There is no mention in the article of Canada or the USA

I didn't think I would have to explain but I guess that assumption was wrong.

It is called an example of how a compromise is made when a problem between laws in one place clash with laws in another place requesting the extradition.

The UK can request like Canada does that Japan give certain written guarantees on the treatment of the wanted person.

I hope this helps you understand!

It is quite straightforward.

> UK is bound to ECHR, it articles/protocols.

> European Convention on Human Rights

> Please read, Article 6 The right to a fair trial is incorporated into Abolition of the death penalty

> The death penalty shall be abolished. No one shall be condemned to such penalty or executed.

> UK court are bound to the Policing and crime bill, including extradition.

Total irrelevant in this case as the death penalty isn't even an issue.

This is a red herring!

Canada extradites to the USA regularly including murder cases where the death penalty is a possibility after getting a formal written agreement that in the case of the suspect the death penalty cannot be applied.

Why even mention the death penalty in a theft case?

citing concerns over the country's human rights record.

Is this the same UK that just arrested an Autistic 16 year old girl in her home, for saying the female police officer

“looked like her lesbian nana”

After being informed she was autistic and her Nana was actually a lesbian.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said a 16-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of a homophobic public order offence

So in the UK you can get arrested for just words not even a threat but will protect a thief from standing trial!

More recently, a gold 1,000-yen coin was minted in honor of the Rugby World Cup coming to Japan and sold for 120,000 yen each, in keeping with the price of gold at the time. However, immediately after the tournament in which Japan historically advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time ever, the coin’s price more than doubled, showing that the significance of the event can also be a major factor.

And has since dropped back down to the gold value again.

So everyone that bought one right after the event at double the price has lost around ¥50,000 or more!

My children were given a commemorative 1972 Sapporo Olympic coin each form their grandparents!

They were supposedly "gold" turns out yes only 10% gold.

These coins cost ¥70,000 each in 1972 (the original receipt is still with the coins) but at best today you would be lucky to get ¥10,000 for both ( basically the gold value of the coins!).

This expo coin is a money looser.

It is interesting, ethnic Russians don't feel safe and demand independence, the west response is no, but Albanians (that were originally refugees from the Ottoman Empire) demand part of Serbia, no problem!

Seems only with what the EU and USA like are separations Ok.

I mean Catalina didn't do so well,

I mean it is a bit ironic Georgia was spared the suffering of the Soviet 1930s Ukraine goes on and on about it, but the reason Georgia was spared is because the 2 biggest maniac running things Stalin and Beria where not Russia but Georgian and specifically protected Georgia.

But again western news makes the "Russians" bad everyone else good.

Not sure what or where this guy is taking about.

Perhaps in some countryside areas but even then no unless the house is a totally run down piece of junk.

In Tokyo, or any major area even Saitama in places like wako, Kawaguchi, or Kanazawa etc..

A piece of land with a 10 or 15 year old house is still more valuable than just the land.

If Koo was right then I could knock my place down and get more if I sell it, and judging by the land prices near my home and what I have already been offered for my house which is older than 15 years and not for sale but we are frequently offered more than we paid (note it is in Tokyo 23 and a double kitchen set up).

Recent sales 18 year old house, land 68 m2, house 92m2 sold ¥47 million.

Empty lot 71m2 sold ¥35 million.

Funny how the article avoids all mention where the EU and especially France gets fuel more precisely uranium if they don't used Russia.

And the prize goes to "western exploitation of Africa".

This article doesn't come out now because of Ukraine as the author tried so desperately to do.

It is now in the news because of the mess in Africa that started with NATO in Libya and now spread to the rest and most recently Niger that supplies France with 15% of its "cheap" uranium.

And as that article shows if Russia is cut out France has a shot at partially replacing it but not without Niger uranium.

Now they have the "security" reason to attack Niger!

Well I wouldn't say booming but this year Vietnam is looking a at least 4% next year 6% growth as Japan is at 1.3% growth so Vietnam may not be "booming" it is however doing better than Japan on growing it economy.

> That's like saying a small business that increased it's sales 10% last year is doing better than Pepsi.

Business 101 if the large company doesn't increase or goes stagnant or negative and the small business keeps growing soon the big guy is bankrupt or overtaken by the small guy.

Look at how many major Japanese corporations are now on the ropes like Toshiba or gone like Sanyo.

Today it is grow or fail.

Vietnamese and Japanese are the same race.

Not even close!

Vietnam is Haplogroups B and M

Japan's Haplogroups are C, D and O.

