Laughable from Communist China - "warning" fishing boats away from a Japanese island.

The sooner the JSDF build a fortified and heavily armed base on one of these islands, the better.

Xi the Pooh is such a laugh. Don't take the little man seriously he's nothing but bluster.

Not the actions of a potential friend or ally, but more the actions of an enemy. China shows through its actions, that it is never to be trusted. This leaves no option for Japan but to confront and expel Chinese ships from Japanese territorial waters.

Accordng to China, they own everything. From ancient times no less. A joke of a country.

The Chinese surveillance ships have been entering sailing and patrolling in the waters of these islands almost every day in last 5 years and the Japanese coast guard ships were too scared to even get closer to the bigger Chinese ships let alone driven the Chinese ships away.

Taishojima, the easternmost island in the Senkakus/Diaoyudaos, used to be called (Kumi-) Akajima in the old Ryukyu vernacular. Chen Kwan, a Chinese royal emissary to Ryukyu Kingdom, recorded the island's name as "Chiwey Yu" meaning "red-tailed island (1534). No doubt, "Chiwei Yu" was a semantic translation from Ryukyuan "Akajima", which could mean "red island" in folk etymology.

China thus can't claim sovereignty over the Senkakus/Diaoyudaos simply on the basis of Chen Kwan's description. These uninhabited islands seem to have belonged to no-one historically. They only worked as landmarks for ancient Ryukyu seafarers.

Even you should know they were not always uninhabited! Not to mention that your buddy the politician who is Gov of Okinawa, legitimatizes China's claims to the islands, in their eyes, by going and visiting China and working to establish stronger ties!

lingering tensions

No, it is not lingering tensions!!! It's called occupation of another countries territory!!!

Tells you everything you need to know about this disgusting deceitful regime, that the diplomat Wang Li is suggesting that China / Japan / South Korea should form an alliance together to exclude Western-style democracies.

Of course democracy is the last thing China wants for its' people, which is why the total repression continues throughout every aspect of Chinese lives - what a terrible country to live in, apart from the elite few Special Ones there.

Good to see their export trade figures are down again, 20% less in the last 6-months than the previous half-year; I'm just hoping everyone gets the message, "don't buy anything Made in China" stamped on it, we need absolutely nothing from them really .

Meanwhile, economic ties and tourism remain strong and recent years have seen an abeyance in once-frequent anti-Japanese street protests in China.

The above can change in an instant if the CCP so desires…

China warns and make claims to everyone! Big rabid dog showing a lot of teeth salivating at the mouth with its tail between it legs!!

Maybe it's about time china is "Warned" with some old Anti-Ship missles that are near their shelf / expiration date....good time to test another type of rocket in Real World scenario(s).

…. controversial comments suggesting China, Japan and South Korea should establish an alliance based on cultural and racial similarities in order to exclude the U.S. and other Western-style democracies.

Someone needs to point out to this Mephistophelian schemer the tremendous danger inherent in such zero sum game civilizational relativism. It’s appallingly tone deaf, not to mention jaw droppingly arrogant to lecture us untermenschen outside the charmed circle that we need to be quarantined. Listening to his diatribe, how can we feel anything but animus towards the millions of Chinese immigrants who have made their homes among us. Presumably, his belief in Sinic civilizational superiority is such that we should only be too happy to have our ethnic displacement gifted to us by these superior beings.

Due to Japan's shaky legal claims(Periphery Islands of Taiwan that Japan has failed to return per the condition of surrender), Diaoyu Islands are off limit to all Japanese civilians, can't approach within 1 km of them. Building bases on them would trigger a Chinese military response.

Japan's terms of surrender.

"that all the territories Japan has stolen from the Chinese, such as Manchuria, Formosa, and The Pescadores, shall be restored to the Republic of China."

Japan has a legal obligation to return the Diaoyu Islands to the Republic of China(aka Taiwan). This is why Japan BANNED all Japanese civilians from approaching within 1 km of the Diaoyu Islands.

It's easy to rationalize theft when you have the advantage of third party treaties imposed on Japan by force. Thankfully the US rectified much of this. Also you'd still have to prove it was owned by the Chinese first and not just sailed by.

Just put down a stone marker saying they are Japanese and be done with it.

The South China sea...

Well, there is a hint in the name.

@TaiwanIsNotChina

How territories disputed/claimed by Japan are treated.

1) Liancourt Rocks : Liancourt Rocks are a heavily visited tourist destination where all are welcome, even Japanese. All that is needed is a ferry ticket and a government issued ID(To board a ferry boat, ID recording is needed just in case of an accident) to be photocopied, no special permit or anything like that needed.

2) Southern Kurils : Southern Kurils are open to Japanese visitors assuming they get the visitation visa. Certain Japanese got visa-waiver.

3) Diaoyu Islands : All Japanese civilians are banned from even approaching the islands by 1 km by Japanese government.

So what are the differences? Korean claims on the Liancourt Rocks and Russian claims on Southern claims are rock solid and iron clad. Japanese claims on Diaoyu Islands are not.

Russian claims on Southern claims are rock solid and iron clad.

Don't make me laugh. Again a third party treaty enforced at the point of a gun is not exactly stellar law, is it? And those islands had Japanese citizens on them, for pete's sake.

Japanese claims on Diaoyu Islands are not.

Again you'd have to prove Chinese occupation and not just sailing by it.

Good to know Japan owns the entire Sea of Japan, India the Indian Ocean, and Mexico the Gulf of Mexico.

All I want to point out is that China can't lay claim to the Senkakus/Diaoyudaos solely on the basis of Chen Kwan's historical document; it can't expel local fishing boats from the area with its coast guard ships, saying the boats have intruded China's sovereign territory.

Is there any other evidence that the Senkakus/Diaoyudaos have really belonged to China since time immemorial? If it can't show the evidence, China will never fail to face disgrace and humiliation to the nail.
