I can hear TEPCO now.
“Please, please use less electricity to keep cool and please pay more for it because we are too busy polluting the pacific”.
sakurasuki
Where is information from utility company and government about this? Do they still relevant? Or only people suffering from climate change and inaction from government that what really relevant for the news these days?
falseflagsteve
Ruddy hot around here again, phew! What a scorcher.
I’ll stay in today, oh yeah. Glad we didn’t get price increases for our electricity like a lot of Japan, thanks to the nuclear power plants.
Sorry if people have money issues, but better to get in a little debt by using AC rather than possibly dying.
Chabbawanga
I hear that. Pretty sure everyone will agree with nuclear power if it means they are only paying a third of their current utility bills.

Stay Tuned BCZ. it will only get worse as long as GREED is taking priority over mother earth. And what's so FUNNY, IGNORANT and makes matters even worse is that ""people"" are building black homes and buildings all around boxing themselves in a BLACK BOX then adding more Air Conditioners to keep them cool, better start painting them white or lighter colors with tile roofs so they can breath while a sleep.

Chabbawanga
Oh yeah, one of my chums just had price increase of 40%, couldn’t believe when he told me. That can make a hell of a lot of difference to those hesitant to turn on the AC or not.
Heat seems rather relentless this year, usually they’d be a few follower days or nights even. Night temps are even bleeding high for the last few weeks.

No one in Japan has had a 40% power charge increase.
Your Osaka Gas power charges are only a little less than KEPCO. ¥20.31 to ¥27.83 kWh.
wallace
ffs
there has been a power and gas government subsidy of 20% since January which will end in October. So expect a 20% increase.
falseflagsteve
wallace
Excuse me, but many had price increases starting in June, please see link below
https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2023/05/16/business/economy-business/power-price-hike/
We aren’t getting that in this area that is what I’m talking about not government subsidies.
wallace
ffs
all consumers have received 20% government subsidies since January. It's on your bill.
falseflagsteve
wallace
But, what has that to do with the June price increases for much of the country that didn’t effect me?
falseflagsteve
Wallace
Please read the link I gave. In Kansai we didn’t get a recent price increase but many others did.
wallace
ffs
seven power companies increased their charges. From average TEPCO ¥881 to Hokuriku ¥2,196.
But in July those charges were reduced again because of lower fuel charges.

Dunno about that, all I’m mentioning is we didn’t get any increase here

Kids on their summer break having to deal with mountains of homework in this heat. Why even bother giving them any work at all? Productivity will be at an all time low and their brains won't be able to remember any of the work given to them. The whole point of a summer break is to not have school in these conditions. Let them enjoy their few weeks in peace, come back refreshed and ready to go.

Thank god for the storm in Tokyo yesterday arvy. Had been surfing in Chiba and it was heating up out there, but drove back into a tempest down Kampachi! Was welcome relief from the relentless heat.
Dave
I'm sorry, but i have been on earth for many years now, Seems like it comes up every summer where people always say, Boy' It sure seems like a very hot summer this year.
Rodney
mandatory solar panels for all the houses in business please. It is sun FGS.

The country's July total was only eclipsed by that for July 2018,
So we had some cooling the last several years.
virusrex
No, that is an invalid conclusion, variation is expected, but when records in general point towards an increasing trend there is no way to call that cooling.

It was on Japan Today the other day, but there is increasing evidence to suggest that the human body is less tolerant of high wet bulb temperatures, i.e., combinations of temperature and humidity, than previously thought. According to this evidence, a temp of 33C with 55% relative humidity already hits the "danger" level. This will be very common in Japan, especially in a heatwave like this.

total number of locations ?
ian
better to just report the yearly comparative average maximum temperature for the month
mountainpear
28 degrees Celsius with 50% humidity in my location! A lovely summer's day!
ian
If it's a big concern JT should report weekly/monthly the number of hospital admittance and deaths due to heat strokes so people can have aimless discussions again like with covid. Probably daily too
fallaffel
They report it from time to time when it's higher than usual.
Any easily avoidable death is a big concern right?
ian
Is it?
Lord Dartmouth
It's a summer like any other, though with an El Nino tacked on. Big deal.
Funny how when it's cold, it's just 'weather'; when it's hot, it's 'Global Boiling'.
Elvis is here
What? Are we in the same country? Or can't you read your Japanese power bill?
Incorrect. Fact is, all tourist areas are getting it. And getting it big. It's plain to see on your bill and not what one's needs in this heat.
Rodney
I slept 6 hours today. My pee is orange.

You are not drinking enough water.

A valid conclusion proven by the historical facts and agreed to by the experts, as opposed to an anonymous poster here.
virusrex
The opposite, no "historical facts" and no "experts" that agree in the contrary, opposed by the experts in the article. Claims of imaginary facts and experts from anonymous people on the internet obviously have a much lower value as arguments than a full article that contains the professional opinion of experts in the field.
fallaffel
I think you're both saying the same thing, but it got a bit lost in translation.
cuddly
If you read the article you see the experts provided this:
The country's July total was only eclipsed by that for July 2018,
So, 2019,2020, 2021, and 2021 were cooler than July 2018 according to the experts.
Why deny the science?
virusrex
Not at all, the claim that we had some cooling is not valid, the trend is clearly going up.
The experts do not say we have had cooling on the last few years as you claimed, that is still a personal and mistaken misinterpretation from variation in the temperatures.
That is very easy to corroborate the moment you could not bring any expert to repeat your claim. That is what is much more validly described as denying the science.
virusrex
You are not siding with any expert of the field, the claim that there was a cooling is not supported by any expert, is a misleading and mistaken personal conclusion that runs opposite to what the experts have said about the current situation.
gcFd1
Why be anti-science?
I'm totally with the experts in the field, and the facts present in the article such as the last four Julys being cooler:
The country's July total was only eclipsed by that for July 2018,
virusrex
Refuting a claim not supported by the experts but by a misleading interpretation of variation is not being antiscience.
That is a description much more valid for people that pretend the experts have described the recent climate as undergoing a cooling when they in fact have said the opposite.
You are not with the experts you are against them, easy to see the moment you could not get any reference to experts calling the recent trend a cooling as you mistakenly claim.
cuddly
Refuting a basic claim by the experts is a prime example of your anti-science stance.
I'm also in agreement with the experts in the field.
Again, the article shows the last four Julys being cooler. This is pure fact. Disputing it is just plain trolling.
The country's July total was only eclipsed by that for July 2018,
Why deny the science?
virusrex
the claim that we experienced a cooling do not come from any expert, you were completely unable to provide even one reference to any expert saying the temperatures cooled down, not even one.
The experts have clearly concluded we did not experience any cooling, instead they have repeatedly said temperatures are rising. Your personal claims contradict the experts, and obviously they are much more likely to be corect.
