Ukraine is doomed…

-13 ( +10 / -23 )

Russia (under the dictatorship of PUTAin) again doing what they're best at:

destroying not just civilian infrastructure, also destroying supplies as well as supply routes for those who rely on grain from Ukraine! What about those (not only) African states with their starving population? Still supporting that terrorist state? Why? To get more weapons, to see more Wagner troops? C'mon, you can do better!

Ukraine prevails!

In January, UNESCO added Odesa’s historic center to its list of endangered World Heritage Sites, with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay saying the “legendary port that has left its mark in cinema, literature and the arts.”

Check your history books, those are sites of Russian cultural as Odessa and Crimea have been part of Russia for centuries.

It was only in 1954, that Khrushchev, a Ukrainian leader of the USSR, transferred that area from Russia to the Ukraine.

This was done without the consent of the local Russian speaking citizens.

Don't worry, the Russians won't hit the cultural sites, they are pounding the naval infrastructure, ie ports, fuel depots, weapons depots etc.

Why isn't Ukrainian grain being shipped out by rail through the EU?

Oh, the EU passed laws making it illegal to do so.

Cruelty beyond words. You go to sleep only to be woken up to the sound of falling bombs and drones and meet morning full of cries and sadness

when will this cruel person be stopped?

This was done without the consent of the local Russian speaking citizens.

They welcomed it.

But if you really want to check your history books you would realise that Russia stole Crimea in the first place.

10 ( +21 / -11 )

when will this cruel person be stopped?

when Ukraine decides to surrender a war they will not win. Or when NATO stops giving them ammunition

-15 ( +8 / -23 )

But if you really want to check your history books you would realise that Russia stole Crimea in the first place.

The Greeks were there before Russia or the USSR ever were. This is a silly argument.

12 ( +18 / -6 )

Nosuke - Ukraine won’t surrender and her allies will not stop supporting her. Ukraine will fight against the invaders just as you and I would do if our own countries were invaded and our families threatened.

13 ( +20 / -7 )

They busted a bunch of crooked Ukrainain soldiers for their of benefit, look they are not winning the war on corruption

-19 ( +5 / -24 )

The Greeks were there before Russia or the USSR ever were. This is a silly argument.

So if the land has been under control of various powers, the Greeks, the Tartars, the Russians, the USSR, the Ukraine and now the Russians again.

Why is the Ukrainian claim to the land more legitimate than other any countries?

Russian soldiers died for that land, and now they control it.

The people that live there speak Russian, not Greek, Ukrainian or Turkish.

-14 ( +9 / -23 )

Thuban - Crimea is internationally recognized as Ukrainian territory and has been since Ukraine’s independence. Just because Russia currently occupies it doesn’t mean it is theirs.

That's where we turn to the UN Charter:

Art. 2 (1) UN Charter for the principle of sovereign equality, for the detailed rights that follow from that principle of sovereign equality. The UN Charter also protects sovereign States’ domaine réservé and prohibits other States’ intervention on sovereign States’ territory (Arts 2 (4) and (7) UN Charter).

Clearly Crimea is sovereign territory of Ukraine.

10 ( +17 / -7 )

Clearly Crimea is sovereign territory of Ukraine.

Clearly the brave defenders of that land that are successfully standing united and proud against invading German Leopard tanks disagree.

-15 ( +4 / -19 )

Thuban - I hope you aren’t advocating for a might makes right type world where only the biggest and strongest nations decide where the borders are and which countries can exist.

When the starving masses of Africa begin looking to Europe for refuge then there will be a massive refugee crisis.

Unfortunately, Russia controls the narrative and the Ukrainians will be forced into a war of attrition plus the EU will soon be putting pressure on them to capitulate.

Ukraine doesn’t have long range missiles nor fighter jets but Russia does

No NATO membership for Ukraine either

The outcome is obvious …

The people that live there speak Russian, not Greek, Ukrainian or Turkish.

Most bizarre argument I've heard. Just because a group of people speak Russian makes the territory they live in Russian? By that "argument" places like the US and Canada would be the territory of the UK simply because they use the same language.

Ukraine is sovereign and proudly independent. Period. Not negotiable.

Fascist Russia should cease their land-grabbing war. They will end up in another Afghanistan and their goons will keep finishing up in countless more body bags.

Get out of sovereign Ukraine, trash!

You don't have an argument. You have an opinion.

