...state broadcaster CCTV gave no reason for Qin’s removal. He had dropped out of sight almost a month ago and the Foreign Ministry has provided no information about his status.

That is in keeping with the ruling Communist Party’s standard approach to personnel matters within a highly opaque political system where the media and free speech are severely restricted.

This is the paranoid style of all authoritarian power-hungry cliques: presenting "face" of the most brazen kind to the public and donning "the Emperor's New Clothes" are the sine qua non of all ruling cowards.

Can you all take out your Dear Leader as well?

The West have given way too much credence to these jokers, and the results are the same every time. Blinken with his deliberate soft talking ‘blinkers’ on, and Kerry getting publicly b slapped by Xi on the environment. All perfectly planned and executed for maximum effect. When do we learn that these guys are playing a different game?

With its highly opaque political system abetted by strict controls over the media and civil society, it is difficult to gauge how Xi and other Chinese leaders see the relationship at this point.

Don’t think it’s hard at all. Contempt is what they feel, a revenge itch that cannot be scratched. Entitled, over inflated and delusional . Why dance around the facts? Don’t want to hurt their feelings? They do!

Beautiful to see conflict and cracks appear within the CCP. Nothing could be better than to see the unelected, elite Chinese leadership in chaos.

Just another example that while Xi may think of himself as the all-powerful Emperor, there are power centers within the CCP that he does not control...

Seeing what the Chinese military do whenever a US official visits, it's clear Xi has no control over them...

It's just a matter of time before we see another Tiananmen Square...

Wang Yi is cool and smart. Good move.
