Like China is Russia daddy,it shows how flexless this meeting was, waste of time , people in Japan could of not been inconvenience

Russia and China don't take orders from the G7.

3 ( +18 / -15 )

JJE,this something like you tell a child to do,how ridiculous this statement was

-3 ( +11 / -14 )

Hey, the Indonesian and ROK leaders got to stand in the front row! Modi's noncommittal stance gets him demoted to the back row.

How exactly is China supposed to strong arm Russia?

G7 urges China to press Russia to end war in Ukraine, respect Taiwan's status, fair trade rules

Are they seriously asking all this to China? With a straight face? G7 been drinkin’ that kool aid again

2 ( +15 / -13 )

Urge or pledge what that means these days anyway?

Anyway whether those statement have real meaning, see who really got cheap oil price from Russia sanction.

At the same time, the G7 members vowed to take a stand against various types of “economic coercion,”

But we want China to economically coerce Russia.

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

Beijing has been expanding its military presence and threatening to use force to exert its control over self-governed Taiwan

If 'threatening to use force' is true, then why aren't the anti-west crowds calling out China for the CCP's warmongering. Probably for the same reason they have not called out China's partners Russia and Iran for their warmongering, which could be because the anti-west zealots approve of warring when it's their authoritarian bloc pushing for wars against the democratic nations. Why do China and Russia, two nations that control such huge amounts of land, need to expand? Is their brand of imperialism any different from any other forms of imperialism that have come before? Leave sovereign nations alone, respect existing borders.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

All reasonable requests, but will fall on deaf ears with Bully China.

How exactly is China supposed to strong arm Russia?

Russia is literally completely dependent on China now. Russia would be North Korea 2.0 if China cut it off.

-3 ( +9 / -12 )

It’s obvious from the joint communiqué that the G7 countries are not serious about ending the war in Ukraine. There’s no way Russia will agree to an immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal from Ukraine. Many Russians view Ukraine vital to its security and you can’t defeat a country that is self sufficient in food and energy and has vast reserves of minerals. The only workable solution would be an international accord to keep Ukraine a neutral buffer zone.

1 ( +11 / -10 )

Funny how the governments responsible for STARTING the war in Ukraine want China to tell Russia it should allow them to win it, something that the staggering quantity of weapons they've smuggled into Ukraine has failed to do.

-1 ( +9 / -10 )

It’s obvious from the joint communiqué that the G7 countries are not serious about ending the war in Ukraine.

On the contrary, those screaming "negotiate now" are not serious.

There’s no way Russia will agree to an immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal from Ukraine.

That is why they have to be pushed out or starved out by force.

Many Russians view Ukraine vital to its security

So vital that young men fled Russia in droves rather than be part of Putin's war?

and you can’t defeat a country that is self sufficient in food and energy and has vast reserves of minerals.

No country is an island, even bloated Russia. Food and energy do not win wars by themselves. Committed soldiers win wars.

The only workable solution would be an international accord to keep Ukraine a neutral buffer zone.

Russia hasn't earned having a buffer zone next to it: it demonstrated no capability to take a major city and that won't change anytime soon.

Why not?

Many Russians view Ukraine vital to its security

How so? It's a sovereign country. How can your own security be based on some other country?

and you can’t defeat a country that is self sufficient in food and energy and has vast reserves of minerals. The only workable solution would be an international accord to keep Ukraine a neutral buffer zone.

A better solution would have Ukraine join NATO.

[ “We call on China to press Russia to stop its military aggression, and immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw its troops from Ukraine,” it said. “We encourage China to support a comprehensive, just and lasting peace based on territorial integrity and the principles and purposes of the U.N. Charter,” including in direct talks with Ukraine.

… in appealing for working together on challenges such as climate change, biodiversity, debts and financing needs of of vulnerable countries, global health concerns and economic stability.

