Messaging through SNS or tagging someone account you care is cheaper and faster than that.

I send multiple letters abroad each year and this is definitely a retrograde step

So, sending a Get Well card to Grandma requires the possession of a prior-approved Internet account with the Government?

The Japan Post website simply says all countries/destinations.

But it seems if it is just a letter without any "dutiable articles", then handwritten is OK.

You can still send letters internationally.

It's really difficult to find airmail envelopes in Japan, especially A4 size.
