deep-rooted PERCEPTION of police brutality

There's also a deep-rooted perception that water is wet.

He refused to stop for police.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

So they're just going around trashing other innocent peoples property. Send the police out with more rounds.

He refused to stop for police.

He stopped. Then one pointed a gun at his face from about 3 feet away and said he'd put a bullet in his head. Then lied about what happened afterwards. The kid probably shouldn't have started driving off but I wonder how clearly you'd be thinking in that position. I hope you never find out.

I don't agree with violent protest. Protest by all means, but do it peacefully. Burning down town halls and schools doesn't help your case.

Don't drive away from soldiers with guns which is what the French police basically are.

The French cops don’t hesitate to use force-I’ve seen them at it…

And France is going to host the summer games? What a joke.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

at least they arrest these people, not just justify their behavior because they have a "right to be angry" or whatever.

He refused to stop for police.

He was stopped. The article doesn't say anything either way. Other media reports that one of the officers had a gun aimed at him at point blank range when he "tries to drive off."

The officer is being held on homicide charges. "Play stupid games" indeed.

That's one way to move people from ICE vehicles to EVs.

Video here (fair warning - this one doesn't cut when the shot is fired):

Would the child driver of 17 years have been shot at close range had he been white?

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

The video starts after he tried already to flee the police. The prosecutor has indicated that before he was stopped as it appears in the video, he tried to flee already multiple times almost hitting a pedestrian and a cyclist. Once he was stopped they asked him not to flee again, he refused to obey their commands and decided to flee again while the cop was standing literally against the car. At this point when the vehicle started to move, the cop decided to shoot probably because he got scared for his life and he thought that letting him go and speed up in an urban area would put again in serious danger innocent people. France has seen recently multiple events of innocent people (including kids) dying from being hit by a car or motorbike because an idiot decided to flee the police or after stealing a vehicle.

The guy had no valid driving license and was arrested in the past for multiple cases of fleeing from the police as well as procession of drug. For some reason he was not prosecuted (the justice system in France seems to be incredibly tolerant for this part of the population) even though fleeing from the police can get you to two years in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros. In fact this dude was arrested for the same offense as early as last week.

He had multiple chances to stop his behavior, he paid the price of his stupidity. So stop with this police brutality nonsense. He had one simple thing to do. Listen to the cop and stop putting the life of others at risk.

daito_hak,

Thanks for that info. Much more than I was aware of. I still don't think it justifies the shoot, though.

Can you link to it?

Just shoot everyone that you don’t like or they doesn’t stop or is it from a different color.

why should you care about their family and friends?

La Haine the movie was made in 1995.

Seems the same happened here.

Plus ca change.

A 17yo not allowed to drive, piloting a Mercedes with a Poland number plate, already known from the police and justice, who did not stop at the first police attempt to stop him.

Police should not have shot at him but he is far from being innocent

Okay, well I found the information myself because no link was forthcoming from my request above.

The prosecutor has indicated that before he was stopped as it appears in the video, he tried to flee already multiple times almost hitting a pedestrian and a cyclist.

The prosecutor and police also said the officers were standing in front of the car and that it drove right at them, so they shot the driver. Which is clearly disproven by the video, hence the officer has been charged.

Once he was stopped they asked him not to flee again, he refused to obey their commands and decided to flee again while the cop was standing literally against the car.

The maximum punishment for which is two years in jail and a 15,000 euros ($16,431.00) fine.

At this point when the vehicle started to move, the cop decided to shoot probably because he got scared for his life and he thought that letting him go and speed up in an urban area would put again in serious danger innocent people.

Not for his life. All he needed to do was take a step backwards. Other people, sure. Recent changes have made the threshold for use of deadly police force in France much broader, and more open to interpretation, essentially authorizing the use of force because something might happen. And, unsurprisingly, there has been a rise in police involved shootings since.

The guy had no valid driving license and was arrested in the past for multiple cases of fleeing from the police as well as procession of drug.

He had been stopped in the past for those things, having no bearing on this incident. Perhaps he still had no license, but he was working as a delivery driver so he may have gotten one since.

The officer remains innocent until proven guilty. As always, I hope he has a fair trial and the correct outcomes are achieved.

Being alive while Black has different rules than for White or Asian people. It shouldn't be this way, but it is.

Perhaps his parents didn't have "the talk" that all black parents need to have with their children for how to deal with police. The Talk: https://www.npr.org/2020/06/28/882383372/a-black-mother-reflects-on-giving-her-3-sons-the-talk-again-and-again

My parents had a similar talk with me too, though it was about almost anyone with power at any level, not just police. They had the talk with me again after I was detained by police as a teen ... for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, though I hadn't done anything wrong. My parents waited until morning to come get me from police detention. That was a good lesson and it has kept me out of US jails, but unfortunately, not all foreign jails (wrong place, wrong time again).

So, not a "brutal crackdown on dissent", no 'special' name for the police who treat driving while Black as something to discourage, no claims that the various protests over different issues are all 'prodemocracy', the elections irrelevant because the 'regime' is a 'dictatorship'.

You can't hide the fact that the dictatorship cabal locks people up for expressing the wrong views.

Yes, the cabal all discuss it at the annual cabal ball.

The incident happened in a poor district of a town near Paris. The kid was driving a Mercedes! It looks like one costing a hundred thousand dollars! Why was there no explaination of this fact?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Which is clearly disproven by the video

The video doesn't "prove" much. These videos are nearly always start after some sort of sh*t has already hit the fan. We only get a part of the story that doesn't include what motivated the cops to do that they did and other insufficient situational context. Yet that doesn't stop simpletons, including the prime minister, who weren't there, to instantly jump to a harsh conclusion.

The guy appears to have been driving illegally, as one needs to be at least 18 for a car DL in France. When the illegal driver refused to comply with police, he abruptly moved the car forward, knocking over the cop with the gun, making it possible the gun went off unintentionally.

My advice to people, regardless of your skin color: If you're doing something illegal and the police stop you, just comply. Physical resistance or attempting to flee can be very dangerous, no matter who you are and what country you're in.

Why would there be? How would it have any relevance requiring an explanation?
