Infront already holds Olympic broadcast rights in sub-Saharan Africa and is a long-time partner of FIFA and winter sports. The agency has been run for 18 years by Philippe Blatter, a nephew of former FIFA president and IOC member Sepp Blatter. It was bought in 2015 by Chinese corporation Wanda.

swapping one old boys club for another?

It's a start, but the Japanese government has to cut ties and investigate them and prosecute as necessary!

Dentsu has always been too powerful and power leads to corruption.

The International Olympic Committee said Thursday it has awarded exclusive rights for four Olympics from 2026 to 2032 to the Switzerland-based, Chinese-owned sports marketing agency Infront.

Telling that the only real consequences for dentsu corruption come from foreign sources.

And it must be a massive loss of face and influence to lose out to a Chinese-owned firm.

It is doubtful than things will be less corrupt and more aboveboard than at dentsu, but it is a change in the landscape.

What about Mori?

18 ( +20 / -2 )

Haha, does anyone believe that? They are of course much too big to be declared out.

Should be in prison

What about Mori?

Its a start

Now lets start rounding up the Dentsu execs and put them behind bars.

Ouch, Ouch, Ouch, this really hurts not only Dentsu but Japan.

I hope this will be the last lesson for Corporate Japan, the Corrupt old ways of doing business era is OVER. Do it clean and transparent and the rewards are much better in the long run.

The scandals in Japan led to the withdrawal of Sapporo’s candidacy to host the 2030 Winter Olympics, which it had been favored to win."

Wasn't it only " postponed" instead of outright cancelled?

From Dentsu to China. Out of the frying pan into the fire.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

The IOC is just as corrupt as Dentsu. The whole Olympic process is an incestuous quagmire of greed.

I wonder if you would be saying that if it were a western company?

The 22-market Asian deal includes Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Taiwan and Vietnam, but not China, Japan or South Korea.

In other words, the small fish.

I wonder if you would be saying that if it were a western company?

Yes. Of course I would.

I wonder why you think I wouldn't....

Really? Surprised no one has commented on this..... ''

This is so funny. Dentsu DID the corruption WITH IOC. I guess this is punishment for pleading guilty.

Nevertheless, Dentsu had too much power. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Where are the Dentsu officials in detention?

There aren’t any!

Corruption in Japan is solved with a deep bow and numerous ‘gomen nasais’

Don’t expect any gaol terms

Anyone wonder if Dentsu votes LDP? Perhaps in the fine print of the contracts, all employee votes are automatically converted to LDP as well.

Jokes aside, if they are bribing the olympics, what would stop them from bribing the government to avoid jail? Do you honestly think we'd hear about it if that was the case? Not until LDP loses, at least.

We just had a story about a poor Vietnamese kid arrested for cutting hair, yet these corpo clowns have complete freedom alongside their corruption.

It'd be fantastic if Dentsu went bankrupt.

••••• and that's how the Chinese take over the world -inch by inch, piece by piece... They already hold key ports through contracts, have holdings in Europe, etc. You'd be surprised at the number of firms, based in some other nations, but owned by Chinese. There's no stopping them.

Way to go rooting out corruption there by handing everything over to Sepp Blatter’s nephew. Definitely everything will be clean from now on /s

Lots of innocent people will lose their jobs only for the elites to probably go unscathed. The pawns who have been busting their all, working till literal death will suffer the most. Hopefully the name value of Dentsu will give those people some credit when applying for other jobs.

Anyone wonder if Dentsu votes LDP?

Willing to bet the family jewels it does- and probably donates to their campaign too.

Perhaps in the fine print of the contracts, all employee votes are automatically converted to LDP as well.

Honestly, it would not surprise me in the least.

My dog is probably the only thing in the world that’s not corrupt.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Don't know much about politics, esp of countries not my own, but would it be correct to assume all of these bribery scandals and charges are only coming out and happening because Abe died?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

A step in the right direction but it's also the pot calling the kettle black. One of the most corrupt organizations in the world is the IOC. So what do they do? They tie-up with China. Uh huh. Maybe Dentsu was just too much in the news and the IOC likes their corrupt partners to be a bit more low-key.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Finally something of real consequence happening to Dentsu because of theri actions. Unfortunately the rights just changed hands from one corrupt company to another, at least the people in Sapporo will not have their taxes used to support Dentsu (and others) thanks to the scandals.

DENTSU is the one that controls the narratives that set Japanese people's minds. Although not everyone is gullible enough to believe their narrative, the vast majority still get led by Dentsu's wave of information or misinformation.

As usual, leave it to the international community to dole out REAL punishment while at home they just, AT MOST, talk about small fines and suspended sentences if anything at all.
