Mass stranding of marine mammals everywhere. Just last week, we read about a report that 55 pilot whales beached in New Zeeland, the cause of which the article attributed to the solidarity nature of whales whereby they followed a panicky pregnant whale that went stranding.

Now, this article says the cause of the mass death of sea lions and dolphins, which occurs frequently in the area is domoic acid.

So, there seem a lot of theories to explain the frequent mass stranding or death of marine mammals on the table.

When I read a headline about animal poisoning, my first assumption is that a human was being purposefully mean.

Took reading to the 4th paragraph to discover this was a natural thing, not man-made. I suppose, technically, it is poisoning, like eating bad clams can be food poisoning.

this was a natural thing, not man-made

According to the article it’s caused by agricultural runoff - man made - and warming oceans due to climate change - man made.

We really need to up our game. There is no Planet B.

And if there were, it probably wouldn’t take us long to ruin it.

This is true. However, it doesn’t mean the smarter of us shouldn’t try to mitigate our impact.

Would you be satisfied with “it’s a dog eat dog world” after being a victim of crime?
