The world is going in the wrong direction.

The Supreme Court will strike down the lower court ruling, because they are under pressure to do so,this what happened when the Supreme Court become political

Great news. No more fear for finding stillborns in combini toilets.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Better late than never. Pleased to see this approved with a sensible term limit. Much less stressful and safer for women than the surgical option.

@Yrral. This is about Japan. Not about the nonsense concerning this medication in the dysfunctional US.

so this is how LDP fightning with dying jn population?

Fumio sugoiiiiiii,go and get new pair of white gloves ....

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

That’s for sure not contributing to any higher birth rates.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

It’s the wrong mindset to think women body is hers and can do what they want. When a child born, women don’t say it was my body but they want men to pay. In pregnancy, another person involved and potentially there is the third person. For abortion, men’s consent must be required as it is required that men pays for the care of child when it’s born.

pregnancy should not be treated like shaving women legs claiming its her body. Others are involved in the process.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

Awa no Gaijin: Technically both parties need to sign the consent form, In practice they rarely do. The woman just has to claim she cannot contact / or doesn’t know who the Father is.

This has nothing to do with falling birth rates. This stops unwanted babies being left in toilets, the still miserablestigma of being a young single Mother in Japan. Choice.

Lets hear from some women please.

You seriously typed that?

Supreme Court say the abortion drug can be used as prescribed today in their ruling

Yrral. This website is Japan Today.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

The decision is that of the woman only. Period.

This is good news. This will help a lot of women avoid clinical abortions and be much cheaper.

Health ministry panel OKs oral abortion pill for 1st time

Is this the same kind of pill as the morning after" type pill?

If yes, welcome to the 20th century.

If no, well, when you DON'T teach sex ed in schools and you have NO support for young girls who got knocked up and when you have NO enforced penalties for deadbeat males who abandon their children, what else do you expect the outcomes will be, otherwise?

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

@shogun36: Before you criticise Japan's very poor record on sex education you should be asking about your own education if you think the drugs approved yesterdsy are even remotely the same as the Morning After Pill.

However, The next most logical step in Japan is make the morning after pill available OTC from a pharmacy seven days a week.

The oral abortion pill very good news. Period.

Now about: "I thought Japan direly needs more babies. Apparently not. More blood sacrifices to Molek, I guess." First, there other forms birth control available in Japan. Abortion is the last resort when all systems fails. In my living memory abortion has never been a big moral deal in Japan.

About the falling population. This has nothing to do with abortion per se. The "problem" social-economic. Abolishing abortion will result in a rise in the population.

This is form of "anti-abortion" being practiced in Japan: strict gun control. Japanese not being slaughtered at the same insane level that Americans are.

I think we should support a woman's right to choose as soon as she recognizes that she's killing a baby.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

A mass of cells at nine weeks is most certainly not a baby.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

It remains a fetus according to medical science until it is born and survives by its own organs then it is a baby.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Abortions are the leading cause of death in the world and in Japan. Facilitating further deaths is social regression in Japan, not progression.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Any society that expedites the murder of unborn babies is highly disfunctional and morally sick.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

There were 126,174 abortion cases in Japan in fiscal 2021, the ministry said.

I’m sure the ‘right for life’ crew will have a lot to say about this. If this prevents babies being dumped in garbage bins, stashed in train lockers and flushed down public toilets it is a good thing.

it should be noted that many abortions are done for health reasons.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

If and when a mother decides and after deep consideration that her pregnancy should be terminated then all possible help should be provided to insure her safety and well being. I believe that NO mother wants to have an abortion unless she believe it is in the best interest of herself and her baby too.

I knowed the Supreme Court would uphold the use of the abortion pill, because they are in the spotlight legally and politically, the chief judge is being summoned up to the Senate for misconduct allegations of Clarence Thomas,

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

This will contribute to an increase in stds in Japan.

The world is going in the wrong direction.

maybe to conservatives, but majority of democratic nations are leaning towards progressives and liberals,

these are the times we live in

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I knowed the Supreme Court would uphold the use of the abortion pill,

well SCOTUS made it clear that abortions should be left us to states to decide.

banning the abortion pill now would just make them liars, swayed by faith , not by the constitution

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

take a look at a baby development website…at 9 weeks

and no baby has ever survived outside a womans womb after 9 weeks, the brain all the organs and lungs none of it is developed enough to survive as a human baby. no baby has survived premature prior to 22weeks

This matter will be decided by the Japanese.

So you contradict your earlier comment.

> Makes sense.

The matter to supply abortion pills was decided by the Japanese and will be available soon for their citizens.

The decision to take it will be the decision of the women themselves. Period.

93 percent were successful in their terminations within 24 hours of ingestion.

What about the other 7%?

This pill should be outlawed. People should learn to be responsible to themselves instead of putting themselves at risk such as what goes along with this pill.
