Do you ever worry that robots or AI will become so powerful one day that they will destroy humans? Or does that only happen in movies?

I'm not worrying about anything as I won't be alive that time. Just enjoying the present. Life is too short to worry about things.

The failure modalities of humanity are as diverse as we are..We might do ourselves in, or AI may be corrupted by basic human failings.

One could be runaway capitalist Econ 2.0 decides the matter of the inner rocky planets would be better served to be converted into computronium and a Matrioshka brain constructed around the Sun.

Self driving cars seem to be killing and inuring many people already.

Sure I do. It's a machine prison that is being created, not necessarily because any people have that in mind, but because the machine mind wants to control and micro-manage.

Humans have corrupted every invention.

You must feel very carefree to have no stake in the future at all.

Why worry when politicians are way ahead of AI on this.

Yeah, I really worry about all those potential naked Arnold Schwarzeneggers coming through their wormholes. Kinda feel sorry for them, tbh.

Robots will be trained by the billionaire class to do their biddings, don't worry about the robots, worry about the humans training them.

Quit worrying about AI. Humanity will wipe itself out in wars or cook its climate past survivability long before any SciFi stuff happens. We may have already passed the event horizon for a climate meltdown, so enjoy whatever is left. There have been mass extinctions before. Roaches and weeds will survive and life will eventually return to the planet.

I am more worried of humans destroying humans, and that worry has been going on for ages but humans still survive.

Not really. We are in a cycle that repeats endlessly. I wouldn't be surprised if life as we know it was made by AI in the last cycle and we will repeat.

we're not there yet. AI right now is still confined to secretarial tasks like chat gpt. we should be concerned if AI-operated security assets are introduced. imagine a reaper drone armed with missiles deciding to hit innocent civilians. once we're at that stage, we should worry.

While the takeover may not be immediately apparent, we are gradually becoming willing participants in surrendering our minds, thoughts, and decisions to AI. Just observe the ubiquitous sight of people fixated on their screens; it is evident that we have already relinquished a significant portion of our consciousness to mindless and soulless distractions. Encouraging my students to detach from their phones during class has become a recurring challenge; they seem inseparable from their devices, almost addicted. As AI continues to advance, it will inevitably be the next natural progression, and we will embrace it willingly.
