An employee at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Nagoya found a decaying body on Tuesday, police said Wednesday.

According to police, the corpse, whose gender and age are as yet undetermined, was found at around 3:25 p.m. in a forest area of the park, Kyodo News reported.

Staff at Higashiyama Zoo and police said the body was on a slope near a pathway where anyone can walk without paying an entrance fee. A park visitor reported a strange odor to an employee who found the body.

Police said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

OMG! how could nobody notice this before? How incredibly ghastly for the poor employee who had to see the deceased

Why is this classed as a crime then JT?

Police said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Who is saying it is a crime? Apart from you, that is.

JT is, considering that it is the CRIME section.

I guess if you're going to die and start decaying, a botanical garden seems to be a good of a place as any.

Wow I walk that area all the time.

How terrible for both parties.

A park visitor reported a strange odor?

I think a park visitor found a body and didn't want any involvement. I'm jotting this one down for what to do if I find a body in Japan. That's next level thinking there. Call someone and say "it smells really bad over here, someone on the clock should probably check it out."

I know where you're going with this point and I thought the same. Why would a stranger notify a park employee of a "strange odor" when most people would've just ignored it as they've apparently been for awhile?

Probably because nobody who investigated thinks it was an accident.

If they can't tell the sex of the body, it must've been there for a few weeks to a month and possibly stage 3 of decomposition which is active decay or stage four which is skeletonitation.
