Tell that to Seagram's Canadian Whiskey. Seems to me they didnt get your "memo".

I don’t remember sending out a “memo”…. Maybe the original Mr. Seagram was of Irish ancestry? As the sleepy one says, there are always exceptions.

Why would the "international community" be outraged by them moving Russian children out of a war zone?

And who made it a war zone in the first place?

If putin killed his own parents you’d probably let him off on account of him being an orphan.

If he were really concerned about the safety of children in a war zone, how about he pull his troops out, cease bombing the place and stop it being a war zone?

an arrest by the ICC would be a face saving way to get rid of a problem for a possible new Russian leader. Stranger things have happened

It's a possibility and personally I would love to see Mad Vlad the Abductor of Children standing in the dock at the ICC, but I feel having the previous leader hauled up to face international justice would be a step too far for whoever comes next.

And 14th floor windows have become such a cliche; my money is on the Gremlin succumbing to a short illness; shortness of breath from sudden lung failure, a sudden heart attack, a fatal stroke, massive organ failure, sudden drop in blood pressure, convulsions. Probably after enjoying an intimate dinner with close colleagues (Yes, I know, he doesn't have any colleagues; underlings).

Novichok, ricin, polonium; I'm sure whoever is powerful enough to knock the tzar off his throne will have the connections to be able to obtain at least one if not a cocktail. and experience in their use.

Whisky is what they make in Scotland, Canada, Japan and most other places that produce this type of distilled liquor.

Whiskey is what they make in the US and Ireland, probably because it was the Irish who took the distilling process to the US; though some US distillers do call their product whisky. In fact the US best seller last year according to Drinks International is Maker's Mark; a quick look at the label tells us it's whisky.

Bowmore is my personal favourite, though I won't turn my nose up at a good Japanese whisky.

This is a clever way of getting people to taste a 'veggan' sandwich that they would normally avoid

Dunno about 'veggans', but no vegan or vegetarian is going to eat anything with ham in it.

I thought the days of 'if it isn't a steak, it must be vegetarian' were long past, but it seems I was wrong.

If they choose to be irrational that is their problem

Who is ‘they’?

The seafood businesses?

They aren’t choosing to be anything, they’re having their product rendered unsellable through no fault of their own.

They’re soon-to-be ex-customers? They have no problem, there is plenty of other stuff to eat.

TEPCO chose to be irrational when they built a nuclear reactor on the Ring of Fire and put the cooling apparatus in the basement, and that’s everybody’s problem.

How dare civilians simply use a bridge at 3am! Got what they deserved, right?

Like the civilians who dared to sleep in their own beds at night and got bombed?

Like the civilians who had their heating and water cut off in the middle of a freezing winter?

Like the civilians trying to evacuate who got blown out of their vehicles?

But out of curiosity, what was a family with a child doing on a military bridge in a war zone in the middle of the night?

Oh dear. How terrible.

Two blasts, and the bridge is still standing?

Word is that two people were killed and a child injured and taken to hospital. Can’t rejoice over that.

But the bridge needs to be hit again, it seems.

My weekly grocery delivery man turned up this morning apologizing for dripping sweat everywhere. I suggested he take off his mask, and he told me the company insists they wear masks when out in public, regardless of the temperature. The poor man was literally gasping for breath. I told him to take the mask off while he made my delivery.

i walk my dog about the same time. I walked one time a 11am and my shoes broke. The road was so hot I got blistered walking bare foot

Imagine what it does to the pooch’s paws. Always check the temperature of the roadway before taking the dog out, and as much as possible try to walk him in the shade.

(two) Putin gets kicked...

Posted in: Ukraine repels large Russian missile and drone attack in Kyiv region See in context

prove one thing i said to try and gain appeasement ?

FYI iam not looking for appeasement !

There are two ways in which this war can end.

Ukraine stops fighting, rolls on its back and lets russia take over all or part of its land. If russia is allowed to keep part of the land, it will regroup and come back for more in a few years' time. Russia will do its best (or its worst) to eliminate all pro-Ukrainian civilians left in the occupied areas.

In the meantime, Ukrainian partisans will work to undermine the occupation in any way they can. Remember Ukrainians can pass as russians, they will be able to wreak havoc in Moscow and St Petersburg just as easily as in occupied Ukraine.

Putin gets kicked out of Ukraine with his tail between his legs and while he's licking his wounds (and probably fighting off an internal coup, staying well away from windows and being careful what he eats and drinks) Ukraine becomes a fully-fledged member of NATO and thus immune to any further attacks from its belligerent neighbour.

The only way to stop further harm to innocent civilians is to defang russia.

Posted in: Ukraine repels large Russian missile and drone attack in Kyiv region See in context

Don't harm anymore innocent civilians and stop the war in Ukraine.

It's at minus thirteen.

There are obviously more people that want the war to continue and Don't care about civilians .

