A 24-year-old man has denied sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s who had fallen asleep on a sidewalk in Tokyo.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 4 a.m. on May 3 in Ota Ward, Kyodo News reported. Police said that Hiroto Kanehara, a company employee, followed the woman, who was intoxicated, from a pub. When she lay down on the sidewalk to sleep, he allegedly groped her.

When the woman woke up, she recalls Kanehara telling her he didn’t mean any harm, and ran away, police said.

Kanehara was later identified after an analysis of street surveillance camera footage. He was quoted by police as saying he can’t remember what he did that night.

If he denies he groped, he is saying that he remembers very clearly that moment. Excuse my dim investigator skills.

Not another one! Yucky wucky! What is wrong with these people? A man should assist a damsel in distress not indulge in vile molestation. I cannot fathom what goes on in these bounders minds.

2 drunkards together do not end well.

Some people should never drink.

It's her drunken word against his drunken word. He will likely be held indefinitely until they can force a confession from him. If they can't force a confession he will go free. It's a shame the cameras didn't get footage of what he did to her.

The guy is probably innocent. How do you wake up a drunk person to ask if they’re ok? Shake their shoulder. The woman was drunk. Just because the guy was in the pub doesn’t mean he was wasted. Pretty easy to misconstrue. The guy just incriminated himself by running.

how would that work if someone accused you of something , because obviously being accused means “someone told you” so denying something means that he remembers doing something. Right! Is this inspector Clouseau? I would also hate to be a man who walked by….. and not offer help to someone, in case I am accused of something erroneously. Or maybe someone is a victim, I offer help and then they accuse me of a crime. Sometimes I understand why men just walk on by. If this isnALL on camera it’s an open and shut case.

If she was so smashed out of her face, Why didn’t her friends take care of her.

How can he deny groping her when he said he couldn't remember what he did that night.

"had fallen asleep on a sidewalk in Tokyo," never a good idea..

This case demonstrates that women can't walk alone at night for fear of sexual assault.

No.

This case demonstrates that a woman, so intoxicated that she had to sleep on a sidewalk, was allegedly assaulted.

Oh, I'm sorry. Do you have evidence that she is lying about being sexually assaulted?

I'm sure you must, because surely you would not conjecture that she is lying without having evidence, right?

I mean, they have evidence the man assaulted her since there is her first-person witness account as well as cameras in the vicinity that picked up the man at the scene.

What's your evidence that she is lying?
