Mah-mah mah-mah mah-mah mah!

Mah-mah mah-mah mah-mah mah!

Xi and his CCP are shooting their yappers again like Pac-Men. And don't they still have this pandemic to fight, like we all do? They ought to just shut up and stick it where the sun don't shine.

Why on earth do you want to smash Taiwan so bad?!

You have one of the best economies in the world. Taiwan is actually helping make China great by developing much needed computer chips, which you've apparently forgotten about. Like Russia and its swollen head, China can never have enough.

If Xi invades China that will probably be the beginning of the end for him.

Independence for Taiwan!

15 ( +15 / -0 )

Yes, just China's peaceful rise here.

A recent increase in exchanges between the U.S. and Taiwanese militaries is an “extremely wrong and dangerous move,” Defense Ministry spokesperson Col. Tan Kefei said in a statement and video posted online.

And also none of your darn business! Get your grandpa on to express the same outrage.

yawn....the standard rhetoric.......yawn

I have a good idea: how about a referendum in Taiwan about independence with independent, international observers? Who could object?

One moment China claims to be a PEACEFUL nation and promotes some form of solution between Ukraine and Russia.

Then the next moment, they say "We will smash Taiwan!!"

Talk about being two-faced❗❗

China has never 'owned' Taiwan, this isn't a "we'll take it back" argument it's a threat of war and invasion.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Attacking/absorbing a whole different country is one of the most nonsense things another country can do these days.

not to mention the economic destruction it causes for the the invader and world, but the humanitarian disaster they would place on themselves for the next century plus?

Congratulations you now have Taiwan! Now you have millions of new people to take care of. Oh and all the rebel activities that will no doubt spawn off it. Oh and don’t forget all the domestic plight your censors will go into overtime for to get rid of people talking about their dead family members and so on.

I know Taiwan is their pipe dream war but honestly, modern wars are a complete crapshoot logistically and only the old heads who were born right after ww2 still hunger for them off the “good ol days” stories of their parents and grandparents.

Harpoon anti-ship missiles, F-16 fighter jets, shoulder-fired Javelin and Stinger missiles and the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System

Clear to see who is benefitting from both the war in Ukraine and all this sabre rattling.

how about a referendum in Taiwan about independence with independent, international observers? Who could object?

Communist China, for sure.

Taiwan's status should be decided by Taiwanese people.

Arming Taiwan and promising to protect it from any invasion is the best way to guarantee longterm peace.

I have a good idea: how about a referendum in Taiwan about independence with independent, international observers?

Sure. You hold down the CCP and I will collect the results.

Taiwan isn't an independent nation its a self ruled island

So Taiwan controls EVERYTHING on the island and around it. The PRC controls a word on a document. Just so we're clear.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

The people who live in Taiwan and not those who live in Beijing get to decide how they want to live their lives. Like Putin's Russia, Xi's China has no freedoms to entice the Taiwanese to change the status of their island home.

What ol' Jack Burton always saysToday  08:43 am JST

China has never 'owned' Taiwan, this isn't a "we'll take it back" argument it's a threat of war and invasion.

Perhaps you might consider rewording your comment to say the current government of mainland China has never owned Taiwan.

Because Taiwan officially became part of China over 3 hundred years ago."

Why you selectively go back 300 years? What about before that? The mainland Chinese only came after Taiwan had been colonized by the Dutch, so according to your pretzel logic, it should actually be part of Holland. But wait, in fact the rightful "owners" are the indigenous peoples who have been there for 6000 years. Let's peacefully return the land to them.

which have called on the Biden administration to follow through on nearly $19 billion in military items approved for sale but not yet delivered to Taiwan.

The US is a dead beat.

I have a good idea: how about a referendum in Taiwan about independence with independent, international observers? Who could object?

You're not the sharpest tack. They'd vote no because they wouldn't want war.

China says it is ready to 'smash' Taiwan self-rule

Knee jerk reactions here. The proper translation is "defeat" Taiwan in case of war. Who would say "we are ready to lose to Taiwan?" The verb is the same verb used in Japanese for defeat and you hear it in sports news. The Swallows defeat the Tigers. The Swallows tear and smash the Tigers apart 破る is for those who like drama.

The Chinese civil war ended in 1949. The Chinese Republic forces lost it and fled to Taiwan and reestablished a new nation there. Mao and his CCP of course conquered the mainland and established the 'People's Republic of China'.

That means that after the civil war the old pre-WW2 Chinese Republic ceased to exist, it split. Xi and the CC{ need to get their heads out of their butts and face the truth and quit lying to everyone (including themselves). They don't rule Taiwan, it isn't theirs and they have no valid claim to it. At all.

It's not 1945, it's 2023. The CCP needs to take their lumps and shaddup. If they were to mess with Taiwan, they could get UN sanctions put on them just like Russia.

You're not the sharpest tack. They'd vote no because they wouldn't want war.

Who'd crazily threaten a war over a totally fair action to decide self determination? Surely nobody who was fair-minded. A referendum would surely be the fairest way of finalising the issue. No? Am I missing something as "not the sharpest tack"?

Taiwan's like gasoline powered (ICE) car, living dead with no future, Zombie status, little rock's not worth WWIII.

Then again, neither is Ukraine or ANY country, idealism very dangerous, world needs to find pragmatic solutions, based on shared values & interests, NOT destabilization.

Massive human & financial capital outflows from Taiwan, obvious they don't believe in their future there.

@Moonraker

I have a good idea: how about a referendum in Taiwan about independence

That's the worst idea because it leads to war. The people in Taiwan know this and do not wish to have war. Why do you think there has been no referendum? You think they have never considered this and need a great mind to suggest doing so? So in essence, this is warmongering.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Yes,

"Smash smash smash" because that is the only thing besides "copy, steal, pirate" that the CCP is good at.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

China’ is prepared to “resolutely smash any form of Taiwan independence,” its military said Tuesday,

Well they are very late doing it. Taiwan has been functioning as an independent entity since 1949 and continues this independence today in 2023. So when does China plan to stop Taiwan's independence? Still going after 74 years, will they smash it on it's 100 year anniversary?

It may fool many of its domestic audience, but the world knows Taiwan is both independent and not part of CCP ruled China.

It's a civil war not an invasion

The civil war ended in 1949. So it is nation against nation whether you like it or not.

Taiwan isn't an independent nation its a self ruled island

Taiwan answers to nobody but it's own citizens. That makes it fully independent of any other nation or power. Your words prove my point not your own assertions.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Who'd crazily threaten a war over a totally fair action to decide self determination? Surely nobody who was fair-minded. A referendum would surely be the fairest way of finalising the issue. No? Am I missing something as "not the sharpest tack"?

Yes, you are missing the brutal CCP who would rather see Taiwan destroyed rather than chart an independent course.
