Unit 371

It terrifies me to read that name.

Renowned Japanese mystery writer Seiichi Morimura, whose nonfiction trilogy “The Devil’s Gluttony” exposed human medical experiments conducted by a secret Japanese army unit during World War II, died Monday. He was 90.

I bet he won't be getting the full hagiography and public memorial in the media.

@Dagon. I would agree with you. He won't be celebrated in death in Japan for telling truths the Japanese do not want to acknowledge. Too bad, hiding their head in the sand is a negative Japanese don't comprehend.

It's a story every adult in Japan should know about, but few do.

Morimura-san was a man who loved his country and the truth even more. RIP.

His book opened my eyes to Unit 731 and the nefarious role played by the "freedom lovin'" & "rule by law" US government in ensuring that all those VIP Japanese responsible for the unspeakably heinous atrocities perpetrated on 10,000+ victims never had to face any kind of justice.

That's why America hegemony is so hateful, especially Douglas MacArthur all his faults. His coverup and pardoned those warcriminals let them get free instead of justice. That's why he got his "Karma" defeated and removal of commanding in disgrace during Korean war.

Douglas MacArthur all his faults

Politics. MacArthur had to retain the ruling elite, so that U.S. could control Japan as a puppet state, rather than dissolving Japan altogether. God thing: Japan continued to exist. Bad thing: Japan became a puppet state.

Auschwitz, Unit 731, My Lai, the list goes on. These are all important parts of human history that young people should learn about when they are old enough.

Rest in Peace Morimura san. People on JT have a lot to say about Japanese not facing up to wartime atrocities but when a great man like this dies there are hardly any comments. Because they have never heard of him. Because for the most part they are ignorant about Japan even after living here many years. Here is a link to the theme song for 'Ningen no Shomei' sung by Joe Yamanaka. It is a good song and a reminder that Japan made lots of great music before AK48 came along. Give it a listen!

Never forget. This and other Japanese imperialist crimes against humanity will never be forgotten.

Good to see that honest Japanese people do exist.

Devil's Gluttony is unfortunately hard to call non-fiction in many respects.

The credibility of the Devil's Gluttony is questioned due to the lack of coverage.

It turns out that most of the photos provided by the alleged ex-members are fake. (If it's related to Unit 731, it was during the plague epidemic in Manchuria in 1910.)

As a result, all Kobunsha editions became a commotion.

Also, the content of the testimony was anonymous.

Human experiments were medically absurd.

For example, they used a syringe to extract bodily fluids and mummified them. →With a syringe, it is possible to die from blood loss, but it is impossible to completely drain the bodily fluids until the body becomes a mummy (although the testimony may be exaggerated).

I would also like you to tell me what the meaning of the experiment is by cutting off the limbs.

And of course many remains were found on the premises?

I'm not going to say that there was no Unit 731 or that they didn't conduct human experiments, but is there any better evidence?

Is there any evidence from the American side?

If anyone knows, please let me know.

The problem with independent writers is that they are not historians. As such their works can deviate from the facts. Unit 731 was real and documented. But an independent writer can embellish the stories to keep the syndication going. Seiji Yoshida whose articles played a very significant role in the Comfort Women issue is an example. The Asahi Shimbun ended up apologizing for publishing his stories.

While Unit 731's activities are documented, they are kept secret by the United States which received the data and protected the participants. Most of the horrific stories come from interrogations by the Soviets who captured many 731 members, and in some cases may have been coerced. The Soviet's treatment of Japanese POWs was brutal.
