Just heard that Barry Humphries has passed away.
I saw him at the Palais Theatre (next to Luna Park)
In about 1972.
He is best known for Dame Edna and was kicked off American TV for her.
However, I will always remember Sandy Stone.
A returned serviceman sitting on a porch in a deckchair reminiscing.
Quite, calm and straight to the heart.
Goodbye Sandy.

Moonraker
I used to like Sir Les Patterson. Totally politically incorrect but, of course, he was playing a character and only those who agreed with the prejudices he espoused or those who were outraged by them (including the woke and those Australians who didn't like Australia caricatured this way) would really take it/him seriously.

It still is in many ways. If you're not into sport, you're a loser in the Australian psyche. Only the talented genius of Humphries could point it out in the best way possible - satire. Good night possums.

Barry Humphries Alter ego 'Dame Edna Everage' had a unique ability, comic skill, to lampoon, gently mock and satirize to the point of creating an uproarious tv presence.
Just two examples...

An amazing character and one of Australia's best exports.

This is very sad news. Dame Edna was one of the most brilliant characters ever created.

RIP to a comedy legend. Besides the incomparable Dame Edna, he was a hoot in Finding Nemo.

A favorite of the queen.

"Utterly bleak”, said Germaine, of that vanished Australia she so eagerly decamped from when opportunity came. Be careful what you wish for.

Rest in Peace Barry, you were one of a kind.

A Straight Drag-Artist Comedian - is a rarity in itself, and sort of laughs back at the Stereotype one would assume him to be.
Will be missed by many.

Sir Les, wow what an ambassador for the ozi,s it's completely cringeworthy, but still funny, Barry's sharp whit was ledgendery, Dame Edna got away with murder on her interviews, any one else would have been highly offended, in this boring PC world we live in, Barry just got on with it, it's a shame that he's gone, rip Barry....your a ripper mate!

Gotta love Humphries.
When dressing up as the other gender wasn't done with woke undertones.

Extremely funny chap, Les and Edna were my favourite of his characters. Remember Edna being in evening TV sooooo many times was I was little, my father thought he was hilarious.
Terribly sad of course and we will never see his type appear from Australia or anywhere and be popular anymore, too many would be offended and he would more likely be cancelled.
