Wow, I nearly missed this. Did it really 'start three years ago', or did they spot it three years ago, and if it's eight billion light years away did the explosion itself happen million of years ago, I wonder?

The explosion happened 8 billion years ago.

It happened eight billion light years ago, according to the (probably flawed) knowledge we have.

a fireball 100 times the size of our solar system

the explosion was roughly eight billion light years away.

It is estimated to be around two trillion times brighter than the Sun,

single cloud of gas -- around 5,000 times larger than the Sun

All quite Impossible to comprehend / visualise.

Oooh, isn’t it interesting. We’ve learned sooo much about the universe lately, yet there’s still so much more to learn. What we will discover next, isn’t it interesting.

8 Billion light years away is 8 Billion years ago as light takes a year to travel a light year!

The cause is still open to investigation but the apparent lack of any sign of a galaxy in that location makes the proposed solution less probable, so all the more intriguing and interesting!

A Light Year is a measurement of distance. Not time.

There are two main theories about the origin of the Universe, Big Band and Steady State. Perhaps by chance, and this may or may not be - the former, finally caught by professional astronomers. Or maybe a 'leftover' residue from it all.