Just because they may look similar they are basically from different genetic backgrounds.

So the Race is a factor and it is Racism.

I posted this:

If the people, the leaders were against discrimination, then they would change the laws to include discrimination against everyone not just citizens.

Seems people here don't like facts or reality.

Here is a great example of how the people and government are!

Naturalized Zainichi Korean-Japanese sues “Japanese Members Only” Aigi Country Club; court rules denial of golf membership explicitly for being a former foreigner NOT illegal

Posted on April 21, 2023 by Debito Arudou, Ph.D.

In a stunning decision, a Japanese court in Mie Prefecture has ruled that a foreigner… excuse me, a JAPANESE CITIZEN who naturalized from being a Zainichi Korean, may be denied membership to a golf course that limits its membership to “Japanese Only”. Including people who are legally Japanese. Including former Zainichi Korean Permanent Residents who have been in Japan for generations.......

Now this is just one case but this one sticks out because normally discrimination laws in Japan cover all citizens, but seems the courts in Japan view naturalized citizens as not having the same rights.

Non citizens even less.

But it seems clear many here don't like that fact.

Why do western countries have laws against discrimination based on race, ethnicity, disabilities that apply to all not just citizens or a chosen few?

Because the people demanded change, the politicians weren't going to do anything on their own.

The population of those countries go up and made it clear discrimination was intolerable and the government reacted and made laws protecting minorities.

So the inaction of the Japanese government, the rulings of the Japanese courts is basically a reflection of the population that says nothing and tolerates this type of behaviour by stores, hotels, restaurant, golf clubs, sento, onsen, etc....

you can't blanket blame all people from a country just because of where they were born for the crimes of their fellow countrymen. The same applies to some people blanket calling Japanese racist and xenophobic because of the actions of this store no matter how many Japanese think similarly. And I personally think most don't

Actually you can in the case of Japan by the simple fact that in Japan this is legal as long as the person isn't a citizen.

The simple fact that the government legally accepts this behaviour, says it all.

If the people, the leaders were against discrimination, then they would change the laws to include discrimination against everyone not just citizens.

Posted in: Canada media seek probe of Meta's news block See in context

It is hilarious!

News corporations in Canada are complaining they are getting between 50% and 80% less traffic since the Meta move!

This basically confirmed what Meta was saying that these services were getting 1.9 million free referrals a value of $230 million at no charge ( that is Meta only).

So this is mainly CBC Canada's government propaganda service behind this.

Here is the craziest part of the bill.

CBC like all businesses gets to create a free of charge FB page and post snippets of their articles, under the bill if you click on the "see full article" it brings you to CBC News site, under the C-18 Meta would have to pay CBC for that click!

Yes so not only would CBC be getting a free FB page that sends traffic to their site they would get paid for it twice once by Meta and by the advertising on their own site when people go to it from CBC's own FB page!

The argument the " broadcasters" are making is like this.

If you have a YouTube channel or a business and are using Beatles songs, the rights owner says to you " you are using our music you need to pay us for the use" so you say " Ok I will not longer use your music".

Using the CBC and other broadcasters logic, the music rights owner would say:

" wait that's not fair, you must keep using our music and pay us"

This is essentially what CBC and the other legacy media are saying!

What they wanted or thought they would get was the free FB pages the 1.9 million free referrals and on top get more money directly from Meta.

Meta and the rest have every right to just cut them off,

It is interesting how the up and down go!

You post it is discrimination and get more up votes than down,

But the instant the post also includes the fact this is japan and this type of discrimination is fully acceptable, not rare and either no law exists or is tolerated by the authorities.

Suddenly the comment gets more down votes because many here refuse to accept reality.

Several years ago a black American was refused service in a eyeglasses shop, refused service is putting it lightly, he was told directly "no blacks" he took the store to court and the Japanese courts said simply the anti discrimination laws apply only to citizens and not foreigners. Didn't matter if you are PR, Long term residency, etc...

So sorry folks when the court basically says discrimination is Ok as long as you are not a Japanese citizen, then the country's policies are racist/discriminatory.

Now you can down vote this fact.

Lost of Vietnamese young people causing trouble in Osaka lately. Plenty of crimes associated with them, hopefully the Yakuza will crack down on them, the police are hopeless

Using this logic, then a ban on young Japanese, should be in order also, it wasn't foreigners that did the sushi shop licking, etc..and around Takenozuka in Tokyo it isn't foreign youth causing problems at night making going out late night an unpleasant (I am being nice using unpleasant) , the motorbikes/schooter groups driving around at 2:00 3:00 in the morning blocking roads, convenience stores entrances harrassing passerbys and others trying to go to the stores.