One thing I already mentioned and it was confirmed on Russian TV last night (a variety show devoted to the SMO) by former General Evgeny Buzhinsky last night.

The current strikes on Odessa area are planned work - contingency already in the pipeline for the:

A) likely collapse of the grain deal

B) reality that Odessa presents the biggest danger to Crimea, not the failed counter offensive.

The bad news for Kyiv is the retaliation attacks that Putin promised have not started.

The RMOD is squaring up target packages as you read this and putting the final touches to the retribution phase, which rest assured, will make this look like a cakewalk.

Relatives of the victims held a vigil yesterday and Putin sent his regards. And now a new victim. The young girl whose parents were killed has been transferred to a Moscow hospital.

Heads are going to roll. Put your seatbelts on.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

JJE - Russia was going to eventually fire whatever armaments they are going to use anyway. Nobody is afraid of Russia as they have proven themselves over this last year and a half to be quite an over-rated paper tiger. A Gummy Bear, if you will.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

JJE

The bad news for Kyiv is the retaliation attacks that Putin promised have not started.

Putin is impotent, he can't do anything for retribution. Russia have been attacking civilians with missiles and drones for over a year and it isn't working. Putin has nothing left for retribution.

This article is a day behind effectively.

Update - Air raid alerts going off all over the country now. Foxhounds with daggers, bears, blackjack and backfires airborne.

always when we read lines about so called "grain deal" we read about UA conditions but you never mention russian conditions too/like fertilizer export etc/.same story like about Minsk agreements.always care about UA side but NEVER care abt russian one.

things to know.

port of Odessa is important place used by UA and NATO military for delivery of weapons.

grain etc stored there is also used to feed UA military.

port of Odessa is military target.

sorry to hear that civilians were there when russian rockets came.bad timing.

we heard same thing about Crimean bridge as was/possibly/used by russian military so it was military target, also there were civilians killed/bad timing bad luck/but since there were not primarily target so attack was not a terrorist one but fully legal.

russians just did same thing so you should keep same line and narratives.we are same position.equal one.

action reaction.

you got what you have asked for.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Ukraine needs to end this.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Calculating "to the victor the spoils" Putin is very careful not to target the heritage sites and jewels of the Ukrainian past in Kyiv and Odesa, but the outcome of this war of attrition is for the future and, as history teaches, both sides win and lose in a war (on the corpses of the dead and the bodies of the maimed).

3 ( +5 / -2 )

The bad news for Kyiv is the retaliation attacks that Putin promised have not started.

Um, Putin started the war. If he had this supposed power you state, he would have taken Kyiv in 72 hours as they thought they would.

Biggest screwup of 2022, and potentially biggest screwup in Russian history.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Anyway just passed by to hopefully get an idea of how the war is going.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Eastman - pretty sure Ukraine knew that Russia would have ‘retribution’ strikes, but like I said earlier, Russia is going to shoot its missiles and drones at Ukraine anyway. The Kerch bridge will be attacked again. You can count on that. And, unfortunately, we can also count on Russia taking ‘revenge’ again. It’s war.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

It's unfortunate, but all the more reason to take out the crimean bridge.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

The “Made in Russia” nightmare of death and destruction continues.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Ukraine needs to end this.

If Russia stops fighting, there is no more war.

If Ukraine stops fighting, there is no more Ukraine.

Ukraine will not end it until every Ukrianian soldier is dead - they are fighting for their homeland.

Russia will not end it and all soldiers in Ukraine will die- they are fighting for a guy who looks good shirtless on a horse.

Ukraine needs to end this.

If Russia stops fighting, there is no more war.Russia have no reason to stop.

If Ukraine stops fighting, there is no more Ukraine.UA is gone for good and one day if this conflict will end will be much smaller than before.

Ukraine will not end it until every Ukrianian soldier is dead - they are fighting for their homeland.UA is proxy battlefield USA/NATO vs Russia.UA heroi are dying in name of USA/NATO interests.USA/NATO will push Kiev regime to fight until last soldier.

Russia will not end it and all soldiers in Ukraine will die- they are fighting for a guy who looks good shirtless on a horse.Russia will end when their demands will be met and peace deal will be signed.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

So many willing to fight to the last person when it's not their people who are dying.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

Why isn't the media reporting if the Ukrainians want this war to continue? Have they been even asked?

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Ian - real easy to tell another country to surrender when it’s not your country.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

I don't want my people to die needlessly.

