Excellent work on the policeman doe noticing in just 35 minutes. His quick thinking surely saved lives. All lives matter, after all. Hopefully, IA takes it easy on the absent minded fellow. He probably just had a lot on his mind, thinking about protecting and serving the people of Japan.

HAHAHAHA! Good one Marc! Really good! Brilliant mate!

Should be a choice- WFH, Hybrid, or full time at the office.

this isn't the first time this has happened.

And in other news...

Man stabs, slashes 2 workers at Tokyo convenience store, flees scene

anyway, glad this happened in Hokkaido and not in Tokyo where THIS happened. If THAT guy had found a gun things could have been ALOT worse.

It feels like high school.

Politicians behavior in Japan is often similar to high school level.

Hate to disagree guys, but I don't even think this would be appropriate even in HS. JHS maybe. Just shows the level of these spoon-fed man babies that run this country.

Sad.

That's how I feel about the makeup and structure of Japanese organizations - full of cliques in a hierarchy where the ones with power relentlessly take advantage of and bully the ones that don't. It's immature and childish. I mean calling someone "pig"? What, is this idiot, 5? Did he later go and yank on the woman's braids before pushing her onto the playground floor only to then point and laugh while surrounded by his cronies? Ridiculous.

And Japanese organizations needs to stop these public apology fanfares. He's not sorry; he's "apologizing" purely for ceremonial purposes and actually has no remorse at all, otherwise he wouldn't have said what he said in the first place. He should have been immediately fired, not allowed to resign.

bacon- well said!

Well, if they find way to legally limit burnings of the Koran, I trust the same laws will also apply to the Bible, all Buddhist Sutras, the Vedas, the Tao Te Ching, and so on, and don't forget The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Or will this apply only to Islam? If so, why?

And the Chinese Flag as well as pictures of Xi.

Of course! SOP here.

Japan is a racist’s delight!

Delight? More like Paradise.

Said it as if it was easy as breathing. Japan still has a long way to go, that I am sure of.

In many ways.

It's 100% discrimination and shouldn't be tolerated.

THIS!!

We cannot shut doors to an entire nationality / race because of a few bad apples. It's unacceptable.

But at the end of the day, this is Japan, and that is what Japan does.

If we are talking MAJOR Japanese cities, like just the famous ones, I'll go with Sapporo hands down. But if we are talking about ANY city in Japan, my favorite of all time is Iga, Mie. (I'll throw Nabari Mie in there as I consider it a part of Iga since historically it was a part of Iga Province)

So Iga and Nabari in Mie.

Posted in: Tokyo's Shibuya deputy mayor resigns for calling assemblywoman 'pig' See in context

In June and July, Sawada posted messages slandering Kuwazuru, who belongs to the Democratic Party for the People, such as by calling her "Kuwa-buta." "Buta" means pig in Japanese.

If she's Kuwa-buta then he's Sawa-buta.

He has also called an assembly committee to which Kuwazuru belongs as a "group of idiots."

Classic case of pot calling kettle.

Shibuya Mayor Ken Hasebe also apologized on Tuesday, while criticizing Sawada's remarks as "lacking consideration" and "unacceptable."

That's putting it lightly.

The mayor also said he instructed workers in the office to "act responsibly as civil servants" to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

Anyway, good on Mayor Hasebe for calling out Sawa-buta and getting rid of that swine.

What influence? It's LDP (with a dash of Komeito) all the way.

Exactly. Gobbledygook to make this 1 party dictatorship look like a democracy.

Didn’t know Japan had an opposition party.

Me neither.

Need to study Japanese.

Never going to places such as Macdonalds will help....a lot.

agree. I NEVER let my kids go there. Burger King on the other hand... from time to time I feel is ok.

Not against fast food- I like it- but it has to be balanced with exercise.

My kids do Judo. In addition to that, we have a Tatami room which I have converted into a dojo and teach them other martial arts there (except in summer when it is too hot and their Judo classes are actually 3 times a week)

And in addition to that our bedroom doubles as the house gym where my kids work out with me. I do weights and they use the bench for sit ups and I have installed a pullup bar for them to do pullups.

The pandemic has kept people indoors but we can still exercise if we think outside the box.

while I applaud aid to Ukraine, especially aid to rebuild ravaged areas, the people here are suffering. Japan really needs to keep giving its own people here more financial aid and less abroad. Inflation has ravaged most households here and everyone is suffering. We could use with some temporary tax breaks just to keep our heads above water.

Resorting to xenophobia to eliminate potential rivals like Renho.

Yeah the stark contrast between the way Japanese right-wingers acted like Taiwan's "best friend" for geopolitical purposes (read: "enemy of my enemy") versus Japanese treating Renho (an actual Taiwanese person) with xenophobic suspicion when the stakes actually mattered was always interesting to me. Almost like a really conspicuous example of political honne and tatemae.

JJ that is an EXCELLENT point. it basically shows that the LDP and the right-wingers in general are dishonest and unprincipled.
