Japan has warned that its laws on cannabis use may apply to its nationals even when they are abroad.

Lol, how is that legal, exactly? An what about gaijin? Are we nationals now?

My wife adorably intelligent wife (envy me at ease), says:

Marijuana can stay in your system for different lengths of time depending on how often you use it, how much you use it, and the type of test you take.

Here are some general estimates for different cannabis tests:

• Urine tests can detect cannabis in the urine for approximately 3–30 days after use.

• Saliva tests can detect cannabis for approximately 24 hours after use. Some saliva tests have detected cannabis for up to 72 hours.

• Hair tests can detect cannabis for up to 90 days after use.

• Blood tests can only detect cannabis for 3–4 hours.

These are only rough estimates, and the actual detection time may vary depending on your individual factors, such as your body fat, metabolism, hydration, and sensitivity of the test. If you want to get marijuana out of your system faster, you may try drinking more water, exercising, eating healthy foods, and avoiding other drugs or alcohol. However, there is no guaranteed way to speed up the elimination process

Free of it after 48 hours.

Missing the point is the fact that stoners lead normal lives, most would not know a stoner from anyone else. Stoners don’t get into drunken brawls, pass out in doorways, blackout, have regrets, have liver disease, the need for hospitalization to weed off the weed, or any of the other baggage that comes with the consumption of alcohol.

How long THC remains in the system is a silly exercise in futility. How much alcohol is in one’s system 7 hours after a night of drinking worries me more than how much THC is in one's system after the first hit.

I could name a few highly strung and repressed cultures that a good spliff maybe just what the doctor ordered! Thailand has bet big on this.

Authoritarians however, will have an instinctual aversion and fear to legalizing what should never have been illegal in the first place. Sitting high ( excuse the pun ) and mighty on their chairs, judging a thing they have no knowledge of, ill-informed and entitled, deciding for other people what they can and can't do. Strange times we live in.

... if Chinese tourists consume marijuana abroad and are “detected upon returning to China, it is considered equivalent to using drugs domestically

I could never understand the rational for this kind of thinking.

If someone does something legal in another country, obviously it's fine and harmless in that country and it doesn't have any negative consequences for the person's home country other than the traveler getting more knowledgeable.

Maybe that's what the home country is afraid of.

Recent studies have shown that marijuana use can cause damage the heart and blood vessels.

"Marijuana smoke also delivers many of the same substances researchers have found in tobacco smoke — these substances are harmful to the lungs and cardiovascular system,"

“There’s a public perception that marijuana is safer than tobacco, and this study raises concern this may not be true,” said lead study author Dr. Giselle Revah

Maybe some countries don't want to start pumping money into avoidable medical costs while not benefiting from the tax and economic benefits that Thailand will be pocketing while not paying any medical bills.

Shave my head.

More than medical costs a lot of countries' elite don't want anything that could threaten the acceptance of workaholic culture, which forms the basis of what these elites profit from: control over a docile hard working labor force.

Shave my head.

If they really want to know they can use hairs from your arm pit, or elsewhere...to avoid detection under such circumstances you'd have to go completely hairless over your entire body, which would in itself give it all away, although maybe you could try selling some story like you're undergoing radiation treatment for cancer

I doubt the Japanese government will start analyzing hair samples from returning tourists from Thailand.

Japan has warned that its laws on cannabis use may apply to its nationals even when they are abroad.

The Japanese government threatens this, but Japanese law does not actually allow for the prosecution of cannabis use overseas. This is the equivalent of parents trying to scare their kids into not doing something the parents can't force them to not do.

Recent studies have shown that marijuana use can cause damage the heart and blood vessels.

So can the sun. Also, said damage can be negligible. Give us some perspective, because usually arguments like that are just to stoke hysteria. How MUCH damage? How bad is it?

Canada legalized, and you know what happened after legalization? Nothing. Canada still is one of the best places on the planet to live, and it's a highly functioning democracy. And sometimes you smell cannabis when you're outside walking.

The Japanese government, and many posters, are still living in Reefer Madness (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhQlcMHhF3w).

I know a few people in the states that take some kind of cannabis for stress and anxiety. Seems to work for them and at least they have the option.
