Masanobu Ogura, minister in charge of policies related to children, will take the lead in the discussions, with the focus on whether the government can take steps to prevent individuals in positions of influence over young people from coercing them into sexual acts.

Of course, they can.

They can also investigate the malignancy at the heart of the media, which has basically covered this up for years. This is almost as big a can of worms as the abuse itself.

As usual, they can only think about holding a meeting to talk about it. They might even form a panel to think about having the meeting, too! Nothing can actually be done about it, though, aside from speaking and talking about how bad it is. Oh no, no, no. Mustn't upset the applecart and change any laws, especially if they will hold a major business accountable.

So, a group of old men are going to sit around and discuss how they can throw money at this problem. The answer is sever jail terms and a national child sex offender’s list. If you are caught using the internet to groom minors you face a seven year jail term in Australia. If you are convicted of child sex offenses it also carries a minimum seven years in prison. Start licking these creeps up for many years and you’ll quickly see the incidents reduced.

This issue revealed self-censorship among Japanese major media for self-protection and relation with power person such as government or entertainment.

But, they still continue self-censorship, didn't even coverage about very dangerous bills until after it made by steamrolling at the Diet.

They need to do the same as the UK did when after Jimmy Saville died there was a huge police investigation into historical abuse resulting in lots of arrests and prosecutions not just have another pointless ministerial meeting.

From a country where it’s still acceptable to watch porn on the trains. The Jonny’s scandal is additional profiteering from the boys. Everyone knew and still knows it’s a play for pay system. You can’t tell me these squeaky girl bands released music based on their vocal talents. Lol

Johnny's boys were Johnnies toys! The president apologizes, but not to the victims which basically means nothing. In her eyes they are liars, just to keep the agency afloat carefully trying not to tarnishing the name and distance it from the victims.

Johnny's president, Julie Keiko Fujishima, publically apologized for the scandals involving Kitagawa, but stopped short of accepting the claims by people formerly represented by the agency.

Ogura, however, has said that careful consideration must be given if the law is to be amended as the current legislation only encompasses abusive acts by parents or guardians.

say what?

as you carefully consider more children, young people and women are being groomed and abused.

can’t help but wonder if he might have something in the cupboard he’d like to remain “private”

The lack of an independent communications ombudsman.

With the full legislative means/ability to separate Johnny & Associates Inc, the depictable pedophile predator Kitagawa from acting/managing/ gent at the same time mentor, infesting the entertainment broadcast industry to to bottom a corrupt business model

Has in effect created a means to continue to impose his will even in death.

If ever that was a swamp to drain, it will need a full judge led independent inquiry.

With the full legislative mandate to bring about change.

Nothing less.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida pledged Monday to hold a ministerial meeting to address the issue of child sexual abuse…

Are not child sexual abusers a sexual minority? And is there not a current campaign in Japan to grant equal rights to sexual minorities, e.g. same-sex marriage, according to articles here in Japan Today? Then on what basis is there a need to hold a ministerial meeting? What happened to equal rights for ALL sexual minorities?

If only certain sexual minorities can receive equal rights, who is to say which minorities and what rights? Who is the government to impose its own dogmatic definition of what is consent or sexual abuse upon others who do not conform to their narrow views of morality? In other words, as sexual political activists often use as a challenge against marriage being between a man and a woman, "What harm is there in letting people do what they want with their own lives?"
