The guy should have done this in Hokkaido, he might have gotten a cop's gun from the bathroom.

@ mountaingrill,

True about the lights coming down the mountain. I live in Yamanakako and can see them from my balcony.

Posted in: Japan university exams begin with stricter rules to prevent cheating See in context

Cheating on tests have been around as long as there have been tests. In the West it is pretty much common knowledge that if you cheat on the test it will come back to bite you later. If you didn't know the material at the start, you will never keep up with the class. In Japan, however, getting accepted is the whole battle. Sit back for 4 years, show up for lectures sometimes and walk out with a degree.

I said it before and I'll say it again, suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

I wish she had gotten some help before it came to this. My heart goes out to her family.

I don't believe someone actually blamed it on the car!

What about responsibility?

The world should make things that completely absolve me of responsibility.

I'm sorry but where the hell was a 2 year old riding in a car where you didn't notice her.

Had to search his car to find her?

Does nobody else find this a little strange?

North Korea successfully knocked the first two innings of world series game 4 off the NHK broadcast,. Assuming that was their purpose.

Posted in: 2 die in vehicle collision in Hokkaido after car hits deer See in context

I live in yamanakako mura, just today on my walk in saw a herd of 10 deer not 200 yards from my house. When they are moving, they only go forward, they never stop or backup if they sense trouble.

Around this time of year, the deer outnumber the people up here.

Locals know to keep constant lookout and drive slow but tourists are clueless.

"Seen playing with friends"

Was there adult supervision at all.

Easy to blame the parents (as many on this site do).

Casting stones.

I, myself, feel for the parents, nobody expects things this, I'm sure they are punishing themselves enough, they don't need people who have no knowledge of the incident to berate them.

Posted in: Israeli charged with smuggling drugs into Japan dies in detention center See in context

I see where it says he was arrested and charged but it doesn't say anything about a conviction.

I still believe in innocent until proven guilty so calling him a drug dealer is a bit premature.

Anyway, he should have had adequate health treatment while in detention.

Mr. Kim needs to Google Ohio Class Submarine. 240 independently targeted warheads from one submarine parked a couple hundred miles of your coast. By the way, there's more than one parked there.

Posted in: 'Unprecedented' super typhoon approaches southern Japan See in context

To all who think a "super typhoon" is just another typhoon you are sadly mistaken.

I went through super typhoon Paka on Guam in 1997. You cannot believe the destructive power of on of these monsters.

It snapped coconut palms in half, it lifted a 30 ton catamaran in the bay and the 70 foot mast cleared the water and deposited it 200 yards onshore. It crushed an oil storage tank like a beer can.

Do not underestimate the power of nature.

Hopefully it will not make direct landfall on heavily populated areas.

This is from personal, first hand experience.

Well a little hard to tell from the photo but must modern Diesel powered railway engines are diesel/electric. The diesel engine drives a huge generator which supplies power to electric motor drive wheels.

Posted in: Prosecutors arrest ex-member of Tokyo Olympic committee, others for bribery See in context

@ Laguna;

The '84 Olympics went to Los Angeles because they were supposed to be held in Teheran, but the revolution in Iraq made that impossible. The only other city in the world who could hold the games with less than two years notice was L.A.

Multiple professional sports venues, UCLA and USC dorms for athletes and medical centers.

There was no other choice.

Posted in: Prosecutors arrest ex-member of Tokyo Olympic committee, others for bribery See in context

These Tokyo games have been the death knell for the Olympics from the scandals regarding the awarding of the Olympics to Tokyo, the scandals regarding the New Olympic stadium (dropping the original design and overworking laborers), copyright violation of the original logo, moving the venues away from Tokyo (when the original bid promised that all events would be within 10km of the Olympic village). The list goes on and on and on.

So Paris hosts the next Olympics because of the bribery that brought the 2020 games to Tokyo. Los Angeles gets the games after that because of the Paris retribution.

The games are a joke now.

Accidents happened, this is tragic and heartbreaking, but to beat up on the parents is cruel, I think they are beating up on themselves enough right now. Miscommunication, "I thought you were watching him." "I thought you were watching him."

To blame the building is ludicrous.

How about a little sympathy people!

You and your friends are all in the middle of a mine field. Everyone stop moving and stay right where you are. Wait 6 weeks, guess what? You are still in the middle of a mine field.

This thing is not going to end until there is" herd immunity" either by way of vaccinations or infection by contact.

Sheltering is just the same as hunkering down in the mine field as long as there is one contagious person out there.
