Japan and China agreed to resume high-level trilateral talks with South Korea that would include the countries' leaders and top diplomats, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a regular press conference, Hayashi said he and Chinese counterpart Wang Yi made the agreement on the sidelines of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) meeting in Indonesia earlier this month.
A trilateral summit meeting has not been held since December 2019 due to diplomatic tensions between Japan and South Korea, which have since thawed.
"It's highly meaningful for the leaders of China, Japan and South Korea, which share a big responsibility towards the region's peace and prosperity, to get together" to discuss cooperation and other issues, Hayashi told reporters.
U.S. allies Japan and South Korea are wary of China's increasing military assertiveness and of growing tensions between China and the United States over a range of issues including trade and self-ruled Taiwan.

If it's a leaders summit it looks like it's Japan's turn to host.

This is the better course of action, rather than raising tension through war games etc.

Caution is required.

Excellent, the 3 biggest of Asia must be united..

Russia can sell oil and gas to China, then we can buy it from China.

Perhaps on climate change that is possible. Most other ways it will not be possible while the CCP remains in charge of China. You cant be united with untrustworthy people like the CCP, no matter how much you may want to.
It is not the responsibility of the US to calm things. It is China that is causing all the tensions in the region, which is why everyone around China is working more closely together to counter the belligerence of China.
Agreed.
I am sure they will do exactly that.
All of those actions plus trade coercion puts China at odds with almost everyone in the region and beyond. All are wary Of China and are learning to ignore the words coming from China while concentrating on China's actions which are more often than not direct contradictions of what they say. Few trust China, and with good reason. China is its own worst enemy, or more succinctly, the CCP is the worst enemy of the Chinese people.
Japan and South Korea are aware of the duplicitous nature of China's rulers and will act with caution, promise nothing and walk away probably to meet again soon to discuss any "warnings" or advice China has given in order to act in unison if required, to counter China.

Sad part is that both Japan and South Korea are both becoming USA's Confrontational policies, Divide and Rule, and becoming USA's poodles.

Sometimes face-to-face meetings produce better results. It's very difficult to read body language from a webcam. We can't see the people behind the scenes.

If China had friends, it wouldn't have this problem. Looks like friends are important after all.
The PRC is only 75 years old and won't make it to 100 if it does something stupid.
Put a man on the moon and the internet. What has the PRC accomplished beyond theft and Xi Jinping thought?
I'm sorry for your troubled childhood in the ME.
If the US is circling the drain, then China should have no problem waiting it out, right? Oh wait, it is China that is entering the old folks home before it got rich.
More to be proud of than thug China.
