On a day we remember a mourn the tragic bombing of Nagasaki, we have a seemingly pro nuclear article here. Whether for military use or consumer power, anything nuclear remains a threat the safety of people of all nations.

As a race, we seem to have learned nothing from history.

While not necessarily newsworthy enough for a front page story, as this is quite common in Japan as it is in the West, this article will hopefully give other women the courage to say no and even report workplace harassment. Good for her for standing up!

The child could easily leak state secrets. Seriously though, it should by no means be unusual to bring a child of that age into the workplace. My son came with me to work (in the US) from age 3 weeks to 3 years old. It's time for Japan to begin seeing this as a normal workplace phenomena.

Once upon a time in a land faraway I owned a bookstore, I refused to sell titles such as Mein Kampf, the collected works of Stalin, Lenin and Mao.

Free speech you will obviously argue about. Do you consider recent events such as Tump's inciting a riot free speech? Free speech is BS.

The availability of books, websites and social media accounts simply continues hate.

Time to end this.

Amazon and other e-retailers think it through. Better stop buying from them despite their prices.

Posted in: Ex-student awarded damages over high school rule that banned dating See in context

Dating is a normal development toward adulthood. No dating policy? Seems ludicrous in a country of lowering birthrates.

Dating at that age would produce mature adults who will make good decisions and may later marry and find value as part of a family.

Western toilets, with often with a bit in bidet, are more common these days, however western toilets limits the spread of the legs and people often have to use forcefully defecate, that can lead to health problems as early as middle age.

Kids are being dehydrated seems due to any toilet type is ludicrous. Drink more Mugi-cha and less sodas containing caffeine. It's not the toilet type it's the liquids.

"Politically Charged"? As far as I could tell when watching there were no nukes launched, no hostages taken, nor threats exchanged. lol.

It was simply a good football match. The players were there to play and I doubt they were concerned about a silly social media post. While Tehran tried to make it the brief posting of a modified flag of Iran political, FIFA did not.

Posted in: Japan births at new low as population shrinks and ages See in context

The question is why? I am not a sociologist but they are obvious issues: couples who choose not to have a child until their personal economics improve. Next is less marriages due to the same concerns as well as women choosing careers over marriage or having children. Next is the number of unwanted pregnancies that result in abortions one the one hand, and flushing newborns into the toilet...

Additionally, there is a high number of marriages that end quickly due to DV.

Where I live, despite the minimum wage being less that 800 yen, the number of new born children is high compared to other prefectures.

Government policies, corporations, and even small businesses have not provided a way to have children and not take a hit in family income.

In fact many small business prefer to hire an unwed woman or Obachan to avoid employee loss due to childbirth.

National, prefectural and local incentives are needed to, hmmm, stimulate childbirth.

Japan beat Germany. You should be proud. So they lost against Costa Rica. A rebound loss is not atypical.

Instead of inane criticisms look forward to the match against Spain. In the end it's just a game. Enjoy it and hope for the best.

There will be other competitions where you can gripe about your nationalism in the future.

If someone is in the hospital at that age there are likely multiple reasons why including dementia, etc.

From 1st hand knowledge patients with diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer's have tendencies toward such behavior.

Care givers should be on the alert and change to private rooms whenever JP insurance allows. Hospitals are a dumping ground for families that can not afford care houses...

oops: it's been around for decades nationallyinterand should be "for decades internationally and is...

While I doubt they will reform like Aum Shinrikyo they will still have an international presence.

An article in JT helps but national and local Japanese newspapers need to inform the public as well.

Posted in: What is the Unification Church, and how will Japan's probe affect it? See in context

Commonly know as the Moonies ( reference to the founders name: Sun Myung Moon), it's been around for decades nationallyinterand is one of many cults that attract members with false promises and ask for and receive donations large and small from members.

I doubt there is anything in the Unification Church's By-Laws that will indicate they are "selling" their promises. A look at their actual practices may show otherwise.

If Japan could could actually remove it's status as a religious organization that will be an international first.

Whatever your opinion of Abe is or was it took that murder to bring this to light although it has been a long standing issue of taking advantage of vulnerable people.

While that’s a legally typical defense premeditated murder is not an indication of mental illness. In fact it’s simply as is: premeditated.

The so called Unification Church has been known as the Moonies since as early as the 1970's. Always considered a cult in the west, are they any more ominous than Soka Gakkai, which is a cult of it's own?

While not prominent in Japan the number of Reborn Christians worldwide is astounding.

They are all seeking donations for false promises. The government should indeed pass bills to assist those who have been financially prayed upon.

Well, there’s lots of comments about Yuya Nozaki being a sick minded, and while that’s true what comes to mind are the options for each before they become dangerous to themselves or another.

What about the girl? Nothing in this article indicates an investigation into why she would make such a tragic decision.

It would be beneficial for the media to preempt these tragedies with information about seeking help prior to rather than after the fact.
