The fisherman is a hero and proof the police and security detail here have no idea what they are doing. Thank goodness for the brave fishermen who besides risking life and limb to feed their village, selflessly came to the rescue of our revered Prime Minister to save his life. I seriously doubt the NPA's report will do any good, though.

Gee - do ya think so?

How much did they fleece us for that bit of Sherlockian deduction?

Oh so it was a flaw in security that allowed a nut to throw a bomb at the Prime Minister. Wow glad they did that amazing research.....

“We take it seriously that this case occurred less than a year after (Abe’s assassination), and that’s why we have compiled this report,” National Police Agency chief Yasuhiro Tsuyuki said Thursday.

You bunch of cretins have clearly NOT taken anything seriously, or this incident would not have happened. Caught like a deer in the headlights just like last time. Amateurs of the highest order.

they took only 6 weeks to figure that out? wonderful!!!!! (⌒▽⌒)

Yup, I’ll go along with that

And kudos to WORKMan Inc , lol

I’m kind of curious what security lapses allowed anyone, much less the principle to be anywhere near the device when it exploded.

Thankfully no one was hurt but that was due to luck more than operational competence.

Police say flaws in basic security allowed attacker to throw pipe bomb at Kishida

Brilliant.

It took them that long to realize it?

Everyone around the world saw the videos and figured that out, no more than 3 seconds after watching them.

Some of the people attending the campaign rally, who were mostly from the fishing community, said they were surprised by the loose security arrangements, such as the lack of bag checks and the close distance between them and the prime minister.

Well, that's what happens when incompetence and arrogance combine to produce the LDP and their crack security staff, which may or may not include the inept Japanese Police Department.

“We take it seriously

NO you don't.

In fact, nothing in Japan has been taken seriously, since 1989 apparently.

no effective measures were in place to detect and prevent anyone possessing weapons from approaching the prime minister.

Also, no plan of defense. All the security was busy lining up in a tight line, looking AWAY from the crowd.

While members of the crowd were taking photos of Kishida with their smartphones, security staff failed to spot the attacker lighting his first pipe bomb and throwing it at Kishida, the report said.

Let me edit that.........While members of the crowd were taking photos of Kishida with their smartphones, the security staff failed.

The attack was not noticed until a fisherman saw him attempt to throw a second bomb and stopped him from behind, it said.

In other words, the fisherman did the job of what 50 police and security staff couldn't do.

Give him all of their salaries from that day, and give them, nothing.

Congratulations and respect to the fishing community and especially the hero who took the perp down!

As for the government and their cronies........pffft. give me a break.

Next bright idea is probably for all meeting attendees to show their My Number card to be able to get in!

Well they don’t even provide the equivalent of secret service detail for life after office so not a big surprise that they don’t provide the current leader with adequate security detail. I don’t know, maybe Japanese politicians don’t get as much death threats as their American and European counterparts for them to bother taking precautionary security measures?

The report said no effective measures were in place to detect and prevent anyone possessing weapons from approaching the prime minister.

Difficult the be more clear about the complete incompetence demonstrated.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Ah, yes, but to prove how serious they are, they've compiled this report! Very thorough.

Shogun 36

They did not discover that- too complicated, someone obviously sent them an email.

It's form over function in Japan. My guess is the security officers spend way more time practicing how to stand around looking the part with their game faces on and their little earpieces in than they spend actually doing drills.

I recall a visit to a large park in Japan one Saturday for a soccer scrimmage, where the local fire departments were drilling. We observed them spending hours practicing marching in formation. They hardly drilled with their equipment at all. Why a firefighting squad would even need to march like soldiers is beyond me, was beyond us.

The job was to prevent the attack, not to allow it and depend on the incompetence of the criminal and the actions of bystanders to keep the primer minister alive.

And in other news...

Leaked private photo of Kishida at residence fans security concerns

Kishida defended the leaked private photograph, telling reporters, "I dined with my family members and relatives" at the private space of the official residence, which is just a few minutes away from the prime minister's office.

You can't make this stuff up.

Special police?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

There was no attack, so mission accomplished.

Thera was an attack, as reported even in this article. Being in denial do not make the attack disappear.

No one was shot at or hurt. Someone made a loud noise., Happens everyday in Japan.

This makes absolutely no sense, "making a loud noise" is not something that makes headlines in the Front page of newspapers. Being obviously obtuse to refuse to accept what the article is reporting do not negate it.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

It doesn't make sense if you don't comprehend the overall picture--we get it.

Seein how you were unable to explain how the reported attack supposedly is something routinely happening every day in Japan that would mean you would be the one trying to misrepresent a serious event as if it was not important, the opposite of what the article clearly says.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Japan's National Police Agency said in a report that flaws in basic security such as an absence of metal detectors and bag checks allowed an attacker to enter a campaign crowd unnoticed and throw a pipe bomb at Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in April.

Oh, you mean like the same flaws in basic security when it came to the late Abe Shinzo? Because it sounds very familiar.
