Economy and Industry Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura met with national fishing association officials Friday to seek understanding of the fishing communities.

National Federation of Fisheries Cooperative Associations chief Masanobu Sakamoto said their opposition is unchanged.

Will customer really understand that and keep buying fisheries products from those regions? It easy for ministries since they don't need to deal with declining product sales after water release.

This must be like the tenth article telling us 'Japan prepares to release Fukushima water'. Not one of them has mentioned a date that they plan to do it.

And how many years are they going to keep dumping?

What is the use, what is the purpose of diluting nuclear poisoned water before release into the Pacific Ocean? The Pacific Ocean has enough water to dilute the nuclear poinoned water. And as all oceans in the world are interconnected the nuclear poisoned water will be carried around the world to poison all fish and poison all people who eat the fish. If Japan does not want that to happen, WHY dump the nuclear poisoned water into the Pacific Ocean? Leave the nuclear poison water where it is. Afraid it will poison people in Japan? So evaporate the poisoned water quickly!

TEPCO and LDP also told the residents that the nuke reactors were safe. In fact there's a famous sign in Futaba, 原子力明るい未来のエネルギー, Nuclear power, bright energy of the future. Yeah right. Can you blame the residents for not trusting the government and TEPCO? Could be safe, could be well within safety limits, but NIMBY. I'm sure Nishimura and Kishida are in that group.

As soon as this radioactive water dump starts Hong Kong, South Korea and other countries should ban all the imports from Japan.

Anyway I'm not eating products from Fukushima since long time ago and now will have to have up on Japanese fish products completely.

The cooling of the corium and the additional leakage of underground water could go on for several more decades and probably beyond 2050. TEPCO does not know how to recover the corium.

I’m way less concerned about this than I am about the extensions granted to the already aging reactors dotted around Japan.

It's been the plan since day one of the storage opperation. They sat on their hands for over a decade watching this water build up to a point where there was no alternative than to release it into the sea. The secondary filter system, pumps and piping has taken over five years to build. They started bulding it long before they announced the plan to dump it into the sea. All the secrecy and misinformation make it difficult to believe anything the J-Gov and TEPCO say. Hopefully, they are correct and this release will have a "negligible" impact on the environment. However, if they are not correct it will be an irreversable environmental nuclear disaster on a scale never before seen.

Guess I won't be surfing anywhere near Fukushima then.

Another fun fact: much of the seafood served in Japan comes from Miyagi, so yeah...

Yeah, I used to surf up and down that coastline all the way up to Shinko in Sendai.

Have avoided surfing the Fukushima area since the disaster but would consider it if I were in the area since surfers have gotten back in the water over there.

It is not safe water. Only iodine, and cesium is removed. Even strontium is not totally removed. There are over 20 radionuclides in that “safe water”.

Isn't it common sense that if the Tritium isn't separated by water that dumping in into the ocean it will undoubtedly be consumed by marine life ?

The endorsements are in the IAEA reports. But the IAEA has no legal authority and must be decided by the Japanese government.

For Japan's neighbors, especially China, South Korea, and North Korea, to stop importing fisheries and processed products is very meaningful from the perspective of protecting marine resources.

Especially in the Yellow Sea, marine resources are being depleted because China and South and North Korea are overfishing.