Yes we can all see problems with an identifiable group and say stuff like you just did.

The Azov, the Ukrainian government, are today still flying the UPA flag,

But you refuse to even address that issue.

Could it possibly be because it makes the reasons the ethnic Russians in Ukraine break away in 2014 more understandable.

Since 2014 not a hundred years ago, the present Ukrainian government has been passing laws against ethnic Russians, including their religious institutions and the Russians in Luhansk and Donetsk saw this coming.

I think saying Russia isn't a democracy is criticizing Russia also

Saying they are two fools killing eachother over a road to nowhere is not just criticizing Ukraine but also Russia you do understand the number two (2) includeds Russia, right?

Again your refusal to even read or look at facts makes you claim it accuse others of things.

Democracy bad, Russian Imperialism good.

What!

Is there democracy in Ukraine?

Let's see, opposition parties baned, any public demonstration or opposition to the war illegal, Elections suspended, all non government press closed down, press gangs forcing men even those exempt from military duty into the military.

Democracy was the USA and UK during Vietnam and the Falklands war where those opposing were permitted to speak, the press showed the facts and not just propaganda, where speaking out against the war was not treated with treason charges.

There is no democracy in Ukraine or Russia

lol Little logic is required to make things up to be outraged about.

Make the Russian economy scream to 11 and Putin will cry "uncle". End of.

We keep hearing these but funny thing is by all measures everything is still working in Russia, the economy hasn't collapsed it isn't down any more than all the other western countries, the arms production is faster than all western countries put together, Putin isn't dead from Parkinson's, cancer, overthrown, etc...

Ukraine hasn't been able to move and lost more territory than it gained in its " offensive" as Russia takes territory in the North, Ukraine hasn't been able to reach the first line of defense, take Bakhmut as Russia has now built a 6th line in Zaporizhzhia, and now USA satellite are showing 3 new deep lines of defense around Bakhmut.

But let's not look at reality and continue with this Fantasy of Ukraine taking everything back including Crimea because a few drone boats are going to win the war, right?

Last month on here they made a big deal about Ukraine taking territory held since 2014, the reality was it went less than 100 metre into a no-mans land between the lines made a video and declared this, this week Russia not only took that but to 2 trenches beyond that great Ukrainian victory.

Two fools on an insignificant road in the middle of nowhere killing eachother for pure propaganda reasons as this road is nowhere near any of the front line battles or of any strategic importance.

It makes me think of the Korean war at a stalemate fighting over a few hills for years no movement only to end up drawing the line on the stalemate spot only difference was at least the 2 sides in Korea held talks, here the west refuses to even talk.

Posted in: Ending affirmative action does nothing to end discrimination against Asian Americans See in context

This sounds so familiar!

Someone trying to basically say the Asian students and groups that brought the lawsuit are stupid or manipulated by some much smarter white person.

The writer ignored the fact Asian students on average study 4 time more, had higher scores and had to get even higher to get in and we're penalized because they studied instead of participating in outside social activities.

It is as silly as Trudeau's claim Muslim Canadians in their protests are being tricked by American right wing, the truckers were financed by American MAGA, etc...

But it doesn't surprise me he says all he does and thinks the way he does. He is from California and one thing this Atheist socialist (me) has learned,

The most intolerant, closed minded, "do it my way " type are not religious concervatives, not general conservatives, etc..but the so-called progressives that wouldn't even listen to anything they disagree with, will not even have a friend that doesn't think exactly like them.

Despite being an atheist I have plenty of so-called conservative friends but few progressives because they just will not accept facts they don't like and cannot deal with contrary thinking.

This author has pull out every progressive trope possible he ends with this.

I believe that Americans deserve to have that conversation without being misled into thinking that keeping affirmative action is the same thing as tolerating anti-Asian discrimination.

But we know he doesn't really want this because right from the first few paragraphs he pulls out the strawman Ed Blum as some sort of mastermind behind it all and poor Asians were tricked into following.

The Asian community is often less vocal and they are now realizing that unless they push like all the rest they will get more discrimination.

Look at Canada, Asians make up a far greater percentage that blacks by 5+ times but we hear far more from the later and have far more action on black issues that Asian because the black community out protest out yell, etc..

Now Asians are starting to assert themselves this guy thinks it must be some white group manipulation.
