Man arrested over death of woman in Saitama Prefecture hotel in May

Police in Soka, Saitama Prefecture, have arrested a 39-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of killing a 44-year-old woman in a business hotel in May.

According to police, Isamu Tomioka is accused of strangling Yumiko Otsuka, who lived in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, in the hotel room sometime between 2:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. on May 15, Kyodo News reported. The two were acquaintances, police said.

A hotel employee found Otsuka’s body the next day after she failed to check out of the hotel. Her body was on the floor, her legs and arms were bound together with a cord and a towel was wrapped around her head. An autopsy revealed she had been strangled, police said

Police said Tomioka, who was seen leaving the hotel early on May 16 on security camera footage, has denied the allegation and quoted him as saying he met Otsuka in her hotel room but she was alive when he left.

This is precisely why there should be security cameras in every room. Murder is no joke. The lady clearly suffered immensely and her family is surely devastated. While he claims innocence, the suspect is currently suffering behind bars, and probably with no windows. If there had been security cameras in the room, the police could prove he did it.

@Marc Lowe So you have no problems with a camera installed in a hotel room where you are going to be naked, having sex etc. Are you joking?

In public spaces, such as corridors, stairwells, elevators, etc, cameras would be welcome.

Inside the private guestrooms? That's simply a horrible idea, and would be extremely offensive.

Seriously? No privacy at all any more? That is the world you want to live in?

You're right! Murder isn't a joke! But surely your point is! You do know that would be illigal! That's li8ke me saying "I'm going to install cameras in ALL the bathrooms to make sure nobody isn't stealing my toilet paper!"

This comment is getting a whole lot of negative responses.

And it deserves every one of them, and more.