No, there are more people who understand that appeasement will save no innocent lives. The only way to stop the war is to get russian troops out of Ukraine and stop russian missiles and drones attacking Ukrainian cities.

No one wants the war to stop more than the Ukrainians.

If downvotes upset you, maybe try not pushing so hard for appeasement/capitulation.

why your challenging my not wanting anymore innocent civilians to be harmed is baffling.

Why you imagine no more innocent civilians will be harmed if russia is allowed to prevail (which is what happens if Ukraine stops fighting) is truly baffling.

You've seen what happened to civilians in areas occupied by russia.

Posted in: Ukraine wins G7 security pledges but NATO membership remains elusive See in context

Putin would essentially have veto power over Ukraine’s NATO membership by prolonging the conflict.

Exactly.

Better to set a clear date, say three or six months in the future, on which Ukraine will become a full member of NATO. That gives putin due warning and plenty of time to withdraw his criminal conscripts before he finds himself face to face with the big boys. His choice.

This will not instigate a nuclear war, because putin is not the only one with his finger on the button, and not even his underlings are stupid enough to obliterate themselves and their families for the sake of the tzar's ego.

*Russia will not allow NATO encroachment on their border** in such a large country. The country will be neutral, wrecked into a basketcase and/or dismembered.*

That is one of the key goals of the SMO

Yes, the 'key goal' that brought neutral Finland into NATO, with a longer land border with russia than Ukraine has.

the LPR/DPR militia forces are fighting with uncommon reserve and vigour as they are in quite literally fighting for their lives

Because if they don't fight the barrier troops stationed behind them kill them.

What exactly do you mean by "recycling"?

Well, it's been used once to cool down the reactor. Why can't it be used again to cool down the reactor? If it can be treated to make it safe to release into the ocean, safe enough to drink even, isn't it safe to recycle through the reactor, multiple times?

And those who oppose the plan should be asked to come with a viable alternative.

Why is recycling the water not a viable alternative?

Russia's invasion of Ukraine was started by Russia invading Ukraine...because...

...because Putler surrounded himself with yesmen who let him think it would be a walk in the park, Ukrainians would welcome russian troops with hugs and flowers, there would be a victory parade in Kyiv within a week.

...because Putler never got over the loss of the Soviet Union and thought it was his destiny to recreate it.

...because Putler had no intention of sticking to the agreements that obliged him to respect and protect Ukraine's sovereignty.

....because Putler is a lying weasly wannabe tzar.

show Putin he got nothing out of his war.

Better still, show him he got a bloody nose and a black eye.

Cluster bombs folks. Yep, those illegal bombs. The peaceful warmongering NATO fans must be, well, ignoring it as usual.

It's mentioned in every single news report on BBC World.

Personally I find the idea of their use very, very disturbing; but as TaiwanIsNotChina points out, moscow has been using them regularly since the beginning of the invasion. In civilian areas, on civilian targets. Near residential buildings. Hospitals. Schools. Kindergartens. Children's playgrounds.

Ukraine has vowed not to use the weapon on moscovite territory, on moscovite civilians.

Using cluster munitions to clear the moscovite 'defences' in temporarily-occupied areas of Ukraine - that I think I can live with. If the moscovite troops object to their use, they can go and complain to the Gremlin in the Kremin.

That book was all about losing weight and staying regular, and it's good to have the extra info here about the other health benefits of a high-fibre diet.

There will always be a small amount of flat-earthers out there who follow baseless rumours. They are welcome to import seafood from the Atlantic or Mediterranean if it concerns them.

True enough. Though that doesn’t help the local fishermen.

Unless they get into the imported seafood industry, and I don’t imagine many of them are experienced in that area.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Posted in: Fishermen concerned over IAEA saying Fukushima water release is safe See in context

These fishermen should stop fuelling unfounded rumours. None of them are scientists, so what qualifications do they have?

The people who buy their catch and will likely not buy their catch after the water is released are not scientists, either.

And no amount of persuasion from scientists is likely to reassure them.

I'm not sure how much the writer knows about Ukraine,

I’m sure he knows, as we all do,, that Ukraine was attacked without provocation by a wannabe tzar who knew so little about Ukraine he thought he could take the whole country in a matter of days. The tzar obviously didn’t know much about Ukraine.

this is the man who has literally banned opposition parties and suspended elections.

You’re surely referring to Putin: the man (for want of a better word) who poisons the opposition and when they refuse to die, throws them in prison on trumped up charges or encourages them to jump out of a high window: who has his state goons beat up and imprison those who call a war a war, or who dare express opposition to his war: who holds ‘referenda’ after expelling the majority of the legitimate population, and requires those remaining to vote with armed troops watching over them.

The man who literally invaded a sovereign neighbour, who sent criminals from his prisons to loot, rape and slaughter innocent people, who blew up a dam endangering the lives of thousands, who has mined a major nuclear power plant, is withdrawing troops and plant personnel from the area and ordering those remaining to claim Ukraine dunnit when an ‘emergency situation’ occurs.
