Japan's crown prince, princess to officially visit Vietnam in Sept

Japanese Crown Prince Fumihito and his wife Princess Kiko will make an official visit to Vietnam in late September on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Imperial Household Agency said Wednesday.

The goodwill visit is expected to last for around a week, with arrangements being made for the couple to participate in official events related to the Japan-Vietnam diplomatic milestone, the agency said.

A formal invitation was issued by Vietnam in early August, it said. The couple last made an official visit there in 1999, alongside trips to Laos and Thailand.

The upcoming journey will mark the third official visit abroad by the couple since the May 2019 ascension of Emperor Naruhito, which made Crown Prince Fumihito -- the emperor's younger brother -- next in line to the throne.

The crown prince and his wife previously visited Poland and Finland in 2019 to commemorate the centennial of diplomatic ties with the two countries, and Britain in May this year to attend the coronation of King Charles III.

Visit of goodwill and look for more cheap workers that can come to Japan.

Unfortunately even Vietnamese don't want to come so eagerly to Japan anymore.

Prince Fumihito and Princess Kiko look a very handsome couple. Their visit to Vietnam will be a great success.

Wow, how kind of the imperial family to grace them with their presence, and how lucky of the Vietnamese to be receiving such dignified guests. rolls eyes

Don't get me wrong, greater Nippon-Vietnam cooperation is needed in the interest of trade and confronting common problems. Against the backdrop of rising anti-Vietnamese sentiment and mistreatment in Japan, however... it should rub them the wrong way. Maybe before Japan goes to Vietnam expecting a friendly audience, Japan should be willing to treat Vietnamese people in Japan with common decency and respect.

Goodwill stories are pleasant than the continuous negative USA/Nato wars around the globe.

Hope the visit goes well and enjoy the Vietnamese food.

Good to see that Kiko recovered quickly from Covid.

Vietnam is a great and inexpensive place to buy and get your suits tailored.

I think the royal family got wind of this and quickly booked their flights.

Larr Flint...

Unfortunately even Vietnamese don't want to come so eagerly to Japan anymore.

The Nikkei.asia edition today has a report about 12,000 mainly Vietnamese on the trainee worker scheme that have "gone missing" in Japan. So some seem quite keen to come and stay.

Is it just me, but if anyone on Japan Today criticizes anything to do with Japan, it seems to be downvoted. Almost nationalistic. As times get hard, the Royal Family should be made accountable financially to the public, so that Japan is getting good value for their taxpayer's money. The days of the Gods are over. They can be respected but respect is earned. They are there to work for the people of Japan , and not just sit on the throne.

Well clearly they are cheating the system, and if they are found in violation of their visa, then they should be returned home. However, while the training system is at times abused, by employers and employees, some are given real jobs and are welcome.

Well, Japan can always look towards Nepal, Bhutan, India, etc.

Vietnamese workers can be replaced.

Try posting anything criticizing china or the ccp in china-nese forums and see how much better you fair.

This is JAPAN Today and not USA Today where you think you can post whatever you want.

Against the backdrop of rising anti-Vietnamese sentiment and mistreatment in Japan,

You mean the rising resentment towards increasing criminal activity by Vietnamese immigrants.

As for mistreatment, Southeast Asians are mistreated equally. Vietnamese are not singled out.

It's just you. You haven't noticed the massive downvoting against anything pro-USA or pro-Japan? I could post that the sky is blue and get 10 downvotes from the China and Russia supporters who inhabit this site.

If you follow the news at all Russia is invading Ukraine and China is threatening to invade Taiwan. The US and NATO aren't starting any wars.

Bon Voyage. Bridge-building is an act in worldmaking. Wishing Prince Fumihito and Princess Kiko a meaningful mission with their hosts in Vietnam.
