Please, Mr Tamaki, can you finally get your act together with all the other opposition parties to oust the serially incompetent and self-serving LDP? And thereafter firmly plant responsibility for all Japan's woes on the long incumbency of the LDP in the minds of the people so they never come back.

If only it were possible! Dream away.....

Why would Mr. Tamaki do that? With his huge number of members in his party, maybe 5 or 6, he gets to be called a party leader, receiving a higher salary, and sometimes invited to talk to the press about how they are against PM Kishida. None of these so called leaders are looking after the citizens rights, they are only in it for themselves and whatever power they can get!

Ok, MarkX, I get it, but, as BigP appreciates, it is nice to have a dream where everyone is not cynical.

No, they can't. They don't have the LDP's deep pockets, no one knows who any of them are and there's no way centre-right crypto-LDP types like this Tamaki individual can see eye-to-eye with communists, social democrats and other left-wing or centrist parties. They're useless.

By the way I hate to speak ill of opposition parties in Japan because the LDP are far, far worse than any of them.

Like NK, China, and Singapore, japan has a one party system of leaders whose family were leaders.

A few LDP supporters peering in here and leaving their marks without commenting. Perhaps they can overturn our cynicism about the LDP. I'm open to the idea I am misjudging them. Really.

I think they know they can't. They would be defending the indefensible. Perhaps they are connected to select cliques that do actually benefit in some way from LDP oligarchy, but it would be bad form to admit that they're in on the scam.

The hit-and-run hear-no-evils of the LDP, the bureaucracy or Japan in general are a mystery. I wonder who they are. They have a great chance to enlighten the "ignorant" foreigners, who don't see the glory. No amount of simply negative votes will change minds, especially not mine.

The problem with the opposition is there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians, and all they do is split everyone’s votes, so they never gain any power to do anything, except collect their salary. So they can be all the ready they want, but they’ll never be a viable opposition. The young don’t vote but the pensioners are all conservative. Not to mention time rich to actually go out and vote.

The main problem with the opposition is that they don't have the money and hence the candidates to match the LDP. In 2009 the DPJ were able to wipe the floor with the LDP because they had 330 candidates to the LDP's 326, their leaders were well-known public figures and the party had been around long enough to get a bit of name recognition. In the 2021 election the CDPJ only had 240 candidates to the LDP's 336, and the opposition parties had fragmented and no one had much of a clue who the leaders were. It's not surprising they don't have a chance of taking over; in some areas there isn't even a viable opposition candidate to vote for.

DPP should try to form a coalition party with the Communist party and all the other left leaning parties. They should also try to exploit the very real rifts occurring between Komeito and the LDP and try to get Komeito to abandon the LDP and join the left leaning coalition. Then maybe they'd have a chance.

Say what you will about the LDP, but no country ever improved with a left-wing government. Be careful what you wish for.
