Men's World Cup gets 100s of millions, and over a billion for the finals. So, figuratively speaking, 6 million can be described as nobody in that context. I am glad when people can make money doing what they love, but there is simply no reason that women soccer players' pay should be compared to men's soccer. Nothing to do with hate - just simple economics.

Women's soccer undoubtedly is growing in popularity but yeah.....6mil viewers worldwide isn't impressive at all. It's rather disappointing. And saying that it was the most watched soccer event in the US after the men's WC final, isn't saying that much considering the low popularity of soccer in the US.

The US men's team does not get 100's of millions for a stage match. So, figuratively speaking, you are comparing apples to oranges.

I would have watched the game but thought it was on Utube.

Now I know that it is on Telemundo too as I do not have cable and will watch future games.

Obviously any soccer game's viewership in the US, regardless of men's or women's, is going to pale in comparison to the Superbowl. It's soccer. In the US. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure that one out.

Meanwhile, in Japan I watched that game and also Japan VS Zambia live on the dark net, since no free to air channels here bothered carrying it. Was available on BS, but who has that? Come on Japan, give the Nadeshiko some love!

USMNT averaged 11.71 million views during the last WC. Over 12 million in the US V Iran match.

Those figures also do NOT include telemundo, as the above USWNT numbers do.

So what’s the complaint now? The USMNT is of course thoroughly average to below average in the men’s arena and the USWNT are world beaters and easily one of the strongest teams consistently of the last decade…and the men’s team still nearly doubles the viewership.

Looking for truth and asking questions in politically driven debates, however nonsensical, seems to be the last thing a “sulking teenager” would do. In fact, I submit that the sulking teenager behavior seems to be coming from the one who can’t help but lob pejoratives and anyone deigning to question their reasoning.

Perhaps become less personally attached to causes that are so open to personal interpretation and you wouldn’t feel the need to try and feebly fling insults over such petty discussions?

That's the average and it's double. The women's first match brought in only 6mil. I doubt they'll even average 4mil.

21mil people watched the men's world cup match between Mexico and Argentina. Soccer is the most popular sport in Mexico. If even half watched the US team's match, that's over 10mil. For a country that's obsessed with soccer, that isn't a reach.

The women's game is a lot more mainstream, in you face, not a sport soccer moms take/drop there off daughters too.

This argument of 'only' 6 million is silly. The men's team was maybe just above that total, but pretty even for game one their past World Cup. It's a nice total for the first game in this WWC.

This was discussed like…all of two posts up. With statistics and ratings proving this. Yet this myth continues that the rating are higher or “about the same” as the men’s.

Who knew people could get so excited about how many other people watched a game on TV?
