The government doesn't seem to care about issues until a celebrity is involved, so hopefully this will get the ball rolling.

Circumstances in each country are different.

This is the old "Japan is a completely unique country so other countries can't tell us what to do" excuse. But the circumstances are not really different. There are gay couples who want to get married. They fought for that in other countries and in Japan they are still fighting for it.

Posted in: Kishida says ban on same-sex marriage not discrimination See in context

Saying that Japan does not currently allow same-sex marriage is stating a fact. Claiming that this is not discriminatory is Orwellian double-speak. If prohibiting some people from doing something while allowing others to do it is not discrimination, then what is?

Also, good job saying this right before Japan hosts the G7.

Allowing some people to do something while not allowing other people to do that same thing is the definition of discrimination.

Posted in: Japanese Justice Minister Hanashi dismissed over execution comments See in context

This is a welcome change from yesterday, when Kishida said he had no intention of letting him resign. What this arrogant jerk doesn't understand is that when he signs a execution order, he is doing it in the name of the Japanese public, a portion of which is against the death penalty, and a larger portion thinks it is nothing to joke about.

It does cause harm to the child. Imagine how a kid would be treated if other kids found out they had "two mommy's".

This was the logic behind banning people of different racial backgrounds from marrying in 1950s America.

Posted in: Japan's total COVID cases top 20 mil since start of pandemic See in context

Don't forget that if people pay for their own test and then test positive, it does not go into the official count. That ups the number. The 20 million are only the people approved for testing by the hokenjo who tested positive and early in the pandemic, many people who wanted to be tested were refused because they did not have a high enough fever. The real figure is probably much higher.

He was disdainful of the constitution and democracy and displayed a poor understanding of the financial circumstances of the average resident of Japan. Yet we have to pay for his funeral. His family or his political party have more than enough money to pay for this.