If you're Russian, your people are dying for the greed of a dictator who was willing to act as the pawn of Winnie The Xi in attacking Ukraine. It served both their needs - China gets a dry run for Taiwan, and in 72 hours, Russia was supposed to get Kyiv...

Personally, if I were Russian (and maybe I am), I would hate that dictator for sending my countrymen off to die in a foreign land for no good reason.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

It hasn't seemed to dawn on most people that the threat to Crimea is from Odessa oblast coming in the form of air and sea drones, and the odd long-range missile attack like Storm Shadow (air launched) and perhaps ATACMS should they eventually get some.

The reality check is the counter offensive is not a threat to Crimea.

Just in - elements of the BSF conducted naval exercises shown on TV in which ships and aviation fired long range anti-ship missiles at surface targets. This is clearly a warning to any foreign flagged vessels thinking of entering areas declared unsafe for navigation.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Ian - yes, the Ukrainians want to fight to expel the invaders from their land. I am sorry to assume that you wouldn’t fight to defend your country, but that is not how most people are.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Intelligent?

Bwahahaha

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Sorry to assume that you would* fight.

if you are a committed pacifist, I can respect that, but again, that is not how most people are. Most people hate the idea of submitting to a foreign invader.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

JJE - if Russia is going to fire in ships heading to Ukraine, why wouldn’t Ukraine repay the favor in kind?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

JJE - if Russia is going to fire in ships heading to Ukraine, why wouldn’t Ukraine repay the favor in kind?

Yes, let's remember, this isn't tit-for-tat fighting, it's tit-for-fighting for the existence of your homeland against a foreign invader.

few facts

UA have no chance to defeat Russia and win over Russia.

this conflict damages more Ukraine and its donors than Russia itself.all of antirussian sanctions backfiring at heir imposers hard.

no NATO weaponry,no westmedia proUA support,no foreign mercenaries fightning for Kiev,no sanctions against Russia brought UA victory even one step closer.

UA is battlefield of USA/NATO vs Russia,UA is used as tool against Russia.

there is no military solution for this conflict.

one and only solution for this conflict is peace negotiation.later this will happen-worst possition of UA and its backers will be.

Russia is not hurry.have own resources, money, weapons production, will to fight and will to win and never give up its fight.

Well, of course it damages Ukraine. Sanctions aren't backfiring.

no NATO weaponry,no westmedia proUA support,no foreign mercenaries fightning for Kiev,no sanctions against Russia brought UA victory even one step closer.

Yes they will.

UA is battlefield of USA/NATO vs Russia,UA is used as tool against Russia.

US/NATO are not involved in this war. Russia started this war, it can finish at any time, so UA isn't used as a tool against Russia.

there is no military solution for this conflict.

Well, they are running out of tanks. Ukraine now have more tanks than Russia. Russia is losing equipment three times faster than Ukraine. At that rate they will lose the capability to wage war before Ukraine. Russian morale is very low and there is a purge of their generals. Wagner have made Putin look weak, which is why he is purging generals.

Putin started that conflict, why would he want to end it?

2 ( +7 / -5 )

there is no military solution for this conflict.

I'm not sure where you came up with that logic. There are two ways this war ends:

1) Russia turns around and goes home

2) Ukraine kills enough Russian soldiers that the Russian soldiers lose confidence in their government and fall apart (how every war ends when the losing side refuses to quit)

2 ( +8 / -6 )

"if Russia is going to fire in ships heading to Ukraine, why wouldn’t Ukraine repay the favor in kind?"

Indeed, Ukraine has said they will consider any ship that appears to be heading to Russian ports as potentially hostile with all the consequences. Was widely reported yesterday.

EastmanToday  11:32 am JST Russia is not hurry.have own resources, money, weapons production, will to fight and will to win and never give up its fight.........................You mean like they did in Afghanistan? 15,000 troops were killed in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989. During the war, the Soviet Army also lost hundreds of aircraft and billions worth of other military machines. Around two million Afghan men, women, and children died in the war. Please not the last sentence, 2 MILLION Afghan people died. But who won in the end........Oh yes, Afghanistan. The magnificent Russian army was thoroughly trounced by a bunch of armed Afghans. As for modern day Russia having the resources and weapons...and the same magnificent Russian army, well, the whole world has witnessed just how UN-magnificent they are.

Huh? We all know this is a proxy war between China and Ukraine. It's China's dry-run at an invasion of Taiwan. Putin just jumped on board because China told him he could take Kyiv in 72 hours.
