The SDF can start by paying it’s servicemembers better.

The GSDF soldiers we trained with were payed about 2/3rds that of US Marines at LCpl level, and the gap widened as the pay grade rose.

They also had less benefits like free education for dependents, no GI bill, no free or subsidized housing, etc… and the camp facilities were scant even by USMC standards.

What a pair of absolute nimrods

Interesting origin to that insult. Buggs Bunny often called Elmer Fudd a “Nimrod” in reference to the Bible verse “Nimrod was a mighty hunter,”describing the king of Babel.

@Desert Tortoise

Wearing ridiculous disguises was never an official policy, but many test pilots with a sense of humor copied original P-59 test pilot Jack Woolams habit of wearing a Gorrilla suit.

There was a documentary on it, although I will admit it was probably embellished quite a bit.

In the 50’s test pilots of the 1st generation fighter jets and helicopters wore gorilla suits, Bigfoot masks, clown makeup and other ridiculous disguises so any eyewitness reports would be dismissed as crazy talk. They would also trick out the exterior with enough colorful lights to make a Carnival float embarrassed just to up the crazy factor.

Randy,it obviously the army trusted him with their secrets

The biggest “secret” a Pvt in an armored unit would be privy to is that Staff Sergeant is having an affair with an admin clerk, and the vehicle commander is gay.

Then name just one military conflict the US has won overseas ?

Uh-huh...yeah oh ok..all thore war crimes and weapons of mass destruction but still haven't won any conflicts without help have they !

Tactical or political victory?

In tactical terms, every US war since WW2 was a slam dunk, with enemy casualties more than 10 times higher than US casualties.

Politically and strategically, not so much, because other than “peacekeeping,” “stopping the spread of communism,” and “war on terror” the objectives and end state were never clear.

When did the US use WMDs since 1945?

this shocked me. I thought 45,000 and their whole family members paid by our tax money. In Chatan, Okinawa. they get a three story house with utilities, internet, parking, healthcare paid for by our tax. Childcare also. But the pilot I went diving with, ¥220,000 beachfront apartment. Imagine the cost in Tokyo, Yokohama?

After UDP was implemented in the Marine Corps, most Marines are only in Japan for less than a year, and don’t/can’t bring their family members or dependents.

Some Marines favor the UDP system, some prefer the old system where you could live on Oki for several years with your family and integrate with the community.

Japan already supported US logistics in Vietnam and Korea.

Camp Zama can support an entire Army Brigade Combat Team, and Okinawa has the infrastructure to support at least an entire Marine Division.

My grandmother was an Army nurse and treated GIs at the formerly US occupied JGSDF camp Asaka during the Vietnam War.

Private 2nd Class Travis King had been held on assault charges and was released on July 10 after serving his time. He was being sent home to Fort Bliss, Texas,

King is a cavalry scout who joined the service in January 2021

2 1/2 years of service and still a Pvt… Fort Bliss… 1st Armored Div… So many indicators of diminished mental capacity.

Should’ve been at least a Specialist or Corporal by now. Something tells me he’s either been busted down in rank a few times, or is a habitual offender who can’t promote.

Fort Bliss, what a joke. Almost as bad as Fort Polk.

The Army has the money and personnel, so a lot of R-TRDs slip through the cracks.

These missiles are being sold to Yemen, Iran, Sudan, Syria, etc… and generate revenue for NK, as their meth and counterfeit operations are in the decline.

These tests are to demonstrate capabilities to potential buyers, and to maintain the legitimacy of the Kim regime.

Don't rely totally on governments or authorities, use something that is called Common Sense.

To a certain degree, yes. But ultimately it is also the govt’s responsibility to ensure the safety of even it’s most uninformed citizens, as it is the govt who controls all the disaster control and early warning infrastructure.

And with increasing reliance on 'SmartPhones', note that there is not an 'App' for it!

There are multiple apps in Japan (and I assume in SK as well) that give real time disaster alerts and evacuation warnings. The J-alert, Tsunami/Earthquake alerts, and evacuation alerts are activated even without an App.

Kim thinks it is a video game. He is delusional, paranoid and a narcissist. It is highly unlikely the US is spying on him.

The Kim regime is actually pragmatic, calculating, and realist. Their end goal is the survival of the regime. They’ve had further success with fewer resources than Saddam, Ghaddafi, Castro, etc…

The U-2 is still very much in service in the US, UK, and Taiwan.

The U-2’s advantage is its service ceiling. However, it is not stealth, and definitely not fast or maneuverable.

I have no doubt that NK has Soviet era air defenses that were purpose built to take down U-2s.

Posted in: North Korea warns it may shoot down U.S. spy planes violating its airspace See in context

We have advanced. The DORKs have not.

The Soviet Union developed air defense systems specifically made to shoot down the U-2.

The only spy plane that was legit “unshootable” was the Sr-71, simply because it was so fast and flew so high that by the time the missile was in range, the SR-71 was miles away.

Sorry Taiwan but holding off Chinese forces and waiting for outside help isn't realistically feasible if China decides to swoop in all at once.

China does no where near the Sea/Airlift capacity, nor the expertise in amphibious operations to “sweep in all at once.”

China, although they do have a sizable paramilitary maritime militia, only has 2 amphibious assault ships and a battalion of Marines.

In the current balance of forces, a hasty attempt at a Normandy or Iwojima style amphibious invasion, although it may make beachhead and some gains inland, the logistic requirements will catch up to them and they will quagmire like Russia did in Ukraine.

A JGSDF “Lead Private” is equivalent to a USMC Lance Corporal. A rank achievable by two years of service and being somewhat mentally functional.

It appears to be an over reaction to a slacker getting lost on a patrol or land navigation exercise. Something that happens all the time in any military.
