Flipping homework is an option. Students do the homework in class and read/listen to lectures at their leisure.

For written homework in my ESL classes I no longer give one subject to all the students. I ask them to write about their personal experiences relating to our subject.

I also ask “What do you think about…?”

AI can’t answer those questions. Yet.

Based

You do not [need] to take ANY mind-altering drug of ANY type

You are generally correct about “needing” weed or booze.

However, on a chat room I belong to the use of cannabis is being explored as a way to cope with chronic pain (as opheliajadefeldt mentioned), depression, and other debilitating symptoms of diseases.

Alcohol doesn’t have the ability to alleviate this kind of pain without severe side effects (car crashes, murder, losing jobs, alcoholism).

While some (healthy) people need neither weed or booze to survive daily life some people need cannabis in order to function in society.

Hokkaido. I was told it was large and beautiful but I had just come from living in Iowa, so it was just more of the same. Maybe I should go back after living in a crowded Kanto city for awhile; might change my perspective.

Feel sorry for the woman stabbed, but why, recently, do news agencies insist on adding what unrelated people says?

A woman who lives near the scene said, "I learned about the incident after hearing sirens. An ambulance and three police vehicles were dispatched to the scene.

I learned about this stabbing when I read it in an online news article.

Can I be in the revised edition?

Of the 67, about 30 percent are primarily arts institutions that will establish science or technology departments for the first time.

While I understand the ministry trying to upgrade STEM education, relying on art schools to start teaching it is not the most efficient way to do it. Primarily because students already interested in STEM will go to established science schools.

The ministry should start with providing competent STEM teachers in elementary, middle, and high school. Then put money in proven and established STEM universities.

Unless this is an LDP boondoggle for ‘friends’ of the ministry, in which case, never-mind; carry on.

Evidently not considering they had an accident resulting in the deaths of two people.

Now, though, it might be safer, especially for the boatmen.

stabbing his father Akihiro several times in the chest with a knife between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday

This sentence can be interpreted a couple of ways. Marc took one way; the other being the stabbing took place sometime while the mother/wife was not at home which was from 9:00 to 1:00.

Which do you think JapanToday meant? Which do you think a reasonable reader would believe?

Editors,

The police must’ve been very confused as the landslide was in Kanagawa but they were in Kanazawa Prefecture, which, to my limited Japanese knowledge, doesn’t exist.

Virusrex

The overall number of missing people in Japan stood at 84,910 in 2022,

That’s the total in all Japan, not just those with dementia. That are reported. The younger ones could’ve just run away from home or moved out with no forwarding address.

But yes, not clearly written.

In this case, the victims were drinking, not the criminal. Should the victims be incarcerated as well?

Posted in: 50 years on, Japan's convenience stores keep evolving to stay competitive See in context

But unless the supermarkets are already closed I just can't stand paying conbini prices any more.

A grocery store sells milk tea for about 85 yen (tax included). I'm pretty sure they are not losing money.

Convenience stores sell the same product (milk tea) for about 150 yen (tax included); sometimes a little less. I'm pretty sure they're not losing money either. In fact, their profit is at least 65 yen over what the grocery stores sell it for.

Also some convenience stores have a huge economic clout over the producers. The convenience stores can demand and get lower wholesale prices than many grocery stores.

In trying economic times such as these, the smart shopper bypasses the convenience store for the grocery store.

Chatgpt and others are going to force teachers to think of better assignments than what they have assigned in the past.

If they assign topics like “Aluminum production in Japan” they’ll naturally get copied reports.

If they assign “Your opinion, based on facts and history, of the aluminum industry in Japan” they might get a hybrid of copied and original work.

And the original work will stand out drastically from the chatgpt work.

Getting students to think logically should be a goal.

Yes.

Many warning signs that his parents ignored because it was 'just a phase' until his father found him hanging from a tree in their backyard. A few of his friends were quite concerned and a couple talked to his parents before his death; but to no avail.

Another gave out huge warning signs: gave away expensive items, got confused and depressed at the slightest thing. However, his wife rushed him to a shrink who talked to him, gave him some drugs and therapy, and he is happily living to this day. Divorced, but happy.
