American has lost every war since nuking women and children in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, so China has nothing to fear.

It's like reasoning with North Korea.

Taiwan is not Hong Kong.

Taiwan has sharp teeth.

And it will use those sharp teeth to go for the chinazis' throats.

Technically China has lost every war since 1953, too. In their case they are largely too afraid to start one, though.

Taiwan needs to have anti-ship drones/missiles for every man, woman, and child. If the current solutions are too expensive, then they should go cheaper.

China's economy is going to implode, the autocratic dictatorship with it. Their bloodyminded approach to foreign policy is only working as long as the checks clear and once they don't, their friends will desert them.

Thanks for the chuckle. Top country in what? Number of people executed?

No matter how much of the ordinary people's taxpayer money the ... Taiwanese separatist forces spend, no matter how many U.S. weapons, it will not shake our resolve to solve the Taiwan problem. Or shake our firm will to realize the reunification of our motherland,” said Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office.

And yet China continues to do absolutely NOTHING to achieve that goal with the exception of planning a military conflict. China has nothing to offer Taiwan that can tempt its people to willingly fall under CCP rule. One country, two systems has been proven completely false, with Hong Kong losing its right to free speech, move further toward democracy and self rule without mainland interference. All having being nullified, banned or made illegal by the CCP.

China talks but does nothing to deliver a position that the people of Taiwan can accept. They harass and intimidate and do they honestly think such actions will endear them to the citizens of Taiwan? More lies from China about "solving the Taiwan problem" other than conquest, death and destruction.

The rulers of the mainland are clueless as to how they can maintain iron control over Taiwan yet get them to agree to CCP laws and interference willingly.

The simple problem is democracies have more individual liberties and freedoms that autocratic China is unwilling to give its citizens, and would remove from the people of Taiwan either immediately or over a number of years. No sane individual would willingly give away their liberties and freedoms for a more repressive and controlling government they are unable to change no matter how much they may want it to change. The Communist Party not only does not tempt those in a more free society to regress, because that thought terrifies ordinary people, it actively works against its own interests by continually using its military to intimidate and put fear into those it needs to woo.

So China is doing nothing to resolve the Taiwan issue other than rely on threats and fear that fails before it was even started. China has nothing for Taiwan or its people, that is the bottom line.

Taiwan was a Chinese colony for about 200 years (formally the Kingdom of the Ryukus) before reverting to Japan until the end of WW2. Other countries have given their former colonies independence when their citizens have demanded it. Why can't China do the same - or perhaps the US and India should be reclaimed by the UK.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Taiwan was not a colony,it part of China, why did the US fight it civil war,to bring runaway state back into the Union

-22 ( +0 / -22 )

Like I said elsewhere, it should be $345 billion!!!

7 ( +8 / -1 )

But didn’t China promise the U.S. to let Taiwan reunify with China on its terms at a time of Taiwan’s choosing?

What happened to that promise?

Was it worthless?

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The US has no say in Taiwan affairs,it not doing a good job ,of taking care of it own affairs

China is still controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, and all other political parties are not permitted to exist. China is nowhere near democratic, semi or otherwise, as the populace still have no right to vote for their national leaders. China in 2023 is an authoritarian dictatorship where those deemed a threat to the CCP from politicians to journalists are held and detained or just disappear. China is not the "top" country in anything other than ip theft and product counterfeiting. No sane country in Asia much less the world wants to follow it. And China did start wars with Vietnam and India and lost both.

Taiwan was never a part of "China (PRC)". It was a colony of the Dutch, the Qing Dynasty, Imperial Japan and since 1945 a part of the Republic of China (ROC). An attempt by the PRC to take Taiwan by force would not be a "reunification" but an "invasion".

Taiwan is part of China,I do not know why some people in America,do not realize this,

Taiwan has not been part of mainland China since 1949. No amount of talk will alter that fact.

The US has no say in Taiwan affairs,it not doing a good job ,of taking care of it own affairs.

Neither does mainland China. Taiwan does not answer to anyone but its own citizens.

do a defenseless sheep ,has no choice, but too be led by the shepherd to the slaughter

This "sheep" has teeth and is getting more. There will be a slaughter but it will be mutual with death on both sides.

Starting a conflict now after 73 years of separation is for what? The people of Taiwan clearly do not want it. The majority of ordinary Chinese will get no benefit from a hostile invasion of Taiwan except perhaps dead children in the armed forces. This is purely for Jinping Xi to crow that he conquered the ROC once and for all. All those dead for one mans hubris. Senseless and totally avoidable.

An Asian version of the Ukraine tragedy that is going on for Putin to crow about taking Ukraine for the Russian people, but they get nothing from it but death as well. Empire building is worse today than ever before because everyone should have learnt from history by now how wrong it is. Autocrats just dont care about anything but themselves and their wants. The indisputable proof is in their actions, as their words are often nothing but lies.

It is no way a democratic or even a semi-democratic country whatever that means. LOL! Why aren't you living in the planet's top country and why do you call yourself Rodney?

China....blabbing about taking Taiwan for almost a 100yrs and never doing it.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

China accused the United States of turning Taiwan into an “ammunition depot” after the White House announced a $345 million military aid package for Taipei, and the self-ruled island said Sunday it tracked six Chinese navy ships in waters off its shores.

The timing of this is suspect. We already instigated Russia.

China has no fear of the current US administration.

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

And there you have it Folks, nothing wrong with making money of conflicts.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

This is what china is becoming....and certainly supporting, for decades.

Taiwan is a independent democratic country/state, it's people chose Taiwan to be so.

It is a simple as that.

Now the free democratic world, especially Taiwan close regional neighbors, support the will of the people of Taiwan to democratically decide.

So if the government of China wants a devastating war like none other, it will pay close attention.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Taiwan has never been under China's control. Nixon created the OCP to avoid going to war with China while America was already fighting in Vietnam. China is not superior militarily or economically to the United States and Xi knows it. The Chinese people want democracy and Xi knows it. Any military action against Taiwan would result in external (U.S.) and internal problems that Xi really doesn't want.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

America got enough problem,it do not need some with China, and be satisfied with the 1.25 cent product that help bring happiness in your life

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

that was last century when China was communist.

The ruling party remains a communist party (with Chinese tendencies)

Now it is a progressive semi- democratic capitalist society that is about to be the whole planets top country.

There is nothing democratic about China, nothing progressive about the continued repression of its citizens either.

China will never be the planets top country. It will be its least trusted and most reviled though. China does not have what it takes to lead, as others will not submit to its will.

Good one, Rod. You made me laugh out loud.

Peter14 ,as American why should leaders of China, listen to America, when their is state sanction on oppression of minorities in America,an the Federal do not see fit to clamp down on it ,and their system in place ,but see fit to criticize China

Chairman Xi should surprise the world and especially President Biden and give diplomatic recognition to the ROC-TW asap!

Imagine the PROC establishing diplomatic relations with the ROC-TW while the USA adamantly refuses to give the democratic Island Republic diplomatic love ?

Nobel Peace Prize awaits him.

I don't know what about Xi or the CCP makes you think they would back down from anything. They might as well relinquish their thug rule if they did that.

China is making provocative statements in an attempt to provoke the USA into attacking first. This would enable China to shift the blame for any conflict involving Taiwan onto the US.
