Naturally, what else would one expect?!

Consider it a badge of honor!

denying him a visa to enter the country,

Oh, that's gotta sting. No liberal (in the classic sense)-minded person would ever enter that autioltarian morass.

What assets or business interests does Michael McCaul have in China to be sanctioned?

The CCP is laughable!

The CCP is laughable!

Tell me any political party in this world which is not laughable!

Big deal. All hot wind and bluster.

Actually, nothing deters the US from supporting any nation.

I expect Bass and Blacklabel to condemn Rep. McCaul as they did Nancy Pelosi for doing the same.

I’ll be tipping my hat to the Congressman while awaiting their furious response.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

I don't think he will lose any sleep anytime soon.

I expect Bass and Blacklabel to condemn Rep. McCaul as they did Nancy Pelosi for doing the same.

They are working on a way to make his visit to Taiwan 'different' to Nancy's without revealing that it's because he's a Republican and not a Democrat. They'll expect us to believe them and not laugh too much.

These are the same people that are somehow going to mediate the Ukraine / Russia non-war.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Maybe the Chinese, should sanction them for being racist, lots of these White leaders have no credibility for their own extreme beliefs against minorities in America,an are no different from the Chinese government

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

I wonder if the U.S. were to provide Taiwan with a military capability (Nuc), if the Chinese would change their aggressive actions and become more peaceful?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Carl, the US will do what it always do,leave country high and dry

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

China's (and by China's, I mean Xi's) behavior regarding Taiwan border on the schizophrenic. The island has been sovereign from the mainland since 1949. China's actions today should reflect reality, not wishful thinking.

Taiwan has a complicated history. It was invaded by the Qing in the late 17th century. It took two centuries for the Qing to conquer the island, only to cede it to Japan in 1895. It was ceded to the Nationalist Chinese government in 1945, who retreated there from the mainland in 1949. Xi has decided that the island should again be part of a greater Chinese empire, with him as Emperor.

The US had nuclear weapons in Taiwan and they were there for the Communists. The Communists told the US to remove them and in 1972, Nixon ordered nuclear weapons to be removed from Taiwan. This was implemented by 1974. Nuclear weapons are known to have been stored at Tainan Air Force Base.

This is the only time, where a country literally told the US to do as it says and the US complied. No other examples to my knowledge.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Carl, the US will do what it always do,leave country high and dry

Absolutely. They left Taiwan to the Communists and that's why they're on a tiny island instead of mainland to begin with. They left South Korea, South Vietnam, Afghanistan government, and most recently Ukraine.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Xi has decided that the island should again be part of a greater Chinese empire, with him as Emperor.

He didn't, Taiwan is part of China, Taiwan also asserts that it is part of China and that its govt is the one that has jurisdiction over the entire country

The sanctions against Rep Michael McCaul include freezing his assets and properties in China

If he has assets and properties in China, what business does he have being an American representative? Supposed to divest. "One rule for thee, but not for me" principle? Politicians, Am I right?

The big Western powers need to stop kowtowing to this bully. Withdraw diplomatic recognition, and establish embassies in Taiwan. Watch them come grovelling back

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Sanctioning the Ronald Reagan library? What a bold the move. Of course I find it as amusing as any other Westerner that Trump could inflame Asians inferiority complex by using reaganesque rhetoric and demeanor, as fraudulent as it was. They're going too far by taking cheap shots at Reagan, lol.

Badge of honor.

Tho I prefer Trey Parker and Matt Stone's badge of honor, when China banned South Park. Must have been such a satisfaction.

Lep, American will start fighting over shoes,if China stop selling them

Doubtful. Manufacturing is moving out of China into cheaper labor areas of the world. Heck, even Mexico is cheaper labor than China now. In SE Asia, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand all have manufacturing that's cheaper than China today.

The CCP oppression overhead is destroying China's manufacturing competitiveness. Add in that China will steal intellectual property and not even deny it is another reason to avoid business with that country until the CCP is gone and rule of law finally happens within an open society.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

China is too busy sanctioning libraries to sanction McCarthy. No American would want to visit China anyways as it has proven to be an abducting state.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Is the world prepared to stop buying products made in China ? That could wreak the world economy ? How far are we willing to go ? World leaders need to stop fighting and get together, and help world climate, and hunger to benefit all mankind. Are we prepared to do that ? Sadly i think not

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

They left Taiwan to the Communists and that's why they're on a tiny island instead of mainland to begin with.

I'm glad you feel we should have done more to snuff out the CCP. Unfortunately, with the backing of the CCP by the Soviet Union and the US tired of war after WW2, this didn't happen. The CCP really owes its corrupt existence to the SU.

They left South Korea, South Vietnam, Afghanistan government, and most recently Ukraine.

South Korea was a win for the US. Government is still there. So are Germany, Japan, and Iraq. Ukraine has yet to be decided but seems 90% likely or more Zelenskyy will continue. You really need to come up with better examples if only 50% of them are correct.

No American would want to visit China anyways as it has proven to be an abducting state.

Sadly, that isn't true. There are lots of reasons to visit China even if you don't like the CCP. Many Americans have married Chinese nationals and visiting their family is something they do yearly. Of course, most choose to outside China, but there are many Americans living with their spouses inside China too.

Some Americans, without any ties to China at all, can still be fascinated by the culture and dislike the CCP.

Then there are Americans without any goal other than to make money who don't really care about the CCP, provided their business with China is left alone. They've probably cultivated business ties with Chinese counterparts and want to get a return on that investment.

There are many Chinese people who are fun to interact with when in China. It can be a great experience. There are also some not-so-nice Chinese, but those are a small group IME there.

Basically, there are all sorts of people in the world and each will decide their own reasons for visiting any specific location.

Dislike the CCP, but most Chinese people just want to be left alone and stay below any point where the CCP notices them.

Good, sanction the clowns..

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Scoff all you like. The USA is the country that is sanction (and sanctimonious) happy. Strong countries won't put up with it.

China sanctioned me from using the restroom in the country I was so pissed!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@theFu You might be right. Then again, China has received a long list of world leaders recently in Beijing, including leaders from Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, France, Germany and now Brazil. Were they all there because they had an uncontrollable craving for authentic Peking Duck?

Except that the US is afraid to hold a referendum in Taiwan because most Taiwanese do NOT want to be independent. Even the Tsai government knows this

You'd have to hold the referendum with the CCP eliminated from the mainland and a peaceful regime in its place. Maybe some day.

This is laughable, I would be curious to know how many Americans have summer houses in China...

I would be curious to know how many Americans have summer houses in China...

Considering that private land ownership isn't allowed in China by anyone, the number is easy to calculate - ZERO, zilch, nada, 0.

The govt collective "owns" all land and effectively grants leases. Different types of land come with different "rights" ... which are subservient to whatever the CCP decides today. Make the wrong CCP member unhappy and any "rights" can be removed without due process.

In general, rural collectives own agricultural land and the state owns urban land.

However, this right has to comply with laws and social morality. It can harm neither public interests nor the legitimate rights and interests of others.

Which means that any polluting company is violating land laws, but as long as they have the support of the local CCP leaders, they are untouchable.