… the leaders expressed “serious concern” about the situation in the East and South China seas, where Beijing has been expanding its military presence and threatening to use force to exert its control over self-governed Taiwan. They called for a “peaceful resolution” of China's claim to Taiwan, which has remained unresolved since the communists gained power on the Chinese mainland in 1949.

“A growing China that plays by international rules would be of global interest,” …

The G7 also united in voicing concerns about human rights in China, including in Tibet, in Hong Kong and in the far western region of Xinjiang, where the issue of forced labor is a perennial issue. ]

Pretty words… / … we can try… but it’s like talking to a wall…; the only thing China cares about is… China.

You guys can't count!

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

End the aggression in Ukraine.

Respect Taiwan.

Engage in Fair Trade.

These things are all very reasonable, so of course the dictatorships are against them.

0 ( +10 / -10 )

[ The statement said there was “no legal basis for China’s expansive maritime claims in the South China Sea, and we oppose China’s militarization activities in the region."

Perhaps the fact the U.S. military has 750 military bases overseas most of which encircle China might have something to do with it.

Just saying. ]

Inconvenient facts that a lot of people have a hard time coming to terms with.

What ol' Jack Burton always says

All reasonable requests, but will fall on deaf ears with Bully China.

Oh for crying out loud give it a freaking rest will ya !

China isn't the biggest Bully around and neither is Russia.

You don't think waging wars of imperialism on sovereign countries isn't bullying behaviour?

0 ( +9 / -9 )

Hey, for a second there I thought you were pointing a finger at Republic of China/Taiwan. :-)

Publishing a laundry list of accusations at China is a clear sign the G7 has no sincere desire to engage with China on the basis of sincerity and equality.

Effective diplomacy takes place behind closed doors. Public announcements, videos and photos take place after a deal is cut.

The Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman, Zakharova commented on the G7 meeting in Hiroshima.

"The G7 summit will be held in Hiroshima... of all places. Can you believe that? The combination of the boundless cynicism on the part of the Americans and the sad absurdity of the decisions made by the Japanese hosts is stunning. This is nothing short of a cynical mockery of common sense."

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

Funny how so many people are full of praise for totalitarian China and fascist Russia - and full of endless hatred for freedom-loving democracies like Japan, the US, and the G7 nations.

Yet these very same people CHOOSE to live in these freedom-loving democracies.

Why is that?

Long live free Ukraine. Long live free Taiwan.

0 ( +10 / -10 )

The Governments of Russia and China detest despise democracy in all its forms

The very basic building blocks of Freedom.

The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights and two Covenants, are ignored and treated with distain.

Now, the G7 has quite rightly called on the planet leading despot dictatorships to chose peace.

I submit they, the G7 are wasting there breath.

However much the global free world attempts new ways of denial, appeasement.

Both the Governments of Russia, China will never accept or countenance a world where democracy and freedom has a role.

Accept what is right in plain sight, the frenzied what-abouting, followed by the threats.

Time to make arrangements, to prepare for war, because Ukraine, it's people destruction, the atrocities are just the beginning.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Yea right if you don't agree with G7 then you are against 'democracy' lol.

Such a primitive way of thinking, painting everything and everyone with a broad brush of generalization.

Meanwhile the leader of the G7 the US can't even manage its own country what with the banks failing and mass shootings every week.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

The G7 don't rule or lead the world, the mere thought is a ludicrous assertion. A utter nonsense.

The G7 stand for Democracy....

To quote......

Democracy, based on the rule of law, is ultimately a means to achieve international peace and security, economic and social progress and development, and respect for human rights – the three pillars of the United Nations mission as set forth in the UN Charter.

At the 2005 World Summit, all the world’s governments reaffirmed “that democracy is a universal value based on the freely expressed will of people to determine their own political, economic, social and cultural systems and their full participation in all aspects of their lives” and stressed “that democracy, development and respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms are interdependent and mutually reinforcing.”

Democratic principles are woven throughout the normative fabric of the United Nations.

Peace, dignity and equality on a healthy planet

These is what we are fighting for and the despot regimes fear the most.

