Surprise, surprise!

Most people only think what the state-run media tells them to think.

19 ( +31 / -12 )

The difference is we can see what their propaganda outlets are churning out whereas they can't see ours. How weak does a political system have to be to be afraid of information?

18 ( +25 / -7 )

Interesting survey, however if it's so untrustworthy then why so many of Chinese coming here to Japan?

I would recommend to stay in the trustworthy country that makes you feel better.

I don't see Japanese rushing to move to China but I can see plenty of Chinese moving to untrustworthy Japan to live here permanently.

"There are three types of lies -- lies, damn lies, and statistics."

Benjamin Disraeli

Feelings are mutual. But I think the Chinese respondents knew that their responses to the Canadian University survey were closely monitored by their government.

4 ( +11 / -7 )

Interesting survey, however if it's so untrustworthy then why so many of Chinese coming here to Japan?

Because they don't. Tourism from Mainland China is miniscule compared to before COVID.

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

There is only one reason that the results showed they think Japan and the US are the least trustworthy, and that is because there was no option to pick the CCP in the survey.

I bet that most Chinese citizens have no trust in the CCP what so ever. The only exception being the million or so in the CCP itself, and those being paid large sums to show loyalty, and even then they take the money knowing the CCP can never be trusted.

Next time have the survey done by the Swiss and include the option to choose the CCP, all anonymously. I bet China comes out on top for being the most untrustworthy nation, as chosen by the population of China itself.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Poll results obtained from people who could legally be incarcerated in their home country can not be considered accurate. If anything the results wouldskew towards the official position of the CCP regardless of what the individuals may really think.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Feelings are mutual

True, but who depends on the other country more, China or Japan?

I think China would do fine without any contact with Japan. Not sure about the other way around, at least not economically.

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

If they did not answer the correct way then they would have been asked to self-report to one of China's secret police stations in the country, so they could be spirited away to China for a secret trial.

If they truly believe it then they are probably here to steal from this country.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

2,000 people polled out of 1.4 billion is not even an accurate poll.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Clearly brainwashed, freedom-despising fools.

How many centuries will these morons hold grudges for?

8 ( +12 / -4 )

I hope they do view Japan as such and don’t come back in the hordes like they did pre Covid. Mostly rude, lacking manners and social skills and their practice of booking the best restaurants out and then not turning up made many restaurants wary of taking reservations from foreigners they didn’t know.

oh Blacklabel….its the weekend buddy, lighten up, no need to be SO angry and bitter all the time.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Put a name to this rubbish, Just throw BS out there and hope people will swallow it. At present if you ask the same question" Which government is the least trustworthy " to the average Chinese. The reply is China and a long second would be Japan.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Yet, they like to travel here and spend their money at baby stores purchasing formula and other baby supplies because for safety reasons and other products, too. So, if they don't like Japan and or the US they can stay home and lock themselves up in their own country and leave us alone.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I have to admit a degree of scepticism in the results of any survey or poll carried out in as tightly monitored oppressive dictatorship as the CCP’S China. Without evidence of how the pollsters ensured that the respondents were being truthful and not just parroting the party line out of justifiable fear the results have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Nonetheless I would be interested to see the other results, not because I think they would be any less doubtful but as a barometer of the CCP attitude to the other countries, be that as a direct control over the respondents or a product of the current propaganda programme.

As if you can trust survey coming from China. The better measure is, Chinese are still buying up Japanese make up products and diapers like mad. You can't dispute the result of people "voting" with their wallet.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Looks like they are getting a mirror image of what we are getting.

"You can't trust those guys over there! They are bad!"

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

In this new age does anyone still think that any economy can do without the others?? the world is all interconnected that NO ONE nation can go it alone or do it alone, the point is if China, Japan, The U.S. , the E.U., Russia or any major economy thinks it can it is fooling itself and it's people. as they say in Japanese. They will never return to China

Fightoo, Japanese occupation of other Asian, countries would surely endure Japanese

Japan was rated as having the least important relationship with China

How quickly they forget the billions in ODA and technological investment Japan poured into China from the 80s and 90s.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Chinese people aren't dumb. They know they are being lied to and they know truth is being hidden. If you lived in a society with social scores created and managed by the govt were the norm, you'd learn to answer any polls/questions in a pro-govt way, wouldn't you?

The CCP shows mainlanders all the bad outside the country, so of course they have a slanted view. Same for Japanese who have never traveled. If you look at the news of other countries, you only see a biased view with little ability to know what is 100% true and what isn't.

The CCP likes Russia, because Russia doesn't want to interfere with China's imperialistic goals and Russia doesn't point out all the wars and oppression that China has started since the CCP took over.

Average Chinese don't see the huge emigration of wealthy Chinese from China, for example. In 2022/2023, millionaire Chinese left China at the highest rate of every other country. India was 2nd. UK was third and Russia was forth. China, India, Russia make sense, but why the UK? I suspect it was mainly Russian Oligarchs leaving now that the UK isn't looking the other way for WHERE their money comes. https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2023/3/27/chinas-rich-flee-crackdowns-for-asias-switzerland-singapore

Again, the CCP will keep this mass migration out of China as a state secret. https://www.scmp.com/economy/china-economy/article/3224072/chinas-millionaires-keep-leaving-now-outflows-may-be-more-damaging-usual

Our authoritarian leader called their leader a dictator. That was stupid.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

That’s hysterical, but that’s how brainwashed they are, or at least that’s what their government says

3 ( +5 / -2 )

It’s that photo of the IJA soldier bayoneting a baby with a smile on his face while showing a fellow soldier. People have that unerasable image of the Japanese. The picture ought to be banned of all the censorship in China. Does no good to relive the horrors of the past.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The people actually know what the US neocons are doing and discuss geopolitics like the way Americans discuss the NBA or Major League Baseball.

