I suspect that a brown envelope was passed across the table...

But the two sides reached a settlement in late July, with the company saying that the customer has admitted his "responsibility" and that they reached a "reasonable" agreement. It did not disclose details.

Reasonable?

sought approximately 67 million yen ($470,000)

Because given that amount, which is half million dollar not so many Japanese can really afford that! Perhaps lesser than that.

No doubt this ‘sushi terrorist’ is going to spend the next decade or two paying off the settlement. Hopefully his parents didn’t from the money for him.

Quite likely. But, it's doubtful it was for the 67 million yen ($470,000) in damages they originally sued him for.

But, the parents probably had to borrow some money, maybe refinance their home, to pay it, if they did.

Glad they dropped it.

I’m a regular customer of these sushi places so I was angered by the behavior of this idiot. But all this talk of “sushi terrorism” and ruining this kid’s life just for licking a soy bottle was blowing things way out of proportion.

By now I suspect that this teen has probably already given up his smart phone and decided to live off grid for few years.

Over rated to call it sushi terrorism when it’s just licking a soy sauce bottle. Gross yes it absolutely is. You want to see real terrorist go to Iran or Syria where ISIS camps. But the boy is lucky the charges were dropped. What if he was in his 20s would they had dropped the charges

This was a good opportunity for me to teach my kids about how you can be fooling around doing something stupid as a kid, that can ruin your life, especially if its on video.

I thought it was disgusting ....and then I remembered watching the nagashi somen event at the elementary school when my kids were younger.

Maybe the restaurant chain or just the restaurant itself will ban this puke brat for life. In any case, I hope he learned his lesson. What he did was gross, uncalled for and unfunny.

If he videotaped himself in the act he could become a millionaire on YouTube. Where do you think he will strike next for his next episode?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

There is no way that they would get 67 million from him, but something has been done for them to drop the suit. Maybe his parent compromised to keep him out of restaurant for the rest of his life!

It would appear that his actions are still seen as criminal if he has been referred to prosecutors and sent to a family court handling criminal cases involving juveniles, there could yet be further consequences for this idiot.

Good decision. Demanding 67 million yen from a teenager was extremely heavy handed. Although i suspect they never intended to follow through with the demand but rather used it to send a warning message to other would be 'sushi terrorists'.

Nevertheless I hope the boy has learned his lesson.

Here is the video:

The kid was allowed by his parents to dye his hair blonde - that speaks TONS about what kind of education those parents believe into. I think they got what they've deserved with their brat. I hope they have to pay for this at least a few zen-man en, as a result.

They'll have settled out of court for some nominal sum, probably much less than most people would imagine. A corporation fining a kid a big sum is not good publicity and doesn't solve the issue of customers worrying about hygiene at the restaurants

This was a good opportunity for me to teach my kids about how you can be fooling around doing something stupid as a kid, that can ruin your life, especially if its on video.

That's a good way to take something positive from this.

I also think the overreaction to this, it's disgusting, but it is still just a kid mucking about, is partially driven by the attention grabbing "sushi terrorism" moniker it was given. While this may be superficially clever and ha ha ha funny, its brought far more attention to this incident than it actually deserved. Larking about is not terrorism.

let me bet that guy will never eat sushi in his life again...

Make him wash dishes.

In a society where transit cards can no longer be issued due to a lack of chips, absurdly thick regulations dominate every aspect of life, and children are still too indoctrinated to take off masks over a thing that was literally never a risk to them, I just get the impression this country has bigger issues than supposed "sushi terrorism".

I don’t think sushi shop were going to get that much out of a child and the parents may have paid something, or they may not. But if my kids did something stupid like that, I wouldn’t pay the company a single yen. I’d give him a clip around the head, make him apologize, and if they allowed him to wash the dishes I’d get him to do that. That would be the end of the matter with maybe a few things at home. Grounding or canceling his phone. Thankfully stupidity , and embarrassment can teach people a lesson.

Thankfully we are all allowed to be stupid boys at times in our lives.

Send him to the yakz..

50 lashes and throw him into the stocks....realistically I hope he gets a good kick up the arse by the father and made to clean that resturant for 6 months...stupid little boy!!

Parents would have a hard time with such a stupid son, and would be very ashamed. I should have taught you some common sense before doing this.

And given that stock prices have fallen considerably, it is only natural that social sanctions must be imposed. It's not an acceptable problem in washing dishes.

The store's response is extremely natural, and criminals who break social rules and commit stupid acts should bear the crime for the rest of their lives.
