Not really. I often pay with my phone but I'm the one waiting for the cashier to set it all up - they usually have to press a million buttons and re-enter the price on a separate device before I can finally pay. And some stores only support PayPay which is slow to begin with.

Every store and restaurant where I use PayPay, it takes just one extra button. After scanning the bar code or QR code, the confirmation screen comes up in no more than three seconds.

So many people complaining about Japanese men not being independent, as if it's not the same in other countries. I personally have acquaintances in the US whose college-aged children still live with them. One friend in South Korea has a son who is unemployed and spends all day playing LoL and Starcraft, hoping to get a career in e-sports.

It is up to Japan and Japan alone to atone for it's barbaric WWII past and do so in a way that is viewed as unequivocally sincere. 

Japan has atoned for its war crimes. It is on South Korea to stop its anti-Japan antics and stop indoctrinating its children. The fact that South Korea has passed on its grudge for more than seventy years and view North Korea more favorably while countries like Taiwan have moved on and have a good relationship with Japan is abnormal.

Unlike Koreans, Japanese people are prideful and mostly xenophobic. 

Tell that to the English teachers in South Korea who were deported due to visa technicalities. Or the Yemeni refugees whom thousands of Koreans petitioned to deport.

It's nice to have Japan finally be part of the space race. Good for them!

Something that happened over eighty years ago is not a reason to teach your children to hate. Other countries like Taiwan have moved on from WWII. It's only South Korea and to a lesser extent China that still have a grudge against Japan.

The western prison system is about rehabilitation while in Japan it's about punishment.

Western prison? In some European countries, sure. Definitely not in the U.S.

In other countries, minority ethnic groups and immigrants are targeted by would-be politicians, to gather the votes of the formerly adventageous groups tossed to the margins by neoliberal capitalism. In a more monocultural country such as Korea, women become the target.

Not just women, but also the LGBT. When Moon was running for president, he explicitly said on TV that he opposed homosexuality in response to another candidate who said that gay soldiers were weakening the country’s military. Not to mention Korea's "anti-pride parades".

In Japan, since there are so few foreign others within and women have never been given consideration, people in other nations are blamed.

South Korea has a similar number of foreigners, but that didn't stop the Park administration from raiding hagwons and deporting English teachers en masse, or over 700,000 people from signing a petition to deport Yemeni refugees in Jeju.

So much fearmongering here when Olympic athletes ate produce from Fukushima.

So many people complaining about Japanese people based on anecdotal evidence. I think the Japanese have gotten nicer over the past ten years, while in the US (especially LA), the youth have gotten more loud and obnoxious. But hey, that’s just from my experience.

Yeah, I am enjoying a very high standard of living in my 58 sqm apartment for a family of 5 in Adachi ward

one bath , one vanity and a living room that is a whooping 7 tatami and cannot take a sofa for 4 people with bedrooms that measure a whooping 4.5 tatami that is easily filled up by a semi double bed. I want to buy a dish washer but no place to place it because the 3 place gas cooker is so large it has taken much of the space. I can write a book about my high QOL.

That sounds a lot better than the three apartments I stayed in while I was in Seoul and Yongin. No bathtubs, not even a shower stall, just tiny square bathrooms with a shower nozzle. My toilet seat was drenched every time I showered.

It seems everyone here knows nothing about maid cafes and is just making their own biased opinions. Maid cafes are like girl bars; regular customers go there just to talk to girls, except here, the target customers are of the otaku variety, and touching is strictly prohibited. The moe/kawaii schtick is targeted toward tourists who visit once, take a polaroid, and probably never come back.

In Japan, people should know, at least, that Halloween is also known as All Saints’ Eve, the day before All Saints’ Day, and two days before All Souls’ Day.

A lot of people in the U.S. don’t know that either.

If a store wants to make a gender neutral toy aisle, good for them. But trying to enforce them by law is just intrusive.
