Hollywood actors join screenwriters in historic industry-stopping strike as contract talks collapse

Hollywood needs an overhaul anyway. Been pretty disappointed with many Hollywood movies these past 10 years. Bring in new blood and a stop to the millions of sequels/remakes and superhero movies.

The company executives get paid too much, as do the top couple of tiers of actors and actresses which starves those at the bottom from getting reasonable pay.

It takes everyone working together to bring stories to life in movies and television, but all too often the forgotten little people are trodden all over and ripped off for their hard work while others get pampered and payed millions and then get years of royalty payments as well.

Stop over paying selected people and reduce the cost of movies and get more people into cinema's.

Terrible timing to go on strike. Some of these companies aren't doing so good at the moment and are currently trying to cut cost. Having a strike will only worsen the situation and give the companies a reason to get rid of their work forces.

Who cares. They've produced nothing but garbage for the past 20 years.

A combination of risk-averse studio executives and the unavoidable fact that most people have quite infantile taste has brought us to the current creative desert.

As someone who loves music, I am aware that there is a huge amount of talent out there but the algorithms means most people don't hear / see them so are therefore not rewarded financially.

These are the key issues. Essentially, compensation and loss of identity and jobs.

Digital streaming has not compensated the actors properly, meaning the money issue of working has not kept up with inflation nor proportionally kept up with how actors makes money. The rich are getting richer, but the workers are getting less with less power to do something about it.

Streaming has given studios more power than they have had over actors pay issues and weakness to negotiate since probably the 50/60's. It's been an evolving system, and the actors want to balance out the payment for work and have some legal rights to their work, of which streaming has muddied the waters.

AI is dangerous because of things like deep fakes can place a face onto digital creation. The digital world was bound to create problems with humanity, and this is a case where AI is praised by some, but it'll control humanity in the future, pretty much, without doubt. For actors, the problem is they can be eliminated by AI, and it's not just acting, AI is a threat to many, many fields and people, and will get worse.

This strike is very important to the entire spectrum of actors, and for the lesser actors more than the high end performers, who often get producer roles to enhance their pay.

Who cares! Nothing but far left progressives who live in their own little bubble.

The only two non-woke movies are “Top Gun; Maverick” and this new one “Sound of Freedom”

All kid's movies, so admittedly I have only seen a couple out of the top 25, but not a surprise.

I guess if you look for woke, you can find it anywhere, but the data suggests anyone complaining about woke garbage has been watching children's movies.

Yup. I've been away in and out for almost 20 years, and I feel that I haven't missed much with good movies. I've been mostly watching either reruns or old films, that are mostly better than today's movies.

Strong female leads, however badly written, are popular in the Chinese market.

Ah yes. The expert on the Chinese market. Yet both Little Mermaid and Dial of Destiny featuring badly written, strong female leads and both tanked in China. Even the recent Mulan, based on a Chinese character played by a Chinese actor, underperformed badly in China.

Does this mean that I need to wait to see FAST AND FURIOUS 22 or MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 10?

Never take advice from somebody who gets paid millions to remember a few lines.

It’s PG-13. It means if you’re 13 yrs and under, your parents needs to accompany you because you’re a child. If you’re 14 and over you can go by yourself so you’re no longer a child. PG-13 restricts children from going alone.

Have you ever heard of puberty? It means physically you can reproduce. These aren’t children anymore.

PG-13 aren’t children’s movies. Rated-G are.

So you have been getting angry at teenager movies. Still legally children but it obviously bothers you that movies made for humans who cannot legally do most things are not made for you. A grown adult. I presume.

Americans have decades of top quality Kdrama to explore. Enjoy.

What they complain about is something every other employee always suffers by common sense. They had privileges in paying no one else in economy has. For example they want some money for every time when a movie they starred is shown. But we? If we for example write computer program code, then we are paid only that one time, not when we quit the company and not when the program is sold even after ten years. Or the voice actor example with AI, they speak their part in every sequel of a drama series and get paid every time for months. Now they read only three pages of text and an AI generates the whole rest of the talking for that drama, so that they complain about being paid only once now. That’s what every car designer always suffers, being paid only once, for that design, not for every car sold that look like his design. Similar in a bread factory for example, the employee is only paid for the time present, not for every single bread he made the dough for and which is produced or baked automatically afterwards when he already has left the factory. I understand that they want to keep their luxury conditions and extraordinary generous privileges, but that’s not how it normally works everywhere else in economy.

Meanwhile talented people producing quality entertainment in many other countries of the world are cheering, streaming services means some of them will now get a chance to convince the public to stop depending so much on Hollywook.
