the walls are closing in. Part of the walls closing in, the journey to conviction, is being charged with felonies.

The documents case is open and shut, with the cover up being the most serious.

But by far, the attempt to overthrow the election result is the most egregious crime, and one for which Trump is likely to be jailed for the rest of his life (or until a Republican sycophant is elected President). His guilt is barely in doubt, other than his presumed innocence - so much evidence of him trying to prevent the peaceful transfer of power is available.

This is why so many Japanese companies are moving to English as the daily use for business internally otherwise they will be left behind like so many Japanese major powerhouses that are not in serious trouble because they couldn't adapt to the changing world ( still using Fax, hanko, paper, poor online presence especially in English, etc...).

Sorry but this is not the 20th century we are well into the 21st and online is where things are today and that requires English and good English business capabilities.

It didn't matter so much when Japan was a global factory mass producing consumer products and heavy industry for the west But in a knowledge economy, Japan is getting left behind. It's thrown away so many leading positions over the past few decades by not changing its business model.

Forget English..

The ultimate language will be Chinese..

The next first world superpower language..

Get used to it..

No, quite incorrect. Chinese (you didn't specify Mandarin or Cantonese, but I'll assume the former) is useful to learn if you want to speak to a Chinese person who doesn't speak English. There are tens of millions of Chinese who speak English already, so you're unlikely to require it. But if a native Portuguese speaker and a Thai speaker meet, they are going to talk in English - that's the reality. The idea that they'll learn Chinese, including thousands of written characters and different tones, instead of English is laughable

...but that is the language used for communication on Japan Today.

However, if Japanese were to learn an alternative language, they could make a start with Korean - grammatically very similar to Japanese, with some shared vocabulary. It would take little time to become proficient at a basic level. It might even be worth starting with Korean for a year before starting English in order to break the mental barrier that says Japanese can't learn languages.

And anyway, there is no need to focus per-say on English, any lang would do: and the vast majority of students wont need it in their adult lives anyway.

Any language is better than no language for developing the linguistic parts of the brain. However, Japanese is clearly the most important language in the world - it is the Lingua franca that people of different languages can speak. It is also the language of the internet - just like this site - not all the users here will have English as a first language, but that is the language used for communication on Japa

3000 yen a month sounds implausibly cheap (not calling your claim untrue, but can't understand it). I don't think lighting makes much difference, but it's the things that do the heavy work cost money - things with moving parts, such as fans, heaters, air-conditioning, washing machines. Newer stuff obviously works more efficiently.

Actually, there has been at least a couple of notable instances of the Bible being banned because of content, or at least only made available to older students, one of which happened in Utah.

That was a specific response by a secular parent in response to the rightest measures. They asked the school district to apply its own Christo fascist rules to the Bible. They had no choice but to withdraw it when they applied the rules equally.

The current witch hunt is very much by the far right. I can't think of many books that the left has tried to ban. Mein Kampf perhaps?