For example, countries trading in non-dollar and in their own currency is one CCP move. The second move is Chinese banks make loans to Thailand in USD but requires payment to be paid back in yuan to send the dollar back to the U.S. people discuss these moves and responses but in the US, if you say de-dollarization, Americans will say De what?

China’s next move is another giving the US a taste of their own medicine like the Micron chips ban. China is planning to set up a new joint military training facility in Cuba which is a mere 100 miles away from Florida, which means that China could spy on military installations in the Southeastern U.S.

This is likely a response to the US involvement in Taiwan which is also about 100 miles away from China.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

No country "needs" China. There are plenty of alternatives. In contrast, China "needs" other countries to export to. China has no desire to go back to their 1980s economy.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Chinese don't have fixed political views. They bend easily to the winds and according to their own circumstances. If they are in China they may say they trust Xi Jinping even though they may be at the same time making plans to leave China; if they are in the US, they say they trust the US even while they may be doing things to benefit China secretly. They revise their beliefs and actions to be most advantageous to themselves and their families. Their socio-political system in China has trained them to think and behave this way, which is highly flexible and adaptable.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

No surprises here. China's indoctrination of their people has worked and is working. To maintain control over its people, China needs common enemies i.e. the U.S. and Japan. This will ensure control.

China's economy has deteriorated from the days of double-digit growth. National debt and real estate foreclosures have become commonplace. Without bankruptcy laws, many of its citizens have lost their homes but are still on the hook for the mortgages.

Mini-protests against the government are popping up across the country. Unemployment is at an all time high with major foreign companies leaving for neighboring countries. Recent college graduates can't find jobs.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

How unsurprising

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I doubt the majority of mainland Chinese know the name of the American president.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

so A dictator would make different rules for himself and his family/supporters while trying to abuse the Justice system to jail political rivals, right?

If that happened, but it didn't according to no other than the Trump-appointed prosecutor, who unlike the agents, actually makes charging decisions.

A better analogy for an authoritarian dictator would be one who lies about the results of a free and fair election that he obviously lost and then tries to incite an insurrection to overthrow the legally elected administration.

That's more like it.

Unfortunately for your lord and savior Stupid Voldemort, Jack Smith is coming, and he's brining justice with him.

What i find most hilarious and somewhat pathetic is the 700 military bases encircling China by the USA and yet the USA still feels threatened.

I thought China's largest military in the world was going to utterly destroy the US. Sounds like China's inferiority complex is what is pathetic.

Chinese think the usa is a joke

China's dog Russia is severely ill and in need of being put down. Doesn't sound like there is much room to consider the US a joke in any honest assessment.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Breaking News. Chinese citizenry has negative views on the country that is waging economic warfare on China and surrounds China with military bases.

The Senkaku/Diaoyutai issue cuts both ways. It's time to find a compromise and move on.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

First, peace & coexistence should and must be the believe by all, to live in harmony in today's world environmental, economical, political, and social conditions; that said, 3 or 4 decades or so ago USA&Japan survived quite well when China closed its contact with free democratic countries so there is no reason why we can't survive again w/o China. But again, now that China becomes a major global player we all have to work together to build trust and cooperation instead of compete as to who rules the world. Love and be loved, y'all.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Shocking, because the CCP is completely transparent and doesn’t engage in propaganda.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

is the definition of "trustworthy" in China trustworthy?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@nukkuheddo That would be one of the Confucian virtues, 信. Chinese were debating ethics and morality a millennium before recorded history in Japan.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The national online and telephone survey was led by Reza Hasmath, professor of political science at the Canadian university, and conducted in cooperation with a survey firm in China.

This last line above explains quite clearly why it should not be trusted. The Chinese government is watching!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@wallace - 2,000 people polled out of 1.4 billion is not even an accurate poll.

That's not how it works. For example, if an experiment consists of flipping a coin 1000 times, the experimatal result will be within 450-550 heads for about 99.7% of such experiments.

Most polls work with about 1000 subject, and put more effort into trying make sure the sample set is truly random - that's the hard part, making sure there is no undo bias.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

undo -- undue

Wish there was an undo function.

Someone once said " In order to be Human, you have to treat other people like Human being. "

All these negative comments about China and the Chinese people are just a reflection of who you are, the more respect you show towards other the more they will respect you.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

As soon as I read the survey was carried out using a local company I knew the statistics would be wrong. As many have said if the US and Japan are the most untrustworthy why are Chinese paying thousands to fly to Central America to try and enter the US through the Southern border? And so many are coming to Japan to work and live? Come on, use common sense.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Conducted by a Canadian university …..loss credibility as soon as it said…conducted with a survey firm in China…… LMAO….

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I read the title as "at least trustworthy" and thought I was going to read a feel good article about people connecting with each other despite their government's problems with each other.

Oops!!

Is the same true of the Chinese people who receive news mocking the drug and gun crisis in America rather than issues that should be of importance at home?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I had the unfortunate experience of watching a video on YT yesterday posted by a Chinese person, showing what is happening in state run private Chinese schools. What the young children, from 3/4 upwards are taught is revolting and hideous. They are even given full size military weapons to practice with, and are shown how to bayonet people of other races. The hatred on these young faces for any one foreign was indescribable. And do you want to know which 2 foreign races most of this hat was aimed at, one was the USA, obviously, the other was.......well, you have guessed right.
