Here is the question that is missing in this article, the elephant in the room.

Will Christoper Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ Get a Theatrical Release in Japan?

Is It not the case, no matter the sensitivity of/to the subject matter, history as harsh and unrelenting its outcomes, is unescapable.

No hiding place, release and let the people decide if they want to view not not.

Or inescapable?

Nolan wrote the main timeline to represent Oppenheimer’s subjective experience. The other timeline, filmed in black and white, is more objective and focused on Lewis Strauss (Robert Downey Jr.), a supporter of the development of the more destructive hydrogen bomb.

Looking forward to this and hope it also includes John Von Neumann and his interactions with Oppenheimer, which were barbed.

I don’t think that this will be available to watch in Japan. You can watch it on other countries Netflix soon.

Want to view “Oppenheimer” in IMAX at a J screen near you, popcorn in one hand hotdog in the other .

Then bombard Toho Towa Co the countries premier foreign film distribution network.

Since this conversation will inevitably be derailed, I will just say that any consideration of the atomic bombing should be paired with an equal consideration of the 10s of millions that were killed in the Pacific War.

I totally despise the man, what he did, what he stood for and his contribution to the security of humanity.

I don't know how Nolan will portray him, and what the story is.What I do know is he turned science into a weapon of mass destruction, he was an ardent communist, who had relationship with communists, even foreign communists, and let's not forget he lobbied and testified to give others nuclear know how.

And this is how to romanticize the biggest war crime in history..

Red hysteria alive and well. Oppenheimer was also a member of the ACLU, civil rights organizations and pro-worker unions, all conflated with "communism". As were individuals like Dr. King at the time.

Maybe like the McCarthyists of the time you have communists on the brain.

Pretty sure that's the internet drumming up some fake news for clickbait.

Toho hasn't set a release date yet but a lot of Hollywood blockbusters get delayed in the Summer so that Japan can protect its domestic films. Got to make space for those annual Doraemon, Power Rangers, Crayon Shin-chan and Kamen Rider movies.

It's called scientific advancement and you can't stop it. If it wasn't Oppenheimer, it would've been someone else around the same time period. The majority of weapons come from science. Where do you they come from. So you're also opposed to him not allowing the US to have a sole control even though proliferation was bound to happen and it actually led to deterrence which prevents their use.

@TokyoLiving. I suggest you read some reviews (even if you refuse to watch it) before thinking as you do.

Many have described it as a real life horror film.

I do hope it's released theatrically in Japan, Defintely one for the big screen.

Those who have already watched and are commenting, does the movie include the quote, Now I have become death, the destroyer of worlds ?

Some of the Rosenberg conspirators also worked on the Atomic bomb, they gave Russian an markup of an implosion lens, use too trigger a nuclear explosion

That would be the Holocaust

Looking forward to seeing this back in the States next week.

Sadly, the closest IMAX 70 mm screen is in Indianapolis.

Still, regular imax should be quite an experience.

The movie will be available in Japan 10 years from now if not later in underground cinemas.

Of course I do. Look at what NK has been doing with their nukes. Nuclear weapon is a weapon of responsibility, in the hand of the likes of totalitarian regime mean it is impossible to ensure responsible, accountable use. I buy the argument Hiroshima saved more lives than deaths. Isn't that clear now, in hindsight?

Meh, it wasn't just McCarthy, Hoover et al. all got it spot on, AND they nutralized the communist threat posed by Russia.

Since its wokie demise, Communist China has been able to infiltrate every aspect of US society: in budiness, in politics, in education, research, tech, even essentials of life like housing. Not just USA either, the whole world is on the cusp of being suppressed by China's coercion.

I would hazard a guess that if not for McCarthyism, Russia would have succeeded.

Ahistorical rightists are one of my bugaboos.

Russia which had just come out of feudalism 30 years before was sending satellites and Yuri Gagarin into space first in the 50s while the US was persecuting minorities and "communists".

Get your facts straight.

Get your facts straight

LOL...note this is from a Russian outlet.

https://www.hse.ru/mirror/pubs/share/direct/440212897.jpg

I suppose you think China's success since USA ignored the communist threat is all because of China's prowess in innovation, technological superiority, economic proficiency and great social management of the CCP...instead of spying, infiltration, stealing from USA et al.

LOL, even with hindshight evidence, it's still impossible to make the horse drink...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A blurry JPEG as evidence then shifting to China? Nonsense as usual from the right.

To get back to the topic , Oppenheimer had many questionable characteristics but the Red hysteria he was caught up in, which still exists in many sectors today was not his most significant flaw.