What ol' Jack Burton always says

Secondly i don't advocate or support the bullying or dominance of any person , country or region.

And yet you said that Russia wasn't a bully.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

If history has taught us all one undeniable fact, war is the final destination when political ideology turn into belligerent aggressive tyranny on neighboring countries, he chosen decision is to opt move in the opposite direction so questioning one party state.

War in all it forms has been perpetrated by dictatorships.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

China won’t press Russia to make peace because it would go against everything China believes in. Might makes right.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Look it is far simpler to take one country UK, Japan I struggle to understand the political culture.

So its the UK.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak could be coming to the end of his parties government.

Ultimate the people will decide his administrations fate.

The Government of China and Russia ideologies continue on regardless, not speck of change, or choice at the ballot box. Tick here or else.

Political opponents are routinely imprisoned. detained or simply disappear.

Look at the appalling treatment of Hong Kong democracy campaigners.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Why doesn't the G7 push for peace in the Ukraine instead? Why are the asking China to do it? That isn't China's role!

2 ( +6 / -4 )

The Government of China has the political and economics leverage to bring the war in Ukraine to at least a ceasefire.

However the government of China agenda might be facing in a direction that prolongs the war, creating the opportunity to secure future hegemony dominance over all its neighbors.

Quote... the deductive analysis, psychology, alertness, and mental ascendancy over one’s opponents......

The constant incursions into disputed areas, the continued provocative bullying, the endless demands that neighbors accept there perceptions of historic grievances, and continuously kowtow.

To divide then dominate every function of democratic government.

“no legal basis for China’s expansive maritime claims in the South China Sea, and we oppose China’s militarization activities in the region."

Lets see/let the world see how the Chinese will behave to this first, If/when the American REMOVE the 1st Island Chain/2nd island chain it and its allies built around China. REMEMBER? When Russia went to Cuba?? The American threatened NUCLEAR war, which would have impacted The Whole World.

Forcing another country to not trade with a 3rd country, sounds like classic trade coercion, no? Its classic American behavior.

So, to be taken seriously, have any integrity, perhaps, The World RICHES ECONOMIES, can address these too?? Democracy has many forms, not just the Western version.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

The US should claim coercive diplomacy as their intellectual property.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

The Group of Seven democracies united Saturday in urging China to pressure its strategic partner Russia to end its war on Ukraine.

As silly as it sounds, if executed well, it could be a good plan. Of course, if they had invited Xi in addition to Zelensky, it would have made this plan a lot easier to execute...

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Lets see/let the world see how the Chinese will behave to this first, If/when the American REMOVE the 1st Island Chain/2nd island chain it and its allies built around China.

The US is under no obligation to remove bases from South Korea and Japan based on China's hissy fits.

REMEMBER? When Russia went to Cuba??

I remember when Russia went to Cuba with nukes

The American threatened NUCLEAR war, which would have impacted The Whole World.

and yes the US ratcheted up the rhetoric accordingly.

Democracy has many forms, not just the Western version.

Press Freedom Index doesn't lie.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Why doesn't the G7 push for peace in the Ukraine instead? Why are the asking China to do it? That isn't China's role!

Because China has the ability to bring its untrained dog Russia to heal.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

It will be the Koreans and Japanese who decide if they terminate their agreements to host US bases and not China.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

@wallace

Like the US would ever allow that to happen, very naive statement.

Both countries had massive demonstrations against US bases but that went unheeded as the US had inserted their proxy stooges to power.

I don't think my comment is naive and host countries have requested the closure of US bases like in the UK and Europe.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Like the US would ever allow that to happen, very naive statement.

The US literally closed the bases in the Philippines because their government wanted them gone.

Both countries had massive demonstrations against US bases but that went unheeded as the US had inserted their proxy stooges to power.

1) either those massive demonstrations weren't massive enough to represent a majority of the country or 2) they need to figure how to elect somebody that does represent this majority (which doesn't actually exist).
