A few years back, such a price was making the headline due to a very high oil price, but now the exchange rate has more impacted the price increase than the oil price itself. And yet the price of crude oil on the world market has fallen from the high of $112 in March 2022 to around $73 last month. This is profiteering by the oil companies here, pure and simple.

Errrm, don't we have a trade surplus? Let's use this to help subsidize for the people, be it by lowering gas prices or by lowering electricity bill. Keeping at least one of these lowered helps the entire populace, including businesses.

Why "ideally petrol"? Because you call it that? The terms gasoline and petrol are used fairly equally around the world, with perhaps gasoline being a tad more popular. (N & S America, plus parts of Europe and Africa, and of course, Japan. While petrol is used mostly by the UK and its former colonies.)

Why not "ideally benzene", which is used in most of Europe, and much of Africa?

You had to do that. I, and I assume many others, knew exactly what it was referring to. The photo of the fuel nozzle in the automobile fuel inlet was a major clue.

Time to ask Russia for some of that sweet discount gas.

Yet the tax on a litre of gasoline is 53,8 yen. The government is robbing its citizen's blind and then pretending to be altruistic by giving a subsidy (to oil distributor's).

Japan isn't at war with anybody in the Middle East, hasn't been in any war for nearly 80 years. So what's the excuse here?
