Chinese public sees Japan, U.S. as least trustworthy: survey

Surprise, surprise!

Most people only think what the state-run media tells them to think.

The difference is we can see what their propaganda outlets are churning out whereas they can't see ours. How weak does a political system have to be to be afraid of information?

Interesting survey, however if it's so untrustworthy then why so many of Chinese coming here to Japan?

I would recommend to stay in the trustworthy country that makes you feel better.

I don't see Japanese rushing to move to China but I can see plenty of Chinese moving to untrustworthy Japan to live here permanently.

Feelings are mutual. But I think the Chinese respondents knew that their responses to the Canadian University survey were closely monitored by their government.

Because they don't. Tourism from Mainland China is miniscule compared to before COVID.

There is only one reason that the results showed they think Japan and the US are the least trustworthy, and that is because there was no option to pick the CCP in the survey.

I bet that most Chinese citizens have no trust in the CCP what so ever. The only exception being the million or so in the CCP itself, and those being paid large sums to show loyalty, and even then they take the money knowing the CCP can never be trusted.

Next time have the survey done by the Swiss and include the option to choose the CCP, all anonymously. I bet China comes out on top for being the most untrustworthy nation, as chosen by the population of China itself.

Poll results obtained from people who could legally be incarcerated in their home country can not be considered accurate. If anything the results wouldskew towards the official position of the CCP regardless of what the individuals may really think.

True, but who depends on the other country more, China or Japan?

I think China would do fine without any contact with Japan. Not sure about the other way around, at least not economically.

If they did not answer the correct way then they would have been asked to self-report to one of China's secret police stations in the country, so they could be spirited away to China for a secret trial.

I hope they do view Japan as such and don’t come back in the hordes like they did pre Covid. Mostly rude, lacking manners and social skills and their practice of booking the best restaurants out and then not turning up made many restaurants wary of taking reservations from foreigners they didn’t know.

Yet, they like to travel here and spend their money at baby stores purchasing formula and other baby supplies because for safety reasons and other products, too. So, if they don't like Japan and or the US they can stay home and lock themselves up in their own country and leave us alone.

I have to admit a degree of scepticism in the results of any survey or poll carried out in as tightly monitored oppressive dictatorship as the CCP’S China. Without evidence of how the pollsters ensured that the respondents were being truthful and not just parroting the party line out of justifiable fear the results have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Nonetheless I would be interested to see the other results, not because I think they would be any less doubtful but as a barometer of the CCP attitude to the other countries, be that as a direct control over the respondents or a product of the current propaganda programme.

As if you can trust survey coming from China. The better measure is, Chinese are still buying up Japanese make up products and diapers like mad. You can't dispute the result of people "voting" with their wallet.

The CCP shows mainlanders all the bad outside the country, so of course they have a slanted view. Same for Japanese who have never traveled. If you look at the news of other countries, you only see a biased view with little ability to know what is 100% true and what isn't.

Average Chinese don't see the huge emigration of wealthy Chinese from China, for example. In 2022/2023, millionaire Chinese left China at the highest rate of every other country. India was 2nd. UK was third and Russia was forth. China, India, Russia make sense, but why the UK? This is likely a response to the US involvement in Taiwan which is also about 100 miles away from China.

No country "needs" China. There are plenty of alternatives. In contrast, China "needs" other countries to export to. China has no desire to go back to their 1980s economy.

Chinese don't have fixed political views. They bend easily to the winds and according to their own circumstances. If they are in China they may say they trust Xi Jinping even though they may be at the same time making plans to leave China; if they are in the US, they say they trust the US even while they may be doing things to benefit China secretly. They revise their beliefs and actions to be most advantageous to themselves and their families. Their socio-political system in China has trained them to think and behave this way, which is highly flexible and adaptable.

No surprises here. China's indoctrination of their people has worked and is working. To maintain control over its people, China needs common enemies i.e. the U.S. and Japan. This will ensure control.

China's economy has deteriorated from the days of double-digit growth. National debt and real estate foreclosures have become commonplace. Without bankruptcy laws, many of its citizens have lost their homes but are still on the hook for the mortgages.

Mini-protests against the government are popping up across the country. Unemployment is at an all time high with major foreign companies leaving for neighboring countries. Recent college graduates can't find jobs.

What i find most hilarious and somewhat pathetic is the 700 military bases encircling China by the USA and yet the USA still feels threatened.

I thought China's largest military in the world was going to utterly destroy the US. Sounds like China's inferiority complex is what is pathetic.

First, peace & coexistence should and must be the believe by all, to live in harmony in today's world environmental, economical, political, and social conditions; that said, 3 or 4 decades or so ago USA&Japan survived quite well when China closed its contact with free democratic countries so there is no reason why we can't survive again w/o China. But again, now that China becomes a major global player we all have to work together to build trust and cooperation instead of compete as to who rules the world. Love and be loved, y'all.

This last line above explains quite clearly why it should not be trusted. The Chinese government is watching!

That's not how it works. For example, if an experiment consists of flipping a coin 1000 times, the experimatal result will be within 450-550 heads for about 99.7% of such experiments.

Most polls work with about 1000 subject, and put more effort into trying make sure the sample set is truly random - that's the hard part, making sure there is no undo bias.

As soon as I read the survey was carried out using a local company I knew the statistics would be wrong. As many have said if the US and Japan are the most untrustworthy why are Chinese paying thousands to fly to Central America to try and enter the US through the Southern border? And so many are coming to Japan to work and live? Come on, use common sense.

Is the same true of the Chinese people who receive news mocking the drug and gun crisis in America rather than issues that should be of importance at home?

I had the unfortunate experience of watching a video on YT yesterday posted by a Chinese person, showing what is happening in state run private Chinese schools. What the young children, from 3/4 upwards are taught is revolting and hideous. They are even given full size military weapons to practice with, and are shown how to bayonet people of other races. The hatred on these young faces for any one foreign was indescribable. And do you want to know which 2 foreign races most of this hat was aimed at, one was the USA, obviously, the other was.......well, you have guessed right.
