The Republican governor is expected to announce a run for the GOP presidential nomination this week.

DeSantis culture war shtick has a long history but it is yet to be seen if this can be a path to the Presidency lacking the Trump glamour.

The RINOS in Floridian boomer communities may not care if tourism by certain ethnicities goes down, but some may if it affects their investments.

A conundrum for DeSantis

Florida: Come for the meth!

Stay for the white nationalism!

The RINOS in Floridian boomer communities may not care if tourism by certain ethnicities goes down,

Really? Lol

Florida’s tourism agency Visit Florida estimated a record 37.9 million travelers into the state during the first quarter of 2023. First-quarter tourism into Florida was up 6.7 percent from a year ago, with overseas visitors still under pre-COVID-19 figures, according to a release from the governor’s office Friday.

Liberals can try what they want, but they lost Florida and they know they’re not getting it back as the influx into that state continues

but some may if it affects their investments

Not a lot.

Saw some of my best sunsets in Florida.

There’s also the business investment and jobs-killing government policies.

Im sure the rest of the country is looking at that and saying “No thanks. We’re good.”

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Of course there’s the exclusionary homophobia…

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I consider all of the US to have insane and concerning gun laws.

If you only went on holiday to places where you agreed with local and national government policies, you wouldn't get to see much of the world. And I wouldn't be able to return home, as my local council is Tory.

I visited thinking it would be similar to my home state of California.

Instead, I found it is much more akin to Georgia.

It is after all a Southern State, love Georgia by the way, great people, and great food.

Well, if you like greasy fried food. Been there, done that. Not going back.

NAACP has become a joke organization when they put out nonsensical statements like this.

We'll see how attached to Florida they remain when they are constantly questioned about their immigration status, what they are doing, are they helping an illegal immigrant ( a family member perhaps or close friend which has just become illegal to do ), pulled over and profiled by the police, etc.

Read the history surrounding the 1994 California ballot initiative Proposition 187. It wasn't much different from what Florida just instituted, though the courts never let California enforce most of it because it was mostly unconstitutional. It sent Latinos running to register to gain their citizenship, register to vote and drive Republicans out of office. There were other reasons to run the Repubes out, like their annual budget hostage taking. So if history is any guide Mr. DeSantis many have a pyrrhic victory on his hands just like Pete Wilson did.

same people who criticized DeSantis all last week will be the first ones this week to tell me in glowing terms why he will "obviously" be the Republican nominee for 2024.

Have you realized yet that he has zero chance and that the 2024 is going to be 45, who is going to be 47?

Another legitimate poll (Harvard/Harris) has 45 beating Biden by 7 points and Kamala Harris by 11.

DeSantis? tied with Kamala(!!??) and losing to Biden.

So he is fine for Florida, just hold that down until 2028.

NAACP has become a joke organization when they put out nonsensical statements like this.

this sure seems to be a pattern with you.

“Taken in their totality, Florida’s slate of laws and policies targeting basic freedoms and rights pose a serious risk to the health and safety of those traveling to the state,” Equality Florida's advisory said.

basic freedoms and rights that you only thought you had. Because as Blacklabel informs us, if it can be taken away, it was never a “right” to begin with.

thumbs up for the brand ambassador.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

yeah sure!

So what "freedoms and rights" were taken away from Black people in Florida that led to this new narrative from the NAACP? please be specific.

Because as a Florida man, I think I have the same rights and freedoms I have always had.

Florida under DeSantis is under a state of war...

War on a women's reproductive freedom....

War on minorities right to vote...

War on the LBGTQ community...

War on your right to read what you want...

And lastly, war on an animated cartoon figure...

It's vying with Texas on winning the state "Most Admired by the Taliban" award...

2 ( +4 / -2 )

No thanks, Blacklabel. I’ll just take your word for it that the NAACP is making this all up.

Civil rights groups warn tourists about Florida in wake of 'hostile' laws

Nothing illegal.

This is woke-reactionary hyperbolizing in action.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Well if something really is a right or a freedom there are laws and courts as remedies to have those restored.

if there is no law and no court rules that it’s your right to do or have something , then guess what? It’s just something you want to have but can’t.

can always move to a blue state that suits you better.

And to top it off, censorship from kindergarten all the way through the undergraduate level!

No need to learn the actual history or the actual circumstances of others who don’t have the same perspective! That might make someone uncomfortable!

This will create plenty of openings for the unlearned and the obtuse as qualified educators flee the state.

At the university, this will have a negative effect on what were previously perfectly mediocre state universities.

same people who criticized DeSantis all last week will be the first ones this week to tell me in glowing terms why he will "obviously" be the Republican nominee for 2024.

Criticized DeSantis? You mean the guy that called his fight with Disney a "political stunt" and a "disaster"? Who said that DeSantis has turned Florida into "one of the worst states in the US"? Who accused him of "grooming high school girls?"

So are those accurate or is that person lying?

Have you realized yet that he has zero chance and that the 2024 is going to be 45, who is going to be 47?

Only if that is his cell number at Rikers Island...

Florida lawmakers are “openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color

Oh well....No change there.....america has always been like that, ......probably the most racist country in the world.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

It is after all a Southern State, love Georgia by the way, great people, and great food.

Every state has their own issues and crazy wingers. Florida is mostly a southern state with pockets of Hispanics/Cubans near Miami and around Disney/Orlando, lots of LGBT+ folks.

I stay at the same gay-owned hotel in Orlando in my yearly trips there for professional conferences. I'm not gay, but they are nice people and treat everyone with respect, fun, and are very welcoming.

DeSantis is broken in the head. I can think of only 1 worse candidate for President. Sadly, the GOP has lots their way and the right wing crazies have taken over the party for the worse. The GOP needs to flush all the liars out. Until they do that, I'll hold my nose and vote for any alternative, regardless of party.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

So tell me a right or freedom that has been taken away from Black people that is so heinous that no Black people should even travel there because it’s so dangerous.

you cant.

Im an early 50’s white guy. I’ll let the NAACP speak for themselves, thank you.

it ain’t my place to tell them they are full of it.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Florida under DeSantis is under a state of war...

For people that hold on to every word of far left wing media, Twitter and Reddit.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

it ain’t my place to tell them they are full of it.

so then it’s also not your place to criticize me when I say they are wrong and that no rights or freedoms for Black people have changed.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

it ain’t my place to tell them they are full of it.

You confuse deference with a lack of freedom of expression rights (Shocker!)

Fortunately, we have both a self-appointed Hall Monitor AND a fascist-curious Meme specialist to interpret the appropriateness of what the NAACP says for all of us.

Whew, that was lucky. I don't know how we would have gotten by otherwise....

0 ( +1 / -1 )

So it’s “deference” now when you cant answer what rights and freedoms were taken away?

not that none actually were, and it’s a BS claim, huh?

he made the claim, can’t back it up with facts.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Would you like to try on his behalf?

what rights and freedoms do Black people not have in Florida that would call for the NAACP to tell Black people to not even travel there?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Thats two of you who had to walk it back or “defer”.

Anyone else?

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Let’s go John Calhoun! Tell us all about what a positive good it is for Ron DeSantis to decide what black folk in Florida can think about their history!

whoa, i accidentally answered you!

White guy Ron decides which version of Black history is allowed to be taught in Florida. And he’s very proud of it.

how’s that for a fact?

or maybe we can just revert to NAACP making it all up?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Thats two of you who had to walk it back or “defer”.

Anyone else?

To be clear, I didn't walk back or defer anything.

I merely said it was more fun to watch you make an utter fool of yourself.

By all means, continue.
